It would be funny if Patrick just ignored your new level. Didn't even attempt it. Even if he clears it there is bound to be another along soon. Sometimes the only way to win is not to play.

I think that's exactly what he should do. Patrick has nothing to prove. Even if he loses, he still has Dan beat 2-1. There's no rubber match when it's 2-1.

I'm going to be little bummed out if, by the end of all of this, Patrick doesn't have a single level of his own creation. Dude's seen too much to not have something of his own.

I want Patrick to make a level for Dan. Dan's all like "Oh, I'm so good a Mario har-di-har" yet everytime I've seen him play a MM level he sucked at it.

That's right Dan, Patrick is a better Mario player than you now. You got lazy and overconfident and he lapsed you. And you have created him.

To be fair patrick has like a gazillion hours to play what people throw at him and dan most of the time have a pretty strict time limit.

My god the start of the Kerbal video. Terrific.

And Vinny is trying to bury the truth with his revisionist history about what happened to Bob. Don't believe his lies.

My very, very lame defence of the poor writing and joke quality in BL2:

It's a game designed around playing with friends, so has to account for you most likely talking over a lot of the game's dialogue and not really following the story; the jokes need to be fast, simple and obvious. Basically one of those dumb teen comedies in game form. That was my experience with it and I imagine a much different one if I played alone and actually listened to everything.
That's a pretty good point actually. I played huge parts of it like that, too, and it's more about your voice chat and maybe some tactics than whatever NPCs tell you. Often you're not even the one talking to them.

Is Vinny Kerbal's Soviet Union?

Hey... psst.

Reality here. You guys are dreaming of replacing the writing in Borderlands 2 with Tales of.

Unfortunately, Borderlands 2 has sold millions and millions and millions of copies. Many, many more than Tales of.

There's every indication that the widespread criticism of Borderlands 2's writing on GAF is actually just the vocal minority.

Borderlands 3 will likely be very similar tone-wise to Borderlands 2.

It's just kind of the way things are going to go.

Now, for the record, I didn't necessarily love the writing in Borderlands 2. There were a few parts that made me laugh and there were several parts that made me groan. I never felt attached to the characters, but I also don't feel the visceral hatred that others feel for it.

I am, however, hopefully looking forward to Borderlands 3 because I like that gameplay. They need to advance it, because I burned out of the Pre-sequel about halfway through, so I can't just take Borderlands 2 rehashed.

As for the Tiny Tina stuff, both the Burches are at RocketJump now so I can see them de-emphasizing or omitting her.

my hope for BL3 would be the ability to turn off cutscenes and unnecessary dialogue on subsequent playthroughs. would certainly make the prospect of replaying the game less uncomfortable

It's the Fallout 4 situation. As much as I wish the role playing and story was better in those games that series is on a trajectory where my increasing disappointment is matched by its increasing sales.

Either most people who buy those games have different tastes to me or simply don't care about those elements.

The actually real problem with BL2 is that the loot isn't very good.

I would be excited for BL3 if they promise to remove every one of those stupid guns with the bouncy exploding shots.

The fact that Burch co-wrote the last 3 episodes of Tales from the Borderlands makes me hopeful that the writing in BL3 will be a tiny bit better at least.

Just be happy that the indie scene has picked up the torch for some of the more hardcore stuff to fill that void.

It's especially nice that indie games at this point have risen to the level of the old B-tier. I think the Beastcast talked about it a couple weeks ago and I realized that it was true, and it's nice.

Can't wait for the holidays

Things have been too busy this semester but I have managed to keep my self updated with the content over the past few weeks.

They should do something like the Adventure Mode from Diablo 3. Having to replay the story (even just the area progression without cutscenes/dialogue) is such a bummer.

The problem is that Adventure Mode's heart is the procedurally generated areas. Borderlands doesn't do procedurally generated stuff.

However, they really should.

He left Gearbox and went to RocketJump. Would Gearbox bring him back to help write BL3?
I forgot he'd left, Telltale brought him back so he could certainly return for BL3, though I cant say that I'm exactly interested in him doing so.

I guess the question at this point is who does Gearbox get to write BL3, at least that means I can continue my hopes for the Tales writers at least co writing it.

I am not really a street fighter guy but the new Tekken Trailer and the reveal is bad fucking ass.

But if I was Mr Tekken I would have put a Street Fighter character in the game and not told anyone and have it as a super end game unlock like the weird unlocks during the PS1 era. I guess that doesnt happen much these days.

Yup. I think I loaded up the Pre-sequel with my Borderlands friends maybe once? Nothing felt new.

Borderlands 3 really needs to embrace it's modern day diablo-ness. Entire paper doll loot slots, procedual map generation, ladders, the lot.

So, I need something to go along with work today. Any Unprofessional Friday recommendations?

I have been watching some random ones but if there are some especially good I would welcome them!

It's the worst. It took me over eight hours to upload the fucking thing. I was almost delirious and half-asleep near the end, but now I feel insanely wired now that I've beat it. Can't wait to see how long it takes people to beat it, and I pray that there are no exploits. I never want to play that level again.

6AAB-0000-011A-36E8 if anyone is interested.

Dave Lang nailed it on the podcast. They try to go for something that nobody else really does (not as true as it was in the past anymore) and they're willing to overlook all that buggy garbage that comes with it. And it works, people want it that way. I'm all for it, too, honestly. Try to make something special, polish is overrated in some cases.

There was a really good article against polish in indie games, but I can't find it. The existence of Poland ruins my google results.

Edit: What a timely thread: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1156361

i wish i could say 'oh blerg fallout doesn't offer nuthin special' but the truth is that sense of exploration you get in bethesda games is kinda unmatched even as when you actually get to a place you discover that the journey it turned out was way fucking better than actually doing anything anywhere.

Catching up with UPF and got to the part where Jeff is sure Uncharted games are rated M due to strong language. I wonder what other game he's confusing it with.

Love how much Vinny is getting into the production of this Kerbal series. The "Previously On..." was great, and then he ends it with a sneak peak of the next episode.

Does Kerbal have support for multiple monitors so you can have the ship view on one monitor and maneuvering on another one etc.?

Yeah they should, but I think just having randomized enemies (including minibosses) would do a lot. Anything's better than the same static progression.
