Vinny: "[The Prima strategy guide for Splatoon is] just a mirror that says 'chump.'"
you know, as great as someone chewing out the goddamned remaster trend and capcom for their BS is, I always thought this particular rant felt a little off because the thing that sparked it was the others talking about an HD rerelease as if it was a remake or a new game when it was never presented like that
Vinny: "[The Prima strategy guide for Splatoon is] just a mirror that says 'chump.'"
if anything, Jason's take on the Capcom remaster train was the most accurate.
paraphrasing:
- Capcom remasters a game to ostensibly test current interest in the series
- Some people buy it to show that they want new games
- Capcom thinks people really like remasters
Physical strategy guides seem like something that should have died circa 2008.
I ended up buying (and using) the Dark Souls strategy guide when it came out, but that's the first one I had bought in like a decade. It also might as well double as an art book.
New Yu-Gi-Oh for new consoles is coming, you nerds.
Suburban All-stars has surprisingly good lyrics. I... can't say the singing is very good, though Jeff usually has decent delivery, but the lyrics are usually really funny.
People getting super upset over Blizzard removing Tychus cigar has just been amazing.
I sometimes worry very much for the people of Gaf, with how angry everyone seems to be constantly at any kind of news.
I feel like the only positive thread I've read recently was that thread on all the cut content/concept work done on the Metroid Prime series. And that thread was started three years ago.

Not giving two degrees of a fuck about how businesses operate, yearly earnings, and promotional hype cycles provides a pretty decent quality of life when it comes to internet discussions.
If you follow any type of new gaming news, it's just going to get you angry. The hype/PR cycle/pre-order culture has rightfully made everyone cynical. At least we still have Vinny.

We're all turning into Jeff lol
You're lying, it's clearly impossible to like video games without putting a personal investment in the business side of a company and yelling at people for not liking the games I like.
I....I need to see this. Were can I find this?
They should have replaced it with an e-cig
I guess I'm kind of lucky in that a lot of the stuff I'm into is smaller games and niche titles, and those threads are almost always overwhelmingly positive with people legitimately excited about the game.

See, I disagree with the bolded- understanding basic business practices will help you understand 95% of the news that people loose their minds over.

Oh, I don't know. I enjoy following the business side of things. I find it fascinating.
I enjoyed how Jeff calmly explained why Konami has reasons to delist PT instead of just jumping on the loud and popular "Fuck Konami!!!" train.
It's not just being angry at news, it's anger towards each other too - mostly in Gaming. The place is like a minefield of people just waiting to pop off without even attempting to understand the other's point or give them the benefit of the doubt.
I pretty much treat that side of GAF as read-only.
It isn't just on GAF,
We are in a weird "angry first" internet culture right now. In which people get angry for the sake of getting angry. Everyone wants to be outraged. I think this is true for everyone regardless of political/social orientations. Doesn't matter if you are a gamer-gater or a radical feminist, no one gives a fair and measured response. It is just react and react LOUDLY. Shame them. Don't just make them someone you disagree with, make them your "enemy".
You can't have a conversation anymore. There are no friendly back and forths. No good natured debates. It is reaction, and heaven forbid if you are on the other side of it.
I have just read the "Witcher 3 downgrade fiasco" thread and I am convinced if we could harness that energy for something productive we could all ascend Stargate style or something.

That energy would lead to Event Horizon at best though.
When your best-case scenario is Event Horizon, you are well and truly fucked.
if I'm gonna die, there's a lot of things that are less appealing than a possessed spaceship.
Really? Like what? What could be worse than literally hell?
dying in some insignificant and stupid way. slipping and falling in the shower. an avoidable infection.
if I'm gonna go, it might as well be at the hands of the most incomprehensibly awful thing in the universe
