I still don't get what that means.

I'm gonna chime in and say that I'm pretty sure Pitchford's "hobby-grade" thing goes back to interviews he was doing for Borderlands 2 where he talked about how he wanted BL2 to be a game that people played as a hobby in and of itself i.e. devote thousands of hours of your life to it until all you once held dear is but a ruin. And now that he's selling Battlestorm or whatever he's picked up on "hobby-grade" as a term that he just assumes people will understand. But yeah, I think that's what he means.
