A little bit LTTP, but Gray Fox taking pity on Drew was pretty hilarious...

Finally watched the Metal Gear 5 video with Danny and Dan, and holy crap it looks really fun and awesome. I wonder if Dan and Drew will be done with the rest of the games by the time it comes out.
Which video was that? I looked through a few pages in this thread and couldn't figure it out.

Huh, so what's the actual difference between ranked and unranked?

Level of play expected, mostly. Can't do it until you're level 13, as shown by when Dan tried to queue for it (although achieving that level isn't some great feat). The matchmaking might be a bit stricter as it seems like matches take a bit longer to find.

They have separate ratings. Your unranked rating, which essentially only is used to match you up with equally skilled opponents, is not visible anywhere, not even to yourself. Unranked has a few more modes to play too, which in their nature is less serious. Ranked only has the serious game modes.

Alright, that's an honestly unusual system they have there.

Which just leads me to think that brad probably should have led dan to a mode where he wouldn't be wasting people's time because to people unfamiliar with dota that would be unranked.

Dota Allstars in War3 sure was weird. They didn't have all this fancy matchmaking stuff or custom UI for different modes. The hosts would create a room that's like "Dota v6.11b APEM noobs only" and hope that only noobs join :lol

Surprisingly matches weren't too lopsided, but that could be put down to good players not being able to find other good players to train off. And then the clans would organize their own scrims if they want to a good challenge and get better.

After listening to Shawn Elliott for a few years back in his podcasting days, I guess I'm just used to people trolling others in games now.

Scoops is really getting a handle on video. This week he skips all the really hard stuff and goes straight for an attempt at director's commentary.
Edit:
I think it was a neat idea to salvage the footage. This way I still got his impressions and saw a bit of the event.
I'm a sucker for all things director's commentary so I was speaking in jest, but yeah, the footage was definitely worthwhile. I liking the relatively homespun nature of Bit Bash from what I'm seeing.
Edit Edit: Patrick should attempt a second version where he dubs in all his original dialogue as well as everyone else who speaks in that video.

Oh man, getting flashbacks to my attempt at trying to cover an event with a tripod and a camera using my fucking iPhone as a recorder... Nightmarish, and I can imagine the fear Patrick got when he realized absolutely 0 of the audio he recorded went through.

I feel like they should really hire another producer with patrick. With Vinny in new york it feels like patrick is getting left out.

That playstation demo video got me really tickled, glad I decided to re-up my membership at least month to month.

Dang at Patrick not being able to capture audio. Wouldn't have watched it anyways, but that sucks.

Perhaps but considering the content he is putting out, its not really for video.

Whats the name of the game made by you don't know jack from upf?

Jeff has said that when/if they hire another person, it would be in either New York or Chicago. And yeah, I agree.

Fibbage.

edit: I'm looking forward to the D4 QL to get an impression on what that game is. I'm up for whatever Swery puts out, I hope that guy is able to release games for years to come.

I bought 3 versions of DP, I can only hope my small contribution helped ensure this happens.

I'm not buying a XBONE for this though

Yeah, a shame that it's only on the Xbone (they probably funded the game, so it's understandable even if I would've liked a PC version). I'm gonna buy a Xbone pretty soon-ish though, and my first purchase will probably be D4.

Rather they just go all in on New York than spread themselves out over three areas. (sorry Patrick)

Totally agree. A producer in Chicago would mean mostly Patrick talking to a camera/interviews.

A third editor in NY would be godly. Alex can be great, but he needs people to bounce off (just watch the recent PC build stuff when he was alone) and Vinny could be part of content and produce when needed.

Cara pls.

Definitely agree with this. Alex and Vinny is a great combo but it'd be nice to see it start to have its own fully formed crew like GBWest. I'd be fine if Patrick just continued to do his thing in Chicago, writing articles and occasionally playing scary games.

She's already making a zillion dollars writing random crap, why join GB?

I don't think that's true at all. Between her Patreon and freelancing, she's mentioned she lives month to month, but that's without an actual home (she crashes with other industry folk a lot). Plus, she applied for the SF job.

I doubt any freelancers in the industry make good money. Or even mediocre money. The written word is a race to the bottom.

Living without a home is terrifying to me.

I'm not sure they could ever hire Cara. If what Danny has said is anything to go by, it was an incredibly long and difficult process to get his visa. Considering it took so long for GB to get the green light on two new hires, it would probably be a hard sell to convince CBSi to undertake that effort anytime soon. I think Gamespot/CBSi was only willing to do it for Danny because, well, he's Danny.

purple-haired Cara has been roaming the TGS showfloor, seeking out otome games and taking pictures of pretty boys wrestling each other.

that's just cruel, the paddles will probably just end up in Vinny's underwear again.

I fucking LOVE this clip. Karen is the BEST

edit: "im not the most patient person..."

It's a pipe dream. US visas for professions not in demand are damn hard to come by unless the company that wants you has a good immigration lawyer. Even then it's still a 6 month process. But you can kinda speed this up with a inter-company transfer for an existing employee.

I'm looking at you GamespotUK...

Hopefully they can get another person at GBeast, since it would be perfect for shows when technical problems arise, or reducing the number of solo appearances. They have been hinting at it, so hopefully it happens. I'm not sure if that third person should be a more technical person or more editorial.

I can't count the number of times I have accidentally clicked onto a review because my mouse drifted over the "Reviews" tab while moving onto the play button of a video. There should be a little delay on bringing up the dropdown or something.
