Finally watched the Metal Gear 5 video with Danny and Dan, and holy crap it looks really fun and awesome. I wonder if Dan and Drew will be done with the rest of the games by the time it comes out.

Jacob Jones seems delightful, love me some Layton/Puzzle Agent. Will have to remember to get it on Vita.

Now to finish Demo Derby. Dan's reaction when the MGS: VR Missions demo pops up is great, lol.

Edit: Wait, no Ape Escape demo? Goddamnit, Playstation Truck.

Edit 2: Drew's Pac-Man 2 voice IS great. Also, World is a fun game.

Goddamn that last Demo Derby was fucking incredible. Fast turning into my favourite feature on the site for sure.

edit: I decided to start a Youtube account where I'm gonna upload Bombcast moments, both classics that haven't been uploaded yet, and great moments from current Bombcasts (ie. the Dreamcast discussion a few episodes back or Dan's third nipple). So give me a shout if you have an example of a new or old Bombcast moment you can't find on Youtube!

At around 1:43:10 in Demo Derby, during the Blitz segment there's a player named Davis passing the ball to a player named Rudd.... sigh

Jesus christ at all the whining in the UnPro video.

They act as if Giantbomb hasn't trolled or ruined a multiplayer match before.

Oh that's you! Thank you! The youtube accounts I usually rely on for bombcast highlights have stopped posting them a while ago.

Someone should do a list for all the Musou QLs the duders have done over the years. Kinda wanna rewatch them now that I have an understanding for how those games work.

I think this is a complete list:

DW 6 Empires, Gundam 2, Gundam 3, Next, 8, 8 Xtreme Legends CE
Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate

I guess you could also count Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 1 and 2.

They never did one for Samurai Warriors or DW7, it seems.

People comparing the ARMA trolling to this DOTA thing are being silly. They're very different.

Most people have no idea what Arma mutliplayer is like. I know it's supposed to be realistic, but it looks like a shooter, and in general, shooters are not games you take as seriously. If someone was getting killed or something in CoD or Battlefield I wouldn't bat an eye, because The matches are quick and it's no big deal.

MOBAs (And team RTSes, for that matter) are different. There's an investment in a match. Yes the community CAN be dicks, but they can also be very polite. It's not that uncommon to see 2-5 minute pauses in matches of Dota while someone goes to the bathroom.

What Dan did was a dick move. Is it something to get so furious about I'd threaten to cancel my sub? No (Although I admit a petty part of me does like the idea a bit.). Is it enough to demand Dan apologize or he's removed from the staff or something? Of course not, and he won't anyway. There's nothing to be done about it so talking about it really isn't required.

But it was still a jerk thing to do.

Playing a game he's never played before and trying to figure it out as he went along is a jerk thing to do? Sure he was making smart ass comments and what not, but he seemed to genuinely be trying to figure out how to do things. Not everyone wants to be bothered to play through hours of tutorials and bot matches and study wikis like it's fucking homework.

It's just a video game, and they're intended to be fun. Dan arguably had more fun than anyone else in that match because he treated it like a video game, not a job.

No, that's just your preference speaking through. I'm sure there are people who get invested in shooters too.

Why do you think that guy went "Giantbomb is at it again"? It's certainly not because he doesn't care about it.

a) It was Dan's first game, he wouldn't have been of any help either way.
b) Let me tell you about the billion different times that a GB member quit out of a multiplayer match/basically trolled a multiplayer match/was useless in a multiplayer match on video.

I'm still trying to figure out what part of the equation is causing you and others to overreact like this, the Dan part or the Dota part.

Why is DOTA more important or serious than any other multiplayer game? Because the games take longer? It's still just a game and Dan was just playing poorly and not taking it seriously - he wasn't actively griefing.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's not like there was any money riding on the game.

No he wasn't, and it didn't remotely seem like he was.

Quoting three posts would look like a mess so I'm just going to respond in sequence.

He was not attempting to "Learn how to play." He's played MOBAs before. I've seen him play LoL. And yet, Brad had to yell at him to use his base abilities in the match. He was attempting to "Sneak into" the base, which is plainly completely impossible. I'll give you he might not have realized he was killing carriers other people were buying, but the rest I don't believe were just mistakes.

---

Mobas/RTSes are fundamentally different experiences then a shooter. Even when your entire team sucks, you can win a shooter by yourself. Teamkilling sucks but it rarely lasts for more then a minute before they get booted or something, as opposed to Dota where feeding leads to half an hour losses. I'm sure someone might disagree with me because you're right, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they really are very different and you can't compare trolling in one to the other.

