To be fair, what do you want him to say? "This next pile of sparkling shit looks like a fucking joke compared to studios that have zillions to spend on hiring an army of artists, enjoy!"?
He can't do that because one, the entire point is to celebrate creators both big and small. Two, different people have different tastes. There's stuff that sounds like "Yet another one of those huh" that people thought looked cool. So he (as a host) can't be biased against a game just because it isn't another AAAAAAAA game.
And let's be honest; Geoff Keighley isn't a fake clickbait exaggerator like Asmongold and co. Yes, he hypes games and events. But if that's the extent of his 'evil' then I'll take that anyday of the week over the thumbnail drama queens who make this fantastic industry sound like an hourly warzone of humanitarian ideologies. He's literally one of the few famous people in games coverage who hasn't gone down the "Let me make people angry at something and or each other to make money" path.
Additionally, Geoff -- for all of his Doritos and Dew earnings -- is genuinely not a grifter. He knows his stuff. Without Geoff, we'd be left with lackluster events that are either 100% platform-advertisements (e.g., SoP, Nintendo Direct) or poorly produced quackiness that takes forrrrrreeeeeeeever to get to the good stuff (e.g., PC Gaming Show). The valid criticism I've seen about the Keighley's was the amount of stage time the award winners were given; it was far too short. He listened to the feedback and fixed that. And now, if you win an award, you don't have to execute BenShapiroTempo.exe to get a couple of sentences in before the cello starts playing.
Finally, Geoff Keighley, for all his 'hype' faults, is the same guy who did The Final Hours of Half-Life, wasn't a coward towards Don Mattrick during an era where 99% of 'journalists' were gobbling Xbox's nuts, did Game Head/Game Trailers for years without turning it into an unwatchable adfest, etc. Let's give credit where credit is due; the guy has significantly more positives than negatives in the gaming industry, and as hypey and adsy as his shows can be, losing him would suck way more than people realize. Way waaaaaay more than you might think.
