Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

All the way through the NMS chat I was like "but seriously though Palmer Luckey".

Listening to them slowly come to that realisation was fucking great and one of the most satisfying GOTY moments ever on GB.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Had no idea they did a playthrough of Shenmue, really curious to watch.

Good to see Vinny going to bat for Witcher 3 too, that category almost turned into "three old games only Jeff played in 2016..."

I'm disappointed in how they're handling it this year but Alex during the Hottest Mess segment of the podcast and the Vinny Hitman run were both great.

Yeah it's absurd that it didn't get on the list, let alone win like it should have. They've completely forgotten about the spirit of the category.

Shenmue is exactly where it belongs. in the ether. away from humanity.

Updated the OP, links to alotta things now proper looking

Lemme know if there's anything missing. Don't think GB is doing a hub this time around? I'll dig around..

They didn't do ugliest game yet.

It's a shame it's just so grungy and ugly. I like the idea behind the game, and I really like a lot of the music in the game but it's just got a really ugly and unappealing look that I don't like and makes it more of a chore to play.

Just listened to Hottest Mess on the podcast. Mad props to Alex for going to town on Palmer and not being afraid to get personal and talk about the fact that they had that guy on in a casual setting before.

I don't think anyone of them would have been afraid of speaking their opinions on it but I fucking loved that Alex made the point of "we've brought this guy in on content for our site and I feel like when we do we endorse these people".

Still without luck

It's like if David Jaffe had 3 people and no budget to make a game, and they decided to use unreal engine 2.

I wonder when these were recorded, because Vinny and Alex were there at the tail end of November to Dec. 9th. So I don't know how deep they would've gotten into Let it Die by the time these were recorded.

Yeah. They were recorded the last week of November and the first week of December, so chances are that Let it Die hadn't hit yet.

Where the hell was Let it Die?

Didn't even get a mention.

I don't think it's going to get mentioned at all, I think it had JUST come out when the podcast recording started :(

Yep, recorded before Let It Die hit. Jeff confirmed as much on Twitter.

yeah, landing on the Oculus stuff for that award was one of the most satisfying moments from the site this entire year. any other choice would be a pretender to the throne.

So awesome hearing Alex rock it during this episode, especially after coming off a relisten of 2012 where he skyped in and got countered at every turn solely for that reason. Alex rules and has always been some of the secret life blood of GB. More Alex please!

IIRC that 2012 debacle was one of the main reasons he started to fly in and be in that room.

"Best Styyyyyle" is kind of a weird category, given how hard it is to actually quantify what they're looking for there. I feel like they got too attached to the word "swagger" early on and discounted some games that have exceptional "style".

But like the "best music" category it's even more inherently subjective than other categories.

Finally sitting down and listening to today's podcast and came into this thread to post this. There was a point where NMS was a lock and good for Alex for standing up and saying "wait a minute," and getting Jeff on board. Then the avalanche of everyone agreeing with some great points that they kind of skirted around on when the stuff initially came out. Good stuff.

It's gonna be tough because now it's

Drew, Jeff, Brad for Doom.

Vinny, Jason, Dan, Alex for Overwatch.

Bolded are the stubborn motherfuckers.

Jeez, I don't know that Dan is a lock for Overwatch tbh. I could easily see him swing over to DOOM, even though Overwatch is higher on his personal list.

I'll be SHOCKED if DOOM doesn't win

I think Alex is maybe the best on the current GB staff at articulating his arguments clearly and concisely. A lot of the arguments often end up as "yeah, but [game] has [single thing]!", so it's great when Alex chimes in to defend something.
