The impact of the infamous Maria scene in Gears 2 would've been so much different had Karen Traviss already joined the team and written the game's script back then.
IIRC, Aspho Fields was out shortly before Gears 2 launched, and that book fleshed out how Dom and Maria's relationship began and how he was desperately looking for her for years. That set the tone quite well, but it's in the fucking book instead of the game! If she had had her way with the campaign's script and Epic had indeed used some more flashbacks before that cutscene arrived, everyone would've taken it more seriously.

So, I played KOTH for the first time yesterday, and yes, I got worked by the SOS. I mean, I played KOTH during the beta and enjoyed it, but this was the first time I've played it in the retail release.
I think I need to play more MP before deciding if the SOS is overpowered, or not.
Oh I just find the hate hilarious, that's all. Doesn't bother me. Being around GAF enough, it's not surprising who's in the other thread trolling/passive-trolling the game.

Okay Gears GAF, I need advice: I'm tired of being useless with the Longshot. GRANT ME YOUR INFINITE WISDOM!
I usually line shots fine and am pretty patient, but I have a serious twitch reflex problem (I blame UT99) and therefore always screw up the split-second before I take the shot. Don't even get me started on how problematic this is with the Torque bow.
How did you Sniper/Torque gods get so godly at it? Please give me some tips.

I'm getting pissed at all those one-shotting enemies on Insane. God-fucking-dammit.

Lot of it is just experience and anticipation of where you're enemy will be whether it's a roadie run, roll, or even even a slide against the wall. Also, you don't need to scope all the time. If the enemy is in within range, you might not need. Actives help. Enemies that are also damaged helps with the scope-less snipes. Maybe a shot or two with the hammerburst to get the enemy red, switch to sniper, aim for the head.

Starting off id say patience is a must. Until you get more comfortable with your aim start by learning how to get angles on people that are in cover and being suppressed by your team mates. It's easier to snipe undetected and easier to snipe people who are distracted than being the guy at the main entrance behind 3 of his teammates all who are lancing, waving his sniper rifle around. Mechanically, the way i got decent with the snipe was by not succumbing to that instinct to shoot as soon as i was close to the head with the reticule to catch them before they move. Learn to get to the head at a comfortable pace and discipline yourself to shoot only when you know the shot will pop their head off. Minimize that jerky twitch so many people develop. Better to be slow and accurate than fast and wasting 8 shots on one guy. With a bit of practice you'll be surprised how soon you'll find yourself getting to the sweet spot faster.
The other thing is learning to line up a shot before you aim. Learn visually where the middle of your screen is in relation to your character model. If you consistently keep your targets in that real estate you'll minimize meandering time when you aim or scope. This is also how i learned to hit dudes who were running at me or just running in general.

Absolute slump-ville, mayne. This game demands that you be 100%, mentally speaking; my performance coming off of a fever/cold these last few days has certainly been testament to that. I've been super shit.
It's a vicious cycle:
Sick > can't do anything > want to play Gears (would want to if I wasn't sick, anyway) > too "out of it" to pwn > rage > get more sick > quit > get bored... Rinse and repeat.
