WTF? Saturday night prime-time on launch weekend, and the game can't match me up into a single Horde game? It's been searching and re-starting for a few minutes now with no luck. Something's definitely not right here.
Yeah something not right indeed i was just in a horde game less than 20 mins ago. and speaking of horde mode, Anyone up for some? GT = Kafkarock

Anyone want or think Epic will add the ability to pull nades off of yourself if they are on your chest? I don't see it as being something worth putting in, but it could be a neat feature.

Yes, it was necessary. If someone was using a computer, and they pointed to their un-plugged power cord and said "hold on, I just need to put more coal into the power station", you would belittle them for confusing a power station with a power cord.

It only looks like douchebaggery if you're unfamiliar with the subject matter.

Bad analogy. The power cord would fit into the common knowledge category. The magazine vs clip usage does not. Stop being anal please.

I've actually found the complete opposite to be true..the game is way too damn dark on my set.
mine is pretty dark also. by chance are you using HDMI?

i'm using HDMI and 1080p. i wonder if those that are saying it's too bright are using component instead?

The environment variety blows away the first game. Being inside the you-know-what is sweet.

Are those chain guns the only things that perform "organ grinder" kills or is it anything that rips the enemy to shreds before they hit the ground?

Only for computer nerds.

And besides, this discussion is so page 71.

I'm using HDMI and the game looks great, no brightness issues. Also looks fine on VGA on my computer monitor

Beat Horde mode on casual Cant imagine beating the final 15 or so levels on insane. Casual was hard enough playing with 5 people. Took 3 or 4 hours to beat. We played the first 20 levels on hardcore.

On a side note I figured out why the shotgun sucks so much. firing from the hip is highly inaccurate. You need to aim with L in order to hit someone consistently. Takes some getting used to. Chainsaw kills way too easy to get. Hopefully the upcoming patch will address some of these issues.

This game is literally the best video game I have ever played. This might have even ruined other video games. Hahaha, it's just so good that why would I bother playing anything else?

I doubt this will get answered but can I get the achievements for beating the higher diffuculties if someone is playing on an easier setting with me? For instance, I beat the game on normal, but want to now beat it on insane and play it with a friend who wants to play on casual.

Picked it up and played like 5 hours of campaign today. :lol It is simultaneously frustrating (some cheap sequences) and jaw-dropingly awesome (everything else).

The water and (yuck)
fleshy
parts are pretty stunning technically and design wise, everything is so intense and massive in scale. Gears set pieces squared. Where Gears 1 was small-squad tactics, Gears 2 is (or feels like) larger force clashes.

The AI is massively improved, you can actually use them as line holders and keep back with the sniper rifle and pick people off. In the first game they were practically not there.

And the story is much more fleshed out and involving, I actually hate the locust, which makes killing them in ridiculously gory moves even more satisfying. Though I bet many are going to go through thinking "wtf is this story in my gears bloodbath?"

and to think we all laughed at the meat cube.

am I the only one who misses berserkers?

Adding them in would have felt like a throwaway repetitive boss. There were 2 of them (or more?) in Gears 1 so I doubt it was necessary to have them return.

while I agree that they shouldn't have been a boss, it would have been cool to lay waste to a couple (or even a bunch) of them with the tank.

I'm curious, of those who have completed the horde mode, did you do it all from 1-50 or did you restart from a high wave whenever you failed?

adam_grif said:
Is it a completely new weapon or is it just a retooling of the hammerburst?

Don't really know for sure (can't remember its name), but it feels completely different. Like your shooting high caliber each time.

There are so many good lines in this game. That writer they brought in is earning his pay (by being juvenile :lol).

I just beat the game, man what a ride, the Hive level felt a little too long as well as the Centaur sequene, like many have said the very First act is nothing special but the rest of the game is INSANE, what a game. I beat the game alone which is something i didn't do with Gears 1, just wasn't as exciting for me but this game is incredible, the graphics are for sure the best on a console game right now.

My GOTY by far.

Oh my gosh. I tried out the Hammerburst for the first time online yesterday, since I haven't shown it any love since I bought the game and am I impressed.

I thought this gun sucked because it was seriously underused, but it rocks! Seriously...I got about 2 kills with only 5 shots from it :0 The rest took a bit more, but it's still amazing. Will use it more often from now on :p

I got 32 downs today in a KOTH match with the Hammerburst, people are sleeping on it, but it's insane. I also downed someone from one base to the other on Pavilion with it, Lancer ain't got shit on that. :p

I will say though, it depends on how good your connection is since you have to lead the shots, it can suck with lag...

Im not sure how Acts are broken down, where am I at?

I am a little bit past the deactivation of the turrets with the choosing path part.

