Everyone Goldilocks-ing the GB press conference opinions and playing pretend with their Straw Men is turning this thread into hot garbage.

Have fun! See you in the morning.

What more could Sony have done to "sell" VR? Announcing titles using some of the biggest, most popular IPs in videogames seems a lot better than another slipshod on-stage demo of some pseudo-indie title.

I think it would be easier to fault them if Oculus or Valve were doing a good job of selling VR, but it seems like at some point you just have to hope that the tech sells itself on word of mouth. Stage demos and translucent visors haven't been that great.

I'm pretty sure that they meant you could play it after the conference at their kiosks.

No, most of the world outside of NA has downloaded it already. We're just slow to get it here.

Like, it fucking said "on Playstation Plus". No idea why the guys assumed it was only an E3 showfloor thing.

I just woke up for some reason. I see this is turning out as well as expected, heh. Looking forward to the archive. And yeah, no need to shit on EZA for no reason, two completely different beasts.

They raised as many questions as they answered with the incredibly vague framing around what the vr experiences entails in terms of how expansive these things will be. There's a lot of unnecessary reading between the lines going on because Sony dropped the ball with their messaging.

The subtext to me was "oops we didn't realize what a non-starter vr was going to be and have very little to show"

Well when someone is simply criticizing the fact that a company isn't doing a very good job at showing off their products constitutes being a "Debbie Downer" then yeah, you're kind of forcing it it be only one of two options if your bar is that low. You're acting like they didn't have anything good to say about the conference and the fact that they criticized anything makes them "Debbie Downers".

Are they mutually exclusive or something? The guys did seem kind of down on the conference during their post-show, I don't see what's so unreasonable about saying that.

E3 press conferences are so boring and intolerable that people actively seek out Giant Bomb to talk over them. I was kind of confused by the GB crew having a negative reaction to the process being streamlined for Sony's conference. After the deluge of phony acting and corporate grandstanding from the other pressers these past few days it was just a relief to have a conference mostly free of that.

Don't really care if they wanna dump on games. Most of these hyper scripted demos are immensely unappealing, but the format of trailer after trailer being targeted just leaves me scratching my head.

Complaining about EZA being overly enthusiastic is dangerously close to "get off my lawn" territory. Both them and GB have different tones, and that's fine. I enjoy both.

Looking forward to catching up on the GB streams for Ubi and Sony tomorrow. I was busy for much of today so tomorrow will be my "unplugging from the world and binging on E3 stuff" day.

Oh god, sorry. I can't believe I missed the "fucking" on Playstation Plus the half second it was on screen. Please forgive me.

No... It's available as a demo to PS+ folks... It's up in Japan, AUS, and EU, and about to go live in US

My bad.

Heh, probably for the best that you missed the last ~1,000 or so posts.

It would probably help if they inserted, like, any gameplay footage of their VR experiences. What they did was the absolute bare minimum effort.

Yeah it's hard to translate the appeal of VR into a video clip, but you have to try.

To be fair, I actually like Kyle Bosman and some of the other EZA guys.

I just think it'd be funny if the GB guys wore a suit next year.

At least two of those things they showed were not full games. I'm not buying a $400 headset for a 60 minute Batman experience and a one mission Star Wars game. FFXV VR looked completely tacked on. Resident Evil VII and Farpoint were the only VR games there that looked remotely interesting.

So they showed five things, including three full games, and only two of which looked good. I would have happily taken a live Rez VR demo over that Batman trailer that told me absolutely nothing about how the game functions or why I should buy a VR headset for it.

So I watched the Giant Bomb stream of the Sony conference after seeing the conference separately, and man am I glad that I skipped watching their stuff the first time. The cynicism in that room seemed contagious. Dan was the only one that seemed like he was down for any of that stuff.

Don't worry, I didn't realize that from the stream, but had to find it online... A few of the press conferences today would cut away to a wide shot during important gameplay/information so it was super easy to miss.

What? They were really in to God of War, Horizon, RE7, and some of them liked Detroit

Still without luck

I enjoy both as well, subscriber of both.

I just think people moaning GB doesn't "hype" shit the way that some do is ridiculous.

Vinnys face during all the VR stuff was priceless. As was the crews reaction to the closing of the Sony conference. I side with them, not that good of a show, outside of God of War and Horizon.

..but cry so much I wish I had some

I feel like they are actually really into this stuff and I am laughing almost the whole time watching their streams. Don't understand how people can say they are down or something. It's like people are expecting them to jump up in the air and yell at every announcement, but it's not because they don't that they are not excited, far from it.

We must have not been watching the same stream. I wouldn't call that "really" in to it outside of God of War. Then again, them being spoiled on a lot of that stuff probably helped sour that mood. So glad I avoided spoilers, because that RE7 trailer legit made my jaw drop.

Some people just want to hear OH MY GOD THIS WAS THE GREATEST CONFERENCE EVERRRRRRRRR! I'm good, though.

Did David Jaffe's game ever come out? Is that still a thing?

There was a beta for it not too long ago.

Which is ironic because Dan legitimately hated it.

If you're coming at it from the perspective of being "spoiled" or not, you're coming looking for advertisement, not critique. That's why you find them cynical.

People really see/hear what they want to.

I think what people dont understand is they are actively trying to LISTEN to what is going on.

Who has time to really react or do anything when you are trying to be quiet so you can hear what is going on.

Comments like yours are really weird as well. Did I say that they should be jumping and yelling? No, I just said that they seemed kind of down on the conference, based on the tone they used during their post show coming off as them not really feeling it. Didn't claim it was a bad thing either, just that, from what I could tell, it seems like they didn't enjoy the show, and it's not helping anyone when that is just dismissed as "what, you want them to scream and shout the whole time?". It's a perfectly reasonable observation to make.

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
This. I love Giantbomb but at times the jaded "shtick" can drag me down.

Except when there's another god damn clicker game mentioned or Overwatch is brought up.
What you consider a "jaded shtick" I consider normal as opposed to the "overly excited shtick" that seems to be the accepted standard.

Maybe I've just finally become a jaded old fart at the ripe age of mid-20s.

Bullshit. I can't remember how many times they called Horizon 'great', but it was a lot.

Why are the people that supposedly find CG trailers to be a waste of a time now in another thread fellating a glorified music video?

So E3 this year did seem to be a little bit of a step down in spectacle, but last year was SUCH a big year for everyone that this year just couldn't compete. I came away with every press conference excited about at least two things, so in my book that's a total win. I'm excited to see the floor tomorrow and try out some fun stuff, and there is always a handful of things behind closed doors that are always enjoyable too. So all in all, it was a great E3 so far. Not the best, but not the worst, not by a long shot.
