The podcasts are still good. Haven't changed. I don't go to the site as much tho. There's way less QLs and reviews and too many random science vids.
This is a barefaced lie and you know it lol. Podcast hasn't been good since WANG-era. A good Gary episode is sometimes passable. And Dadcast.

But Mr. F is right, Will and Norm together couldn't have any less chemistry/charisma even if they tried.

Probably going to rely on GAF for knowing what parts of Octoberkast to tune in to, because aside from a couple great guests/segments, last year just wasn't good - Will was over-caffeinated, Norm could barely stay away even in the first half (after spending weeks talking about his '24 hour strategy') and Gary looked like he'd rather be anywhere but there.

Still kicked in a few quid though, because it was commendable for them to do it.

Fantastic ending to that. Great riff on Brad's shame during the Volgarr stream.

Fuck, just watched it too. Hilarious.

Opinions, what do they mean? I still enjoy the podcasts a lot. They've had plenty of great discussions since the "WANG-era".

Even though this isn't the thread for it, I find the Tested podcast has wild swings in quality. The latest one with Loyd was great, and they covered interesting topics. The week before though they just had nothing good to talk about, and it ended up a garbage dump. The show definitely suffers when there's no tech or other good topic to latch to, and can't just spin bullshit like the Bombcast can.

Agree on both points. I wish they could get Brad on more often. He's always a great guest.

I wonder what was happening at Playstation HQ today... Jeff and Geoff Keighley (and probably other journalists) were there today.

Jeff tweeted about seeing Matt Kessler in his new office and also tweeted the giant move controller in the lobby lol.

From a Kotaku story:

To add some fuel to this rumor fire, today in San Francisco, Sony is holding an event to show off their PS4 games. Although DriveClub was originally part of the lineup, a Sony rep told me this afternoon that it has been removed due to a "scheduling conflict."

So basically what you'd expect. Just an event for journos to get their hands on games early.

I have zero problems with Ian on Souls. Rorie however is getting a bit too much with the "Let him do it himself", "we're here to watch you", "it'll be fun to see your reaction", "let's not tell him anything". While most of them are techincally true, hell I'm there to watch Vinny, there is no need to spell it out all the time.

Yeah Rorie needs to stop saying this. He must say it like 10 times a video, we get it already Rorie!

We get it. Ian doesn't.

"Oh, you can't go down here because you'll die, you need a ring".

You're only supposed to remind him AFTER the fact.

Some guy in chat was spamming comments about Ian being wrong with about 75% of the things he says about Dark Souls. The user was a real jerk but after watching that video - he wasn't that far off.

Who is Ian - the video guy?

Ian is a engineer for CBSi. He came with GiantBomb acquisition, along with Alexis and Dave. He's the guy responsible, among other things, for the game that shows up on the redesigned 404 Gamespot page.

He volunteered to learn the TriCaster and the video streaming portion of GiantBomb so Drew and Vinny could be part of Unprofessional Fridays.

Hes not officially a video guy, but he does video stuff in a pinch and on unprofessional fridays.

He's the third voice (the other two being Vinny and Rorie) on the "Load our last souls" videos.

I really like Ian. I remember when he was just a dude in the GiantBomb live Stream chats and he would come up with things like the "this show has been going for x minutes" counter and some twitter interaction, and he was just a regular user. Eventually he got hired by whiskey media. Pretty cool guy!

Small correction. I believe he joined after the CBS buy out. Dave was staffing up for the redesign and was advertising the job on twitter.

Wasn't Ian a mod on Tested too before that?

I do find his manner a bit annoying, he comes across a bit smug - even if it just seems that way. He certainly appears to be well liked by his colleagues. Besides he is only like 22 or something, with little on mic/camera experience, so I cut him some slack. I really hated both Jeff and Ryan when I first saw them on Gamespot.

Hmm... maybe. I'm pretty sure he was in the whiskey offices a little bit. Maybe it was just before the acquisition, but maybe I'm also wrong.

Either way, the story still stands: He was a fan of the site, became a moderator, created some scripting for them, got hired, living the dream.

Anonymous asked: IGN reviews guy Dan Stapleton did a reddit AMA yesterday. Someone asked when he thought the first next gen reviews would show up and he responded by saying AC4 and BF4 by the end of October. Are you guys getting PS4s that early also? You are already playing one aren't you?

We were not invited to go play next-gen versions of AC4 ahead of release.

Welp, Ubi and the trust in their products.

Jeff is streaming again btw. Looks like he only put a notice on his tumblr this time.

QL of Nuclear Throne was pretty fun. Wish I wasn't more or less unemployed at the moment and could grab it from Steam. I do wish on Quicklooks they would controller (or in this case mouse+kb) swap sometimes. I would have liked to see Vinny try his hand at it.

Yeah the game looks cool, but I'll wait for the finished version on PS4. I bought into early access of Prison Architect (which at this point is fun to play) but I don#t think I will ever do that again.

Same here. Really excited to get that game on my Vita. It's announced for Vita right?

I am not 100% but I thought he was part of this hire.

A quick scrub though ians forum posts shows him mostly replying to bug reports for the last 8 months which lines up time wise. I think he was still in school when it was whiskey.

Can't wait for October to be over so that Patrick can go back to talk about video games instead of only talking about horror movies all day.

I just got tired of their unashamed pro-Apple bias. They don't even pretend to hide it, even without Gary on. As a non-Apple user, it just got tiring to listen to after a while.

I thought Ian was Lt.Squigs, a forum/chat moderator who was later hired as an engineer around a year ago.

Norm dumped his iPhone for Android a while ago and hasn't had much praise for iOS since. Gary's the only Apple fanboy around there these days.

It's funny. Will doesn't really love iOS, he just hates Android. Every new iOS feature Will talks about, Norm answers with "it's better on Android", which is what me and the rest of the audience have been saying for the past two years. Gary still loves Apple unconditionally.

Unfair. He also talks about his TED talk.

Here is an early weekend-level creepy question for you to ponder. With all his respect for women and championing of such causes - do you think he still surfs for porn when the wifey is out of town or has he ascended above such base behaviour? :p

Sure. that makes the assumption that all porn is sexist.

He better be careful with his OBS scenes during Spookin lol

WNG podcasts are still always amazing. Its the WN+Guest podcasts that are pretty bad to passable (Lloyd usually is a decent guest). WN only podcasts are terrible.

Last year's Octobercast was ruined by Gary having to leave for his child (which he rightfully had to leave for). After he left I thought it lost all air.

Don't spoil my teasing with reasoning :D

Well if a statue of a zombie in a bikini is demeaning and using the term "dick wolf" is - then most porn has to be.

Ba zing.

Though there's a fundamental difference between "in bad taste" and "sexist" that I don't think the loudest proprietiers of the argument understand.

Been a slow week for content.

Why is it that writers get more work out when they aren't in the office? Are they just going to HR meetings all the time?