Man, lol. Do you quick fire with it or take it nice and slow? I also like the option of zooming in with it, that's a plus for me ^__^

But one thing I can't do at all with it is get a headshot. I don't understand how people do it...I shoot the head, but it just doesn't come off.

god damn the weapon balance is all screwed up in mp. why can you just run through shots when revving the chainsaw now? :[ the shotgun shoots way too slow, the gorgon is ridiculously overpowered, the lancer bullets are too weak, the 'land mines' take forever to shoot away, the blast radius on the boomshot is HUGE..I hope epic listens to feedback and teaks the weapons.

I can't believe I'm actually enjoying the campaign for tan the mp considering how much I mp I played in Gears 1.

I agree with everything you said except the Lancer bullets being too weak. Personally, I think the Lancer is just right. I totally agree with you about the Shotgun, it seem like Epic went out of there way to ruin it. Also, stopping power doesn't seem to work to well against the Chainsaw like you said but of course it works great against Shotgun. :(

The AI even manages to take out most of the enemies if the situation is ideal. During the section where you have to
escort Dizzy through the town
I took the roof paths. Decided to put the controller down to get something to eat, but didnt pause. When I came back, apparently Carmine had already taken care of the other locusts with his rifle :lol

And I still say other weapons should be able to participate in duels. Say, have the other person's chainsaw cutting into your gun while you try to force them back. Like a timed melee button press against their ready chainsaw. If you end up winning the duel with the non-saw weapon, you should do a really hard rifle butt.

the close range combat is broken, it's just ran at guy with chainsaw and suck him in. campaign = huge step forward. multiplayer = huge step backwards.

Does anyone else's AI know when you're aiming at them with the Sniper Rifle? As soon as I aim it at their heads those bastards hide lol...and then they won't come out for like 2 minutes until I lower my gun.

nope, that only happens in your copy.

lucky bastard.

My god, this one section is driving me insane.
The part where skourge is chasing you on his giant flying reaver. I cannot shoot the missiles down that he fires at me so on the 3rd time he shoots at me with his turret, i'm already so weak that I die in half a second. I've died at that exact same part 8 times in a row, can you even shoot down his missiles?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I beat it, last night. That was one Hell of a campaign. Not once did it ever let up. The section where you
ride the Reavers
reminded me of
Panzer Dragoon
. Man, imagine a
Panzer Dragoon
game with graphics like that! That would be something. It's never going to happen, though. :'(

The part where you
ride the Brumak
reminded me of the very last part of
Shadow of The Colossus
.

I haven't touched multiplayer yet. Hopefully, when I get around to it, it doesn't end up bringing my impressions down.

Push left or right on the left thumbstick and you can dodge all of those missiles. As for the turret, just shoot at the thing he is riding in the mouth and it should back off

No you can't, just avoid them (left stick). Always aim for the hands / mouth with the turret, then at the body with the rocket. I've died several times at that part too, but after figuring out what to do it's quite easy.

Wow, had a nice play session of Gears 2 and Valkyria Chronicles. Awesome fun from both!

This game is a nice blast of excellence after my mediocre experience with R2. This is pacing, team AI, enemy AI done right~!

Haha, I had no idea the left stick moved you in that sequence as the one before moved for you automatically. Thanks, I feel dumb as hell. I was about to look up poor Clifford's address and murder him in his sleep.

Seriously. The whole scene made Halo 3 Cortana look like a stroll through a fucking meadow.

The whole time I was playing it I had thought "this is what that crazy level in Halo 3 should have been like."

I just played the original in August and this is a big leap. That whole sequence surprised me, it was a Half-Life-esque navigation sequence that I didn't expect to encounter in a game like this.

I got invited to a Horde session. I don't know what the difficulty was set at but it was getting rough at around wave 19.

The ally AI in the campain seems a lot better this time too. A locust threw a grenade over the cover that me and two of the AI partners were using, and we all simultaneously climbed over the cover and ran for it. :lol

Some of the ways the lighting is used is cool too. The part where the tickers are first introduced and the part in the cave where Jack light's the way were well done.

Do they explain later in the game
why Tai shot himself? Was is just general torture or are they doing something that becomes a plot point?

Very cool so far. I'll hold off on multiplayer until after I'm done with the campaign and play some more horde mode.

Multiplayer pissed me off tonight....ranked matchmaking taking forever, people leaving in the middle of game, horde players sucking, etc. etc.

My God.

that part left a bad taste in my mouth. for the wrong reasons.
in the first place, it's sad and shocking not because you give a shit about dom and maria, but because she looks so much like a survivor of a real-world concentration camp. and what's worse, dom had no way of knowing that she couldn't recover -- essentially he shoots her because he still has an action game to star in and can't be dragging a horribly tortured woman around. and then he resumes spouting awful one-liners about five minutes later. so that scene

a. borrows its pathos from real world atrocities
b. rather mechanically and offensively kills the object of this pathos
c. and then pretty much blows the incident off

awesome, awesome game. aspirations to serious storytelling...maybe not such a good idea

edit:
and now that i think about it, there's no way that from dom's perspective maria would initially seem to be fine -- the scene is a shock devised for the player rather than an event in the life of a character
