The former general counsel of game studio Gearbox (Borderlands, Aliens: Colonial Marines) and CEO Randy Pitchford are suing one another in a messy legal battle that sees both men accused of violating their legal duties to the company. The suit against Pitchford is full of sensational allegations, including the accusation that the Gearbox CEO received a secret $12 million bonus from publisher Take-Two Interactive as an advance against Borderlands profits.

Wade Callender, who served as Gearbox’s lawyer from 2010 until 2018, filed a suit on December 21, 2018 accusing Pitchford of violating various contracts involving both Gearbox and a separate real estate company that they both owned, as well as Callender’s own employment contract.

Callender’s most lurid allegation against Pitchford is an accusation surrounding an event that he says occurred in 2014. Callender says that Pitchford left a USB drive in a Dallas, Texas restaurant containing sensitive corporate documents for Gearbox and its partners including 2K Games, Sega, Sony, Microsoft, and others. Says the lawsuit: “Upon information and belief, Randy Pitchford’s USB drive also contained Randy Pitchford’s personal collection of ‘underage’ pornography.”

Callender also accuses Pitchford of holding parties in which “adult men have reportedly exposed themselves to minors, to the amusement of Randy Pitchford.”

As much as I dislike Gearbox for Aliens and Duke Nukem Forever, I hope these allegations are total BS.

gearbox is a roller coaster based on releases, they should definitely investigate in case someone could have planted this, also this lawyer knew for awhile.

randy is pretty weird but he's innocent until proven guilty. Hope it's not true I have been anticipating borderlands 3 however there were many others working on that game even though he was just the director.

How did this unfold? Were both eating there? How did Callender find this USB, conveniently left out on a table for him or anyone else to pick up? On the floor? Who found this pendrive, at that specific Restaurant in Dallas? Callender?

How can someone leave a pendrive at the restaurant?

I can't think of a stranger two weeks of "industry news" to start of a calendar year. It has gotten to the point where junk sites like TMZ wouldn't be out of place covering gaming news. It wouldn't be the first time, Dyack's attempted comeback with Shadow of the Eternals got derailed by a prominent figure in the company getting nailed for this sort of shit. The accusation is being made by a lawyer, so I have a hard time imagining he is just flinging out accusations with "no basis in reality". Anyone educated enough to understand the ramifications of that sort of claim (even without a conviction) just doing it to be vindictive should be disbarred.

Gearbox alleged that Callender borrowed money from Gearbox for a home loan and tuition that he did not pay back in full, and that Callender “abused the privilege of credit card access by charging unapproved, wholly personal expenses, including family vacations, gun club memberships and firearms accessories, and trying to get six-pack abs.”

Oh I agree, but I'm just saying I wouldn't be at all surprised. The guy is a complete douche. Anyway, doesn't sound like the kid stuff is any more than hearsay, so true or not, the issues will come down to the 12 million.

Also, remember the personal assistant supposedly making off with 2 million last year? If nothing else, some strange shit is going on at the Pitchfords.

Not a fan of the guy after the way he presented himself about the Colonial Marines debacle. Those allegations are pretty serious and I hope there's some evidence to back them up. Saying that, the guy is an absolute cunt.

I don't like the guy but it sounds fake.

I'd argue that lawyers, being more familiar with law, would be more likely to throw shit against people knowing what could have true repercussions and what not. Given that they are partners for a business, maybe they got into a fight and now this guy is taking revenge.

If anything, the money part could be true but the child porn I doubt it. Whenever someone wants to damage someone else's reputation, child pornography is the favourite option.

The fact that some of you can't put your negative opinions on him, caused by some of his business decisions, to the side and thus immediately jump to the conclusion that he must be a pedophile, is pretty damn sad and pathetic to be honest.

If he's guilty then he's absolute scum, but until there's tangible proof, this is nothing more than just hearsay and should be treated as such. Accusations like this can destroy an individual's life even if it's proven to be completely false after the fact.

Allegations allegations. This too is a byproduct of #metoo and we need to get rid of that. We have the court, with proper evidence, there will be a conviction.

As much as i despise Randy as a businessman (and not personally), i wouldn't wish this kind of allegation on him, or on anyone, really.

IDK. I'm not a lawyer. But this is a civil case, and the "accusation" (part 38) seems more about "painting a picture."

So, no, I don't think he'll necessarily need to "back this up." I think exactly what is happening is what he wanted to happen.
