I have two real loves (vices?) when it comes to time-wasting television, and it's british panel/game shows and japanese variety shows.
more than most japanese tv, the bar for language/understanding with variety shows is pretty low, which makes it kind of perfect for where I am in my studies. I'm at probably 70-80% comprehension vs like 30-40 with dramas etc. it's low-brow entertainment for sure but it makes me happy.

Jeff's perspective on Downwell is exactly the same response I had. Got to the boss, beat it which was a pain (fuck you guys for putting the water level in the middle of this), was very satisfied by the end, and don't want to touch it again.
It's a little too shallow but for 3 bucks I'm not complaining that much.
My fiancee on the other hand managed to unlock every single palette.

I would say it's less that the show stops being good at that point. It's more that that's the point were you as a viewer realize it was always terrible and any hope you had that it might turn into something worth watching is finally smothered.
it's a shitshow from the very start, but it doesn't really accelerate until that point

Same. Games like BoI and Spelunky I can just keep playing for tens of hours after beating them, but not Downwell. Maybe not enough variety in Downwell?
Yeah, the timing of that whole thing is so good that it almost looks scripted.
NuDan would use Sour Cream instead.

Most definitely. Very few items to chose from and no real interaction with each other. I can't talk to Spelunky but part of the reason I kept playing BoI was that the item combinations became crazy at a point, and using Brimstone has got to be one of my favorite gaming things in recent memory. There's also so much more to BoI in terms of enemies and resource management.
Given how much Blow has put into this, The Witness will either be great or the biggest possible failure ever driven by the ego of a madmen. I expect it to be the former, but we'll see.

That Ryckert QL video is a lot sooner than I realized.
I feel a bit in-between. I didn't come out that first arc hating it, but it's the point where I realized they were abandoning all potential for that premise and started to question if there was potential at all.

I really hope we get a new Let's Run this year.
Either outcome will be very interesting. That kind of development just feels a lot more personal than most, and Blow is really going all out. There's not enough spectacular failures in gaming.

It really feels like Blow is betting everything he's got on a single project he really wants to make. We've never really seen someone do that at the scale he has here. It will be super fascinating to see the outcome.
Yeah, he's been working on it for so long too. I remember Ryan and Brad going over to his house(?) to play a part of the game and then talking about it on a Bombcast.

Then someone posted a link to a porn staring a ex wrestler and now wrassle gaf is closed until February and a bunch got banned.