---

It was Dan's first game of DOTA but not his first MOBA. There's no excuse for how completely oblivious he was to it.

Quitting a match is not the same as feeding (It would have been much better FOR him to have quit that match.) and other wrongs do not magically make it right.

And I have 0 problems with Dan before this. Maybe it's the Moba, because I do find Dan's "opinions" on MOBA's being RTSes for idiots to be mind-blowingly ignorant. Like yeah, I guess at some point he's just trolling people, but it's still just stupifys me that he can say things like that with a straight face. I don't actually play DOTA for the record.

Also for the record, I don't think Dan is stupid. I'm not trying to be that guy. I just think his opinions on the MOBA genre are based in nothing but a complete lack of knowledge and a desire to stay that way.

---

Woof, that was quite a post. Alright, I admit, this thing has gotten under my skin.

He was taking the piss for about a half hour of an unranked match of DOTA 2. Fairly evident that he wasn't really playing with the intent to get better let alone commit to the match itself. That said at the most he inconvenienced his team mates for that game alone.

The ARMA trolling was just as bad, which is to say, not as bad as people make it out to be.

Edit:
Like I said in an earlier post, it's not like there was any money riding on the game.
I had money riding on that game.

I agree with Nephrahim, Dan wasted the time of 4 other people (9 if the other team was expecting a good fight too, which is not unheard of). The reason why the Dota 2 community is so toxic is because of the investment each player has in the game (hundreds of hours of learning and playing and oodles of knowledge in addition to the 30-60 minutes allocated to playing a match and the time spent waiting in queue) and the ease of which you can fuck up the match. That's the nature of the game, it's far more team based than the usual multiplayer game, a poor player is a massive liability and drastically tanks the chance of winning unlike multiplayer FPSes where you just need to kill faster than your team is dying, and one player's performance has little impact on another (besides killing/dying), and you could always just leave the match if it's not fun and these matches last 10 minutes tops. In Dota 2 you can't quit otherwise you risk going into low-priority and play in shitty games, but the current game has turned to shit and you're still wasting time playing on or idling.

Honestly though, it comes down to my pet peeve of hating people that waste others' time. Time is fucking precious dude, don't waste it for other people.

Great idea, there haven't really been a regular uploader of bombcast moments for a while. I don't think Dan talking about meeting Riff Raff (from 08/12) is on youtube. That was pretty great, love that Riff Raff's crazy antics forced Dan to be the mature one for once in his life.

But you're talking about Dota. Dan is not the biggest thief of other's time in this equation. For Christ's sake, one must be pretty flippant about the allocation of his or her time to play the sort of game where you could still be considered a noob after 100 hours.

Just because a person spends 100 hours of their time learning to play a game does not make wasting 30+ minutes of their time learning okay.

Not to mention, every person putting an effort into the game is still learning, even the best players who win millions of dollars.

So, the upshot is that honor and shame are huge parts of Dota culture?

In all seriousness though, Brad perfectly demonstrated how to handle Dan's obvious troll attempt. At the end of theday, it's just a goddamn videogame.

It is. I admit that this is a "me" problem, but I play Dota 2 for a good match. If I (and my team) stomp the enemy, then it's about as unsatisfying as being stomped upon. Close matches are the best and most satisfying, which is why I hate trolls in Dota more so than in other games because they can ruin a match so easily.

Also I take massive issues with "they're just video games" but that's for another thread.

Understandable. I guess that's part of the reason why I don't play multiplayer games anymore. Too many factors that could potentially ruin your experience. If I play a game by myself, most of time chances are I'm gonna have a good time.

I you think that's a discussion worth having then I don't know what to tell you. Different strokes, I guess.

It wasn't funny because Dan didn't put himself into it. He had no interest in the subject matter. It was just a 20 minute long version of "you guys suck for liking this game".

Dan's DOTA match was amusing to watch but he shouldn't have done it in a public game. He could have easily made a GB community match to goof around in.

Playing online team games with strangers is a pretty draining experience at the best of times. Playing with a troll who taunts you in chat is the worst.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Here is my dirty secret: Sometimes when playing Battlefield I just feel like doing something stupid like flying around in a drone and trying to blow people up with their own mines for an entire match. I am a dirty troll and should be punished. I'm sorry, I made the internet a worse place.

Subete no aware
The DOTA thing felt like a practical joke where the victims were never made aware that they were the punchline. I think if Dan just wrote that they were live on Giantbomb before quitting, the other players would have "got it" and then laughed at what happened.

Like, this Xbox One troll video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWZLa4AnN5k
It's funny because you hear people realize that they are being trolled, not because of the actual trolling.
