I really hate that I can't customize my character loadouts for horde outside of the horde game lobby where my time is limited. Also the whole "no duplicate" characters in horde sucks and sometimes forces me to play a char I don't want to or am super low lvl with.
Coalition pls.
They kinda fucked up horde mode.
edit: Like why is there 7 different fucking difficulties in horde mode. It splits the community and makes it difficult to get a full group. Even with mixing PC and console players.
Thanks to the incredible support from our fans, Gears 5 kicked off the Holiday season strong – attracting over three million players in its opening weekend and setting new records for Xbox Game Pass with the biggest launch week of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation. The performance...

One small detail that I personally hate that did not come back in Gears 5 is when you pop the pods. I loved how pissed off people would get at you. In this game, they don't care at all!
On the PC, (latest Nvidia drivers 436.30), I check the Xbox app to see if there is an update, it says 'no', so I start the game, I wait through the really long loading screen and when it finishes it kicks me back to the desktop, saying that I need to update the game. OK, whatever.
I download the update, restart the game, wait through the stupid loading screens again, check video settings and finds them reset to default, so fix those and start the game. Unfortunately, I'm getting max 45 fps and tons of stutter. Check GPU (1080ti) usage and it's fluctuating between 35-55%.
Quit game, reset Gears 5 "app" in the Win10 settings -> app menu (this worked for me after issues with the last 300MB update), restart game, wait through long ass loading screen, GPU still only seeing half usage. Give up and decide to bitch about on here.
When I played this game with old non-"game ready drivers" and without the recent game updates, it worked fine. Each Coalition update seems to make this run worse for me.
Update: Even though the new drivers had worked up until today, I decided to up roll back to Nvidia Driver 435.15 and things are working again. The small game update from today borked the 436.30 drivers (for me, at least).

I never update drivers even if the game complains about it. If it aint broke don’t fix it. 99% of the time the game still works and your other games still run like they should.
anyone else feel like ranked has way too many new players... i think with gamepass too, they just hop on and think its like any other game where they can just pick it up as they go... i kinda wish there was a lock on ranked until you play X amount of unranked games
when i have teammates on around 8 kills where as everyone is 20+, there is something wrong. This happens nearly everygame (1 or 2 players clearly out of their league)
KOTH ranked solo might just not be possible in this game, crossfiring is just so effective that you need to have an organised team for pushes. I dont think the map designs help either, maps give me a COD vibe where there is SOOOOOO many angles people can come/shoot from
First of all. Why do people join then leave after the first wave? This isn't some thing that occasionally happens... It's like 40% of the time that by round 10 there are 2 AI bots.
Fucking quitters.
Also why the hell are lvl one people doing these harder difficulties? Bro you need to understand that the game gets hard. Be prepared.
Why the hell am I the only good Jack player? Honestly? I receive like 20 people a match and have like over a hundred assists. Meanwhile some noob lvl 1 Jack won't let me play as my 14 Jack because "I'm really good as Jack". Stfu kid you suck and you know it.
Build turrets and barriers!!!! Wtf is wrong with you people?!?!

Just rolled credits had a great time with the Campaign. Maybe I'll jump into some multiplayer next week. I still haven't started borderlands and the call of duty beta is this week so gears may be done for awhile
Why do you say that? Don't get me wrong. This is my first foray into gears multiplayer for real. I have a copy of 4 but put only SOME time into it. It is pretty clear when people run things as a team. However, it hasn't ruined the experience. Granted I haven't gone against team pro or anything.

