My gripe so far is that performance is absolutely horrible in OG PS4.

You're doing it wrong, as soon as you set a target on the map the wind starts blowing in that direction, even without you having to use the guiding wind. You only need to use it when you are close to the target, but even then it's not really needed. I rarely use the guiding wind.I don't like the wind navigation at all. The world is really not designed in a way that you can navigate organically. Most of it so far is flat, with trees blocking some view, and a lack of distinct landmarks. This means that to find anything at all, you basically have to mark it on your map, and then spam the wind button over and over to figure out which way to go while a distance meter on the top left tells you the number of meters you are from the objective. It's not immersive to me, and honestly takes me even further out of the game than a compass or quest marker, because I'm constantly having to spam the wind button over and over to make sure I'm not just riding into the wrong direction with no clue.
The game started off with great pacing and the game is getting even better as I'm mastering the combat and I just unlocked kunai's that Jin can throwFor those currently playing/finishing the game:
Would you say that the review averages of 83 & 85 are generally spot on? Should it be higher or lower? 80 range scores are generally categorized as “great: These games leave us with something outstanding to remember them by, usually novel gameplay ideas for single-player or multiplayer, clever characters and writing, noteworthy graphics and sound, or some combination thereof. If we have major complaints, there are more than enough excellent qualities to cancel them out.“
Bro track your destinations on the map to make it easier on yourself, also items you can pick up, light up every second. It sounds like me and you are playing two different games from your early review lolHonestly, so far I am pretty disappointed. It just feels like Sucker Punch has sacrificed their focus on fun gameplay to chase the "immersion" and graphics as their focus. I'm still very early in the game, so I could change my mind for sure.

Items are so blended into the environment that you can barely even see them highlighted enough to collect them. I literally searched a whole room and barely saw one of the main collectibles. Supply bags and bamboo eventually become recognizable, but it's still not ideal.
The camera is extremely tight and up close to the main character. Following footprints is even less fun than in The Witcher because they're not even visible most of the time. You're not able to see your surrounds and the skyline easily, or enemies surrounding you become obscured with the camera pulled in so close. The only reason to do that is to focus on graphics and "immersion," but it just makes it so I can't hardly see what's going on.
Combat is not great either. Hammer enemies spam unblockable attacks 3-5x in a row. Animations look fragmented and juttery. Controls are not responsive 100% of the time when doing hold moves. There are very little graphical indications that you're low on health, forcing you to always look at the extremely small bar on the bottom left (immersion!). The guard break system for enemies is not very fun, amounting to basically just spamming the heavy attack button on each enemy. Shooting the bow does not feel good, especially after Days Gone with it's subtle gyro. Enemies at a distance are so visually indistinct that you often have to squint to even see them in the archery quest. The controls for archery are extremely unresponsive as well. If you're holding L2 to aim and get shot, you don't return to your aim stance. You have to let go of L2 and start over. Your ammo number is also not that visible (immersion) and you may run out of ammo and not even know it immediately because it's the same as when the controls don't respond. I don't find the archers that fun to fight either if you focus on melee.
The whole game feels janky in terms of character movement. The horse is not smooth when accelerating and turning. Mounted combat sucks as well.
Stealth is not great, with zero ability to mark enemies making this feel very primitive compared to newer stealth focused games. The focused hearing is more x-ray vision, which is the lowest form of correction for bad game design. Enemy placement and level design is not great for stealth, so fix it with x-ray vision instead of crafting it intelligently. And you have to spam it on and off a lot, which is tedious and annoying, and the color washed out look is not great when using it. You can't even move bodies, which sucks. Even Tenchu Z feels like it has 100x the stealth options this game does. Obviously more is coming, so we'll see.
I'm so into samurai and ninja stuff that I'll still enjoy the game, and probably try to platinum it. But I'm honestly not even having that much fun so far. The story is not that great either. Having the game throw stupid guilt trip memories at you after you decide to pursue the ghost path is dumb. They missed the chance to have him train as a ninja as well, and he instead just kind of picks it up immediately and it feels extremely rushed. The story in inFamous SS felt better so far. Cutscenes are also often stiff and lifeless, unless they're main story ones which are all pretty awesome.
Right now I'm leaning towards a 7 out of 10, which emphasis on good graphics. Navigating in this world is a chore, and feels worse than almost all other open world games. I don't enjoy spamming the wind button and just awkwardly riding into the void, completely blind, in a game that doesn't have strong enough level design to promote organic exploration.
Nioh 2 is 20x as good as this game, has tons of weapons with way more depth than this, way more enemies, way more bosses, better level design, online co-op, better cutscenes, better everything. I agree with Edge's review. This game is not going to be remembered as top tier after the dust settles. I'm honestly shocked that their visual and art design decisions are so bad for supporting clear gameplay. Everything destructible or interactive in that game looked clearly designated with yellow highlights and still looked stunning artistically, while promoting extremely clear gameplay options. This is an excessively "realistic" looking game that's tough to actually play correctly and would be better off as a movie.
I agree 100% on all of that except for Bloodborne, just couldn't get into that game. Days Gone is an awesome game though and graphically it's one of the most impressive open world games this gen, yeah it's realistic and not stylized but man it looks good.
BTW nice arms lol.
Thanks lol and I respect everyone's opinion as long as they convey it respectfully. Hey, your talking to a guy tht hates Witcher 3, RDR2 and thought Botw was OK lol. It's a blessing there are so many quality games out there to fill everyone's likes and desires.
Btw, Ghost of T just keeps getting better, I'm fucking loving it. I think at the end of all this I'll be raising my score to like a 90
Same here. Hate witcher 3,rdr2 and botw was okay to me too lol.
But I love GOT (at least for now) . Maybe because of it combat and how great the traversal is (love the horse control and animation). I think the guide wind is genius move from sucker punch. I can see a lots of game will borrow this idea.
And fuck “no lock on” option btw. Hope they will add it later
It's so weird to always see opencritic "fans" in these threads arguing against Metacritic when the scores are basically the same lol
Don’t shoot the messenger, whether artistic changes or tech downgrade - I can see from this why I was impressed from initial showing, after not as much....
Edit: have not played game myself yet
Is this the prettiest open world game ever? GOT should get as much praise as BOTW.
Well for me that the most important part, which makes me like GoT’s overall visuals more than Horizon and RDR2.Art Direction I say yes...
but RDR2 and Horizon are better looking overall (IMO).
83 MC score seems low for the very positive - glowing reactions I'm hearing from people online who are playing it. Am I missing something?
And of course being a western game they have to subtlety throw in their woke agenda, like the female wannabee samurai who acts like a mary sue and is supposed to train a group of men to fight in feudal japan (bitches can't even coach football to grown men in modern times and I'm supposed to believe these guys are ok getting instructions about fighting a war from some girl with no training or position in feudal japan). And of course the females are all fugly on purpose, which was predictable, and they inexplicably add a fighting grandma samurai, which no one asked for and breaks the immersion when playing that story, this isn't devil hunter yohko for crissakes.
Onna-bugeisha (女武芸者, "female martial artist") was a type of female warrior belonging to the Japanese nobility. These women engaged in battle alongside samurai men mostly in times of need. They were members of the bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war. Significant icons such as Tomoe Gozen, Nakano Takeko, Empress Jingū and Hōjō Masako are famous examples of onna-bugeisha.
That's my worry. All review are great but the game looks super bland, slow and generic. Don't help that anytime I check out some steam, it's night and then the lighting looks super flat. I mean, slow is fine... I love death stranding and tlou2(tlou2 was too long). I also really enjoyed 2nd son.Not sure on this game. Played a few hours and it's just kind of....bland. The combat is fun, but also really frustrating with the camera and scenery blocking views. Certainly not the worst game in the world, but hopefully it picks up
Lol okay, put one of your "female samurais" up against a male and see who wins, let alone a 65 year old granny. if they had any utility in battle it was likely as a defensive nature, after most of the men were killed and no one else is left. It's just common sense.Onna-musha - Wikipedia

