Mass Effect 1 is the only Mass Effect game with a good ending.


Andromeda ending doesnt seem bad outside of the animations. Granted I probably need to see the other 20 hours of game to get the full context. No direct plot spoilers but Ill spoiler tag anyway.

It leaves some room for continuing adventures and DLC but it seems like a totally stand alone story. Kind of like the Dragon Age games. No big cliff hanger.

It forces the viewer to draw a completely different line of expectations in relation to an ending that they haven't experienced, nor plan to experience until they naturally come upon it in the game itself.

It would be like if Peter Brown had not only spoiled the whole gameplay bit of the Nier ending, and had gone onto say "But it's shit, controls badly and doesn't really cohere with the story at all". It's just a opinion, yeah, but he would have radically altered expectations on the part of the viewers who hadn't yet gotten to that part. It's far less of a "surprise" when you're not only aware of the ending narrative, but of the perceived quality of that narrative.

edit: And it's not like I'm referring to opinions of the game in general, but specifically one of the most important parts of the game: the flippin' ending. What release review would even talk about that in any sort of detail unless it fundamentally changed the quality of the game as a whole?
