Maybe it had something to do with it, but if it was a big contributing factor I think he would've left long before he did. Most likely it's just that moving to Chicago made it impossible to be effective at what GB is all about: interaction with other editors, being a personality-driven website. Kotaku is a site that only does written news, and for all of his video stuff he has his Youtbe channel. I don't think it's anymore complicated than that.
I can't help but feel that the max tempkin stuff and the fact he was working out of their office wasn't something that anyone at cbsi wanted to deal with.
Looking back Patrick wanted to help shape Giantbomb into what the original vision for polygon was.
And a subscription site would be the perfect place to pay for long stories and editorial pieces but Giantbomb under Jeff and Ryan was never really about that. To them they just wanted to reveal who the developers were and be no nonsense she, calling out shit games.
I do wish their was a little more structure to some of the site and its content. Yeah it sucks to be forced to review a game but you would get so much more passion from the crew about a game like that. Like how SimCity and Destiny.
I really hope the new person helps encourage the staff to write more. I'd like to think that they redesign the set and try to up the look of things a bit. Compared to Danny's show and even stuff from big YouTube's they are falling behind.