Please don't make retarded statements unless you've brushed up on your Japanese history. The presence of female samurai in the game is inline with historical fact and very believable. It's only during the Edo period (1600-1868) which saw 200+ years of peace in Japan, that the samurai went from being warriors to bureaucrats and their wives devoted themselves to household duties.

"The reasons for female participation in battles may be summarised as follows: by and large, female involvement in conflict was of a defensive nature. Thus, apart from one or two ambiguous examples, there are no records of women being recruited to serve in armies or ordered to fight, neither do there appear to be any authentic examples of all-women armies."

On the face of it, the female samurai warrior is a very elusive creature. The woman’s role seems to be exercised only behind the scenes: in palaces, council ...www.military-history.org
Then you must hate Sekiro!Lol okay, put one of your "female samurais" up against a male and see who wins, let alone a 65 year old granny.
Days Gone has 71, yet real players and customers were very happy with the game. ratio was like 100:1 to negative comments, very warm receptions and recommendation pushed thousands upon thousands sold games.83 MC score seems low for the very positive - glowing reactions I'm hearing from people online who are playing it. I think my score might reach a 90 for Ghost of Tsushima as well. This game has soul. The combat and standoffs are addicting and the combat has more depth than I originally thought. The game is also damn beautifulThanks lol and I respect everyone's opinion as long as they convey it respectfully. Hey, your talking to a guy tht hates Witcher 3, RDR2 and thought Botw was OK lol. Yep, I look forward to every encounter even if I get my ass kicked by trying to block an unblockable attackI’m really really enjoying the combat in this game, which is the only thing I though was going to suck.
I watched a video today of the first 15 minutes of the game and decided to hold off on buying till PS5 launch.
This game deserves to be played while at its best.
