(If this isn't an okay place to post this, go ahead and nuke this post)

So I made a Giant Bomb thing. I built a new Android app I'm calling Luchadeer to watch Giant Bomb videos and browse through games from the wiki:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dforsyth.android.luchadeer

It is completely free and supports Android 4.1 and up. If the demand is there, I'll work on some backwards compatibility. Right now, the app gives you:

- Stream any Giant Bomb video to phones, tablets, or Chromecast
- Search and browse through the extensive library of games on the Giant Bomb wiki
- Receive push notifications when new videos are posted for your favourite video categories, or when the Giant Bomb chat goes live
- Save your favourite videos and games so you can always find them easily
- Download videos so you can watch them later
- Link your Giant Bomb account -- subscribers get access to all of their exclusive and HD content, normal users get off the shared rate limit.

And I've got a bunch more that I want to add.

I've also open sourced the whole thing (Android app and backend). The repositories are here:

Android app: https://github.com/dforsyth/Luchadeer
Backend: https://github.com/dforsyth/luchadeer-backend

If you try the app out and find problems with it, have a feature request, or anything like that, you can PM here, or make an issue on Github.

Also, a huge thanks to supernormalstep (on the GB forums) for giving me permission to use his work as the icon for the app.

I don't really want to spam screens here, but heres the first thing you see when you head into the app:

Nice, now you need to release it on iOS and add a "Random Quicklook" button. This is the only thing missing from Video Buddy for me.

How does Jeff/Gamespot's library not have a copy of Mario Party 2?

I imagine that if there's one console Jeff doesn't own that many games for, it's the N64. He's never been too big on that console. But yeah, it's strange if it's not in the GS library. Jeff has probably destroyed all copies of Mario Party games he could find.

Ryan was also perceived as not being very consumer friendly with a lot of his views, so I remember some of his comments on companies that were seen as doing shitty things blowing up from time to time. Not sure if that happened in any QL though, or just on Bombcasts.

As for controversial QLs, look no further than most QLs of Nintendo games where Jeff sits in :p

Oh man, the SoC QL. How could I forget.

Yeah, as much hate as Dan has gotten over the last day or so, I don't think its far from some of the meltdowns we've seen over things Jeff/Brad have said in the past. Its not at Alex or definitely not at Patrick levels of hatred. At least I don't think theres been a petition or a "NoDan" add on just yet.

Dude that's fucking awesome. I not sure what the state of the Youtube API is, but have you considered added the GB Unarchived channel as a section?

Nice, now you need to release it on iOS and add a "Random Quicklook" button. This is the only thing missing from Video Buddy for me.

Unfortunately, there probably won't be an iOS release out of me for a while (although I'd happily take one as a contribution -- I own luchadeer-project.com and it wouldn't be terrible to throw some more apps under the umbrella).

I'll add the random QL button as a feature request for a future release. It would be awesome to have.

Yeap, I was planning on asking the folks who make that if I could add them as a section but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I know they're in this thread so... please?

So, you guys probably recall the 'New Releases' show they did with GS, right? I remember after they canned that, they were thinking about a new feature to fill a weekly Wednesday spot but nothing ever materialised.

The type of feature on GB that I arguably love the most is them looking at older games whether it's retro streams or QLs of retro compilations/rereleases (obligatory "RIP Game Room"), Bombasticas, whathaveyou. I love listening to Jeff especially but now that Dan's there, he would add a lot of insight of his own. Also, older games have sparked some of the best and most infamous Bombcast discussions but they've stopped listing off new releases (which included rereleases, i.e. Nintendownloads, XBLA stuff) in the podcast a while ago, obviously.

So, I thought it'd be cool if they did something like a retro wrap-up show. And 'show' is already the wrong term since I wouldn't want any kind of editing or fancy presentation, just them going through every week's Virtual Console and PSN retro rereleases (Xbone and Steam, too, if something were to show up there) and, well, basically QL'ing those games, maybe dedicating 5-10 minutes to each one. Personally, I'd love this kind of feature and I think it'd be very entertaining.

Just spitballing here. Now that I think about it, I'd love to hear Jeff's thoughts on their current content plans. I imagine a LOT of ideas were left behind on the cutting room floor so I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they had considered a show along the lines of my pitch ages ago.

Jeff is at his best when he's talking about old games. Either just do a random retro game stream every week, or play games with release dates that correspond to the week/month of the present, but 20 years ago.

Yep, Tharp suggested this to me and I think this would work just as well, if not better.

That cold be a lot of fun. Jeff always made the Game Room quick looks entertaining, even when the games were the worst.

I'd like to see more than one regular feature at a time really. Even with Dan bringing in new ideas, the MGS series seemed to kill off WOW early (It only went for 3 weeks unless I'm remembering wrong) and the Mario Party thing is still a one-off for now.

I mean, the WoW feature was called 30 Day Trial and we got 4 weeks out of it - Dan's 30 day trial of WoW. It went on probably as long as it was always intended to. If MGS stopped anything, it was more regular Demo Derby videos.

I only remembered 3 episodes. Went back and checked, you're definitely right. Not sure if it was uneventful or if I have an episode I missed to go catch.

Is Brad and his crew of flunkies still in that Dota tournament thing?

Yep, they had a series this weekend. League of Legends is still alive.

it didn't though since the WOW video feature was always gonna be a timed thing and it ended.

the video that makes more sense is the Demo Derby one where they have done only 2 but they apparently have demo discs incoming.

Oh, and Persona 3 Portable QL is often overlooked but it was probably one of the most controversial QLs of all. Christ, the leadup to that QL and the reaction to it was a rollercoaster.
That one in particular was because it came right after the ER, so there was just some extreme hype for it and the desperate hope that they would play through P3P as a second ER. lol

I still find it weird that he just never met with the Retronauts guys, since he clearly fills some gaps that those guys can't cover due to lack of experience.

Why's Dan paying for his own computer, anyhow? Just have one of the crazies send him an entire one like they did with Patrick.

Is there a video of this ? People keep saying Alexis stole that truck but I doubt that's what happened.

I don't think there was a video. I think they mentioned on the latest UPF that it was the Octobercast weekend and Alexis was drinking a lot. I believe Drew took the picture

Alex is my Giant Bomber Of The Week™ after his performance on Bombin. Some solid responses to the Hit Based Journalism and Destiny 20+ Hours questions. Guy does not get a whole lot of credit at times, but he is right up there with Jeff when it comes to not sugarcoating things that need to be said.

Alex is great for stuff like that. I miss that weekly article series he did, his writing is usually pretty good. Too bad it's mostly relegated to reviews for sports games and a lot of stuff I just don't have any interest in.

Sometimes I think alex is the only reason I'll subcribe again (and vinny, and patrick, and sometimes even jeff). It's our only constant hope now that we are in the dumb-dumd era of GB.

alr1ght is the dude who set that up and organised the effort. Can't imagine him having issues with you parsing the channel.
