The Beastie Boys are the first hip hop group in years to have something to say
I wonder if dan ever played operation winback, aka metal gear solid 64.

That game mostly sucked but I loved it back then. mp was kinda fun

I think Rorie had mentioned beating DS2 at some point, but did Brad? Can't recall.

I don't think brad ever finished it. Like zaph said I think dota consumed him/ or he wanted to finish dks1 first or something, which means he'll probably never finish either game.

As a teacher i can wholeheartedly say that this is one of the worst things you could ever say (especially when a big percentage of your audience attends high school/college) and if that's your actual attitude in your late twenties then you probably can't be helped.

Sorry. He seems like a nice guy but his attitude is so moronic

I don't think he's truthful when he says it. I've seen him ask about various stuff he doesn't know about during quick looks or other videos, so it's not as if he's trying to stay ignorant. Still a very stupid thing for him to say though.

Vinny left ? Dan did not replace Vinny.

He replaced him the san fran office, which is where all the good content comes from. Patrick didn't leave either, but he might as well have if you don't read his articles. GB is basically just video content and the podcast to myself, and I'm sure many others. Jury is still out on GB East. They need to hire people.

jesus fucking christ

if you divided that by 8 hours - the average length of a decent single player campaign - you're looking at Brad having spent 150 game's worth of play time with DOTA2. If you divide it by 6 hours - most modern campaigns are about 6 hours in length - we're talking about 200 single player campaigns worth of playtime.

I mean, more power to him for finding a game that he loves and that he's getting his unnecessary-but-hard-to-stop-himself's money's worth from it but, jeez, that doesn't leave a lot of room for much else to play. As someone working on his backlog and trying to get the most out of my increasingly-limited game time as possible, DOTA2 strikes me as the worst thing i could ever get into outside of WOW.

If you compare it to the amount of time people play a sport, it's pretty tiny.

I probably played 30 or 40 thousand hours of Basketball in my youth.

yeah, but you were getting some exercise out of that so you were not only playing a sport but also reaping some health benefits from it. I don't think you could say the same about DOTA2. Probably could say the opposite.

It doesn't make it seem much better, but playtime is really not indicative of anything in Dota 2. I had 200 hours played on my client before I even played a matchmaking game (mostly because I started watching the first international three years before I started playing). Between having the client open to wait for friends to sign on, between and after games, and just being generally indecisive the actual time playing the game is probably half of that time played. Probably closer to 500-600 hours played for Brad (30-40 minutes per game average, almost 1000 games).

Certainly not insignificant but not quite as crazy. Plus you have to take into account that it's the best game.

I really need to relisten to the bombcasts from when he started dota (2012?). The arc from curiousity and trying it on a whim into the weekly downward spiral of getting completely hooked was hilarious.

Like i said, more power to him if he's enjoying it. Just saying that i would probably feel terrible about it knowing that I could be playing 200+ experiences in that same time. The most i've ever spent with a game was almost 200 hours with MW2 when i was in college and i felt like crap about it for a while.

Similarly, I always like hearing a bombcast of when he was hooked on starcraft 2, that feels like ages ago at this point.

Like, over a couple of decades?

well, first off, I meant 20 to 30 thousand - must have had my left finger in the wrong place, but yeah, over more than a decade, less than two.

edit - a little quick napkin math of my habits comes to 18,000 hours, so I may have estimated a little high.

Why? you read the oldest first.

Because by default Twitter posts oldest on bottom, and often Twitter timelines are copied this way. So I just start reading Twitter images at the bottom.

twitter is such a mess haha

I know it's not used in web browsers when it's used, but it baffles me that a company entirely based around an internet service has such a fucking terrible website. Nine clicks or so to get to somebody's god damned profile from a single tweet link, and don't forget to log in! Fuck you. I adblocked that "HEY HEY HEY LOG IN PLEASE" box ages ago.

Or one. But yeah, the site's not the best in usability.

Caught a bit of bombing for the first time in ages, and it's a pretty good show. The chat's surprisingly good too, I might start watching it.

Also some of these reactions to Dan are straight up insane, and all this analysing and criticising of his mindset/philosophy are creepy and pretentious.

Have you guys noticed that this thread has had over a million clicks already?

The Steam thread currently has close to 800k.

The need is real.

(Also, I totally thought we were only at page 200.)

This applies to every member of GB. Dan's just the latest target.

Seems like Jeff is taking a plane almost every week-end nowadays...

Seems pretty clear to me that he is entertaining job offers, Jeff won't be with the site by next year. RIP Giantbomb

Steam threads last less than a month before they reach the page limit, notice that the latest thread was posted on August 31st and is already at page 318
