Well she was a cheap cyberpunk hooker in the manga, well maybe not "cheap" but she did do some cyber hooking haha. I like the new design, it's more...muted. Perhaps younger than in SAC/2nd Gig?


And this is one of my absolute favorite series of all time. I can't WAIT.

Love that poster! I know nothing about Tow Ubukata though... Haven't seen any of the shows mentioned in the OP. He any good? What's his stand-out work?

Actually I take that back, he wrote Le Chevalier D'Eon? Sold.

I know it's not fair to judge the show off one image, but that looks like bad fan art. I was hoping the next Ghost in the Shell would be Stand Alone Complex 3rd Gig.

It'll be different, for sure. Cornelius has a specific style as an artist; Kanno's quite the chameleon.

Finally. This news has made my day. I watched Serial Experiments: Lain recently and found that to be a really cool substitute for my Ghost in the Shell addiction.

They've been rather mixed to be quite honest. Guilty Crown had fantastic animation and Attack on Titan doesn't look bad either. They've also had some clunkers and damn near disasters too.

Well, ultimately studios are just offices. The quality of a show depends on the people working on it. Takayuki Goto worked on SAC a lot as animation director, and more recently he worked on Blood-C, which also had really solid action animation. So the talent's still there, just not spread out as much.

I really think the new design is weak as fuck, Makoto ought to be fit. :\
I don't watch a whole lot of anime though (make that none at all, as of recently) and S.A.C. is one of the few things i did watch.
I am not overly bothered by the occasional booty shots or some obnoxious camel toe, and i still managed to enjoy it, so i think i'll check this out despite the weird design, might still be good.
But yeah, so far i'm not sold on it.

Not her 2nd gig look, and even then her 1st look is better than this bland crap. The only reason people probably like this is because its tame, which is fine, but that doesn't mean it has to look generic or whatever this is.

but Motoko is iconic enough. The fact that her new character design even reminds me of Kaneda is the problem
Looks like she went to a halloween party dressed as [not quite] Kaneda


(I'm not saying her new design is as good as Kaneda's... I'm saying it looks like a cheap generic knock off)

I'm all over this. Really can't wait to see more news hit. The initial design will take some getting used to for me, but I'm definitely optimistic.

I will take anything from the Ghost in the Shell universe. It is my second favorite anime behind Cowboy Bebop. I love the atmosphere, characters (yes even the Tachikomas), and writing of both seasons and movies. I wish there were more anime series like it. I do not think the new design is that bad and will most likely get used to it quickly.

I don't like Makoto's new design. But I will give the series a try. It can be great but it can be the ultimate failure... I connect some of the worse animes with Production I.G. the recent times. (Guilty Crown, that Mass Effect film)

She wasn't exactly that muscular in Stand Alone Complex either. Technically the new design has less body fat.

Probably. I have little faith in anime, anymore.

Still, at least it has potential. That's more than you can say about the vast majority of anime!

I don't like the look of the main character, though. Too young. Hopefully they don't turn the show into another brat-filled anime.

It's kinda funny you mention that, coz' in one of the episodes of GITS SAC the 2nd gig called Affection (episode 11), there's a 'flashback' to Motoko's childhood days and they actually showed the reasons why she had to have a full cyborg body replacement in the first place and the rehabilitation she had to undergo to adapt her mind to her new cyborg body.

As a teenager she'd already have been a fully prosthetic 'borg, so to speak.

As others have probably said it already, this might look fantastic in motion.

For instance, I was against Code: Breaker first illustration of the characters but I will be damned if they all didn't look good in the final product. Shame about the actual show though, what a mess.

The design while not amazing looks like one of her back up bodies she used during SAC.I'd like to see a better costume that doesn't evoke Michael Jackson circa Thriller.

To be honest the way I.G is currently i just can't get excited about a new series which is terrible as i love GitS. Hopefully with more news and a trailer i'll get hyped.

Please be good. I love me some GitS - I'm currently re watching 2nd GIG which is one of my top favourite series ever.
I don't mind the new Motoko design, but I'm looking forward to seeing more.
