Gettin' a DS -- still possible?

Sure, it's possible. 90% of the initial shipment is sold out. And there's more coming by the end of December.

But after the last Saturday before Christmas, I wouldn't count on it for a few weeks.

Target and Wal-Mart in Redding, CA have many, many of them. Your best bet is non-game specific stores like this.

NDS is doomed?
No, it will just have alternative uses.

Nintendo announced that they will be offering retailers a discounted price on the pallets of unsold DS systems, so they can be used as crowd control barricades at launch events for the PSP, Resident Evil 4, and GBA DragonQuest Monsters: Rape Rape High School Edition.

You should really lighten up a bit. I'd suggest so anyways, read about MrBob?

I bought one today, despite some of the advice in the DS thread above against it. I'm liking it so far, picked up feel the magic and Mario.

The local EB's had 8 units between them, the superstore was sold out though wheras the Zellers and Walmart had plenty in stock. Superstore, if youlive in canada saves you 10 bucks if you buy mario DS and the system. Only 230 bucks.

Take a road trip to Wisconsin, where MrBob lives. He's probably some free time on his hands for the next two weeks to show you around too ;)

You're aware Nintendo makes this device, yes?
It's like car insurance! I don't want it, I need it! Just because I think it's the next Furby doesn't mean I can afford to turn down freelance work related to it!

If anyone in the US needs a DS I'll buy them one and ship it at cost. The is a Target and a Wal Mart so close to my house I can see them both from my window, and they both have plenty of DSs left.

There are plenty of leftovers in Japan :D

As I've been away from the site for a day or two, what's this about? Senseless trolling, right? I thought the DS didn't launch in Japan for a few more days...

You thought wrong. And check IGN's JP launch impressions for the reason behind border's remark.

Then be sure to check my post in the Official JP Launch thread. Or take a look at Famitsu, Game Watch, etc

IGN already posted an article about the "quiet" launch:

DCharlie has been SENSELESSLY TROLLING for days, that jerk...

BWHWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Absolutely not! If you get your ass to Shibuya you'll be able to fight through the non-existant queues to pick up your unit.

Let me troll too, there are empty queues out in front of Yodobashi Camera RIGHT NOW!!! OH NO DS IS DOOMED!!!

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the bank to exchange some money and play DS in the meantime :D

Just steal one from a demo kiosk

Good luck, I tried for a solid 15 mins to open the unit up to put Mario 64 DS in it.. I never could figure it out

If you must have a DS, the nintendo rep that's been assigned to the Target I work at assured me that I'd be getting some more DS units by next week. So if you live in or around Columbus Ohio there's a glimmer of hope for you, but I'd highly reccommend calling at 8am sharp when we open and demanding that one be held for you for at least an hour or so until you can get out there, don't take no for an answer.

However it was the Nintendo Rep that assured me of this.. just like the Sony rep assured me we'd get PS2s soon and that was last month, to this point since then we've gotten 6 PS2s, so my level of trust for company reps is running low. Still for those of you who must have the DS take heart!

i've seen them a little bit of everywhere. we've got 4 or so at work at TRU, 8 over at gamecrazy, i counted about 20 at walmart while i was in there looking for something else.

so far i havent seen any retailer i've been in "run out"

but if you dont act soon, i'm sure that could change

I haven't seen one for a few weeks in Mid-Michigan. Keep trying the Targets, Meijer's, and Wal Marts... Good luck.

You just have to be lucky if you're just going to go to Target/BestBuy/TRU, etc. If you get to a store once the put out more units you'll get it. Unfortunately, there's no single day that the shipments can come in on or a single time of day that they get shipments. It's all random.

Now, if you want to preorder it, there's a decent chance you'll get it according to my local gamestores. They expect to get shipments weekly and they expect for all preorders to be filled by Christmas.

I'm in Grand Rapids, most stores (Best Buy, Target, Meijer) excluding EB has them, especially Circuit City. It looked like they had over 10 units, but only Mario 64 and Madden for games.

I was looking for a DS the other day, and I called about 10 stores. None of them had it, but EB said if I put money down, I would be guaranteed one from the next shipment. Beh.

I'll wait. They're selling for too much on ebay now. Big demand I suppose.

You can get them for about $180 on eBay. In my area (NYC), the thing is $160-something after tax, so it's not a big difference.

OK well so I went to

- Target x2
- EB
- Gamestop x3
- Circuit City
- Best Buy

and no Nintendo Furby. Maybe tomorrow.
