Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford accused of pedophilia and taking illicit bonus.

If you want to be really technical about it, ephebophilia is attraction to adolescents and pedophilia is attraction to children. I'm guessing what's really in view here is the former; people just colloquially roll both into the latter term.

(Or, what Lucomo said)
Any sex act with someone under 18 can be labeled as a sex offender

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
So let's see, this is the story this far.
  • Randy went to eat at Medieval Times and left his thumb drive.
  • A MT employee recovered the drive, discovered who it belonged to by its content and contacted Gearbox.
  • In exchange for swag, MT employee agreed to return the drive.
  • Upon receipt of drive, GB employees made copies for verification purposes in order to review what may have been leaked. At this time Randy is not in the office. Upon finding out, Randy recovers the drive and orders all copies to be erased.
  • Randy gets sued by ex co-worker lawyer in which the suit claims embezzlement of 12 million dollars, watching "underage" porn, and throwing "Peacock Parties" with his wife, where men expose themselves to minors.
  • The next day, Randy goes on a magic podcast with Piff the Magic Dragon and admits to having a "barely legal" cam girl video, showing masturbation and excessive female ejaculation, saved on aforementioned thumb drive. Randy claims this was to study the "magic trick".
You literally can't make this shit up. Child pornography or no, this is one hell of a story.

I’m talking federal law

Pretty sure that’s incorrect for sex acts. The age would be a matter of state law only. (Unless preteens are involved. I really hope that’s not the case.)

I’m guessing any physical acts took place in Texas, where the age of consent is 17.

The question of child porn would become a federal issue and yes, that’s where the age 18 question comes into play I believe.

The question of porn could possibly reach beyond state bounds maybe.
Idk for SURE but chances are VERY high if you commit a sex act when you are over the age of 18 with someone under 18 you will be labeled as a sex offender at the least

I certainly don’t recommend taking one’s chances on it.

In other news: [edit: the Ars story was already posted. So the question will just be how old the camgirl was.]

After the Salem witch trial and the devastation that happened with this site with EviLore EviLore , I'm fairly upset at seeing some of these responses.

Do some of you have an extremely short term memory or something?

Or is it that it's just that you don't like Pitchford and so it makes it ok?

These are serious allegations and I hope there will be due diligence.

If it's true, then he's a scumbag and I hope he rots in prison, but until then I will refrain from the pitchforks and torches that it appears some of you are all too eager to brandish.

Good god.

Wow what a sick fuck. Hopefully he gets caught and pays for his crimes.

Gearbox to announce that Siren from Borderlands is gay to help offset the bad public relations.

Never Forget™

Or the time when he tried to advertise Battleborn with a porno reddit he conveniently found.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/battleborn/battleborn-porn-subreddit-overwatch-randy-pitchford

Or the time he told an interviewer that Gabe Newell wanted to name his company Gearbox, but lost that choice to Pitchford in a poker game, so he instead had to "settle" for Valve.

"After about four or five hours of play, that opportunity came and the showdown finally happened. The funny thing is that the hand that decided it wasn't that significant of a hand as far as Hold 'em Poker goes. It wasn't one of those Royal-Flush-Over-Quad-Aces kinds of hands that you see in the movies. I still remember the hand, though I'm sure Gabe wouldn't remember. The hand was top pair over middle pair. I was playing AK suited and he was playing K9 off suit (a hand known as "Saw Mill"). Obviously I tried to build a bit a of a pot pre-flop and got a lot of callers before it was Gabe's turn to act and astonishingly he came over the top with a massive over-bet. His action isolated us down to just the two of us in the hand, which gave me a HUGE advantage in this situation (I mentioned that Gabe hadn't played a lot of poker, right?). Anyway, the board came K-8-2 mixed suits and we were both pot committed so, of course, the money went in.

The next two cards were blanks, which is what the expected results were when I got the money in. I had him covered, so that knocked him out of the game! I did it! By knocking him out, I won a lot of chips, but more importantly I won the wager and with it I won the name 'Gearbox.' We got to keep the whole, big awesome Gearbox and Gabe had to settle for just being the Valve.

ALL of this was a lie, btw. Or admitted after the fact to be a "tall tale" as Pitchford put it, once Gabe clarified none of that was remotely true.

Pitchford has done a great job of making me go from really liking him to really thinking negatively of him in just a few short years. I was a big fan of Gearbox for a long time, but Aliens was the final straw and I've just never really seen them/him as anything more than just....scummy.

Cool. I don't like PItchford, but I don't see any evidence yet. Notify me when they have actual evidence and this isn't all "he said/she said" shitflinging. Would love to see if any of these claims actually have merit to them.

This should be added to the OP, people keep missing it.

The underage part is disturbing enough but who the fuck walks around with their porn collection on a USB drive and takes it to restaurants and shit?

I'm not talking about just those words, but the whole "legal to have sex" part. Also, as pertains to this particular instance, pornography of anyone under 18 is considered child pornography. Whether it's pedophilia or not, is not legally relevant.
Well, it is what "underage" refers to (aka "age of consent") . And regarding child pornography, legally speaking, you are correct. That doesn't change the thread title from being wrong though ("[...]accused of posessing child porn..." would be better) which is what we were talking about.

So far the common theme I see in all stories like this one is that people stumble through life, earn a ridiculous amount of money, and use it to have sex with minors. Am I missing anything? Oh yeah, and drugs. Lots of drugs.

Side thought. Have you noticed how only the most disgusting people seem to reach those positions of power?

Does seem to be a correlation there definitely. I'd imagine you would have to be beyond ruthless to get to the top.

Found this article online. It talks about how Mr. Pitchford has a "theater" in his home, where he showcases various acts/entertainers. I think the "Peacock Parties" accusation(s) may be out of context after reading the article. In terms of the allegations, i would imagine some of the "acts" had actors/actresses showcased some questionable content? Not defending the guy, just remaining neutral until truth comes to light, if any. I truly enjoy the games Gearbox create. Just doing my own bit of research. Article in link:

"Inspirational magic: Frisco video game creator Randy Pitchford loves illusions"..

Psycopaths and sociopaths rise to the top because they don't care about hurting people to get there and stay there.
I think it's much more complicated than that. I also think the Dunning-Kruger effect plays a big role in it.

Callender says that Pitchford left a USB drive in a Dallas, Texas restaurant .....

How did this unfold? Were both eating there? How did Callender find this USB, conveniently left out on a table for him or anyone else to pick up? On the floor? Who found this pendrive, at that specific Restaurant in Dallas? Callender?

How can someone leave a pendrive at the restaurant?
Wouldn't he NOT wave around his flash drive with child porn or anything near that topic in a restaurant? I mean, if you have it in your laptop you'd probably let it there and pack it into your backpack – stick and laptop together.

This sounds so weird.