Just hit the snowy snow, up to this point it felt like Gears 4 all over again but somewhat better paced. That said I really don't care for these sections where you wander around looking for collectibles and things to look at, it's not very immersive and the dialogue is almost always so bad. The game works best when it's just trying to be an over the top action game so far though that also saw my first performance issues, that swarm thing boss fight had me dropping to 30 fps, gonna have to retry it and see if it was my fault for having a browser open but the game never dropped like that prior. The ammo economy was awful in Act 1 and I hope it changes in Act 2, maybe it's fine alone but in co-op it felt like we were fighting for ammo, could also be because we're playing on the experienced difficulty which man... that part where you're separated and one of you has to reach the other? The most annoying section since Gears 2 going through that worm on Insane difficulty for me. I feel like someone is going to tell me I'm doing this to myself by playing on Experienced but the non-bs sections are less fun if I drop the difficulty. There's also way too many enemy types that just run at you and explode/simply run at you. It feels like the game is trying to remind me as often as possible hip fire is terrible by having me try to hip fire enemies right in my face, the melee is particularly ineffective against this, too.
The last segment I played with the setting sun looked pretty gorgeous. The game is pretty uneven visually, though, interiors tend to be pretty boring though that could be more art style than anything else. The best looking stuff tends to be outdoors. There are a few guns that suck, like the Buzzkill and this one gun that shoots a weird explosive that you release RT to explode and I always release it late or early because of how fast it moves. The most satisfying gun, easily, is the sniper but they don't give it to me very often. Keep in mind while I'm complaining plenty I should be early in the game and am hopeful for many of my issues to dissipate. Though there's story stuff that confuses me, too, I never beat 4 but I got 75% in and don't remember
"this slaughter of "peaceful protesters"
the game is going on about. Did that happen at the end or something? Which btw, this game is pretty on-the-nose with the political stuff, like Fenix saying it's not the weapons he doesn't trust but who holds them and the argument about what counts as peaceful protests. I liked it better when they knew they were making big dumb shooter game and didn't try to handle heavy topics.

Gears 4 had a poor writing that missed to give detail any of the mentioned stuff.
Back when Del and JD were in COG, there was a mass protest in Settlement 2, Fahz was also with them. At some point JD fires at one protester because according to him, they were throwing grenades. This event led him to quit COG and convinced Del to do the same without saying the exact reason why.

Quitters and generally bad people are obviously present everywhere.
Main issues :
Time to kill. Insanity how quick a Lancer can take you out
Gamepass. Usually holiday sales mean massive numbers of scrubs but thanks to gamepass theres just too many massively clueless people. Im okay if youre bad but why are you in ranked running off alone? Thats dumb. Bad is fine, dumb is not.
Im enjoying the co-op but everything from lack or map variety to gnasher heavy gameplay is making this more a chore than enjoyable.
Guy hates everything. He is a moron just like that douche bag Jim Sterling.
Gears 5 is easily best Gears imo. I loved the characters and story and also liked new gameplay changes
Already got 100% completion in campaign with all collectibles and Jack upgrades done including coop insane playthrough. Now I'm working towards reaching 100 rank.
Anybody having trouble with the resolution in PC? I'm playing in a 4K TV, but I can't for the life of me play in more than 1080p. When I try upping the resolution scale, it says it's changed, but visually I see no change and the performance doesn't take any hit at all.
I know i am late but hopefully its still relevant. You most probably have minimum frame rate enabled as 60 or something. In this case the game will drop resolution and settings dynamically to reach 60fps at all times, which will result in lower resolution whenever the game cant hit 60fps at 4K native.

got to act 3 chapter 4. Not gonna write a spoiler but I was disappointed by the whole thing. Even more disappointed by the sound design. The sounds were so … underwhelming. The whole thing was just not good to me. It seems like something that was better in concept and poor in execution
Update:
I loaded a new game where I am able to start in any chapter that I started already. So I was able to start from the latest chapter I played (Act 3, Chapter 3). I ended up replaying a small segment of about 10 minutes which wasn't that bad.

For horde mode. Why is it that when I do a quick join it's only like one of for maps? I know the Dam, the Docks and others exist but I only ever see them on custom horde playlists?
What's up with that?
Also... Almost max lvl Jack. He is honestly the best thing about horde.
Leveling up individual characters instead of classes is way, way too much of a grind. Gears 4 had a much better system for Horde and cosmetics. This kinda sucks in comparison if I'm honest and I was hugely looking forward to it.
Game is Gears of Jack. The campaign seems impossible if it were not for Jack... I find that lackluster. They rely way too much on Jack in every situation. I like the mechanic and it adds some interesting scenarios and replayability BUT I wish there was less of a focus. Shock trap on Juvies is sooooo satisfying. I just watch them all explode into little itty bits
