Ghost of Yotei Has a Similar Sized Map to Tsushima, But It Is Denser and Designed to Feel Grand

Speaking with Automaton Media, Sucker Punch revealed to have adopted the same vision. They didn't want to have to produce filler content for a much larger map. However, they did make sure to make the map feel grander, which is appropriate since this setting is much larger in real life than that of the previous game.

Ghost of Yotei includes various systems and details aimed at making exploration feel free and rewarding. For example, running through flowers increases your movement speed, and if you follow these flower trails, you might discover hidden secrets. We've also added new items like telescopes and binoculars to allow players to enjoy the scenery. All these details work together to ensure that players won't get bored even on a large map.

Ghost of Tsushima's map size was perfect, it's good to see Sucker Punch isn't making it even bigger for the sake of a sequel, and is instead doubling down on quality over quantity.

That's good.

I was not a fan of tsushimas sparse maps.

Alot of the stuff they are talking about post state of play is getting me a bit more excited for it.

They haven't learned anything from the previous game. What the fuck kind of exploration is this, when you're being hand held by little flowers to find secrets? They just don't get it, and i am not surprised, this is how Sony's AssCreed is bound to be.

Yeah, for me too, a lot of the things they have said after the State of Play have made me a lot more excited for it

I thought the real island was geographically at least twice as big as Tsushima...

I know it's a game but kind of a shame it's basically the same size

Wait... telescopes AND binoculars?!

Marketing statements, when we all know that "denser" means tsushima 1 busy work x10 instead of handcrafted stuff to do.

They have already confirmed that mainline and platinum are about the same duration as GoT. So no... it's not x10 (thankfully). It likely does mean more variety instead, which the first lacked significantly.

Or the balloons in Mad Max, or the towers in Breath of the Wild, or the towers in Death Stranding 2, or the vantage points in Creed Shadows, or the belfries in Forspoken or..
And that is not how you do interesting exploration in a video game. In most games you've mentioned, exploration wasn't a big goal of the game, but here, they do try to make it sound like finding secrets is important.
