Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Jeff is gonna go hard in the paint for Titanfall.

Oh, for sure he'll get it in there, maybe even top 5, but I don't know if it had as big of an impact for anyone else compared to him. Campaign is pretty universally regarded, sure, but it's also got the taint of the first game to contend with, and unlike 2015 where Dan would also champion Mario Maker, I don't think anyone else is gonna let it get the top spot over something like Doom or Overwatch.

Also, Brad saying 'now I know what our viewers feel like' during the Hitman segment is hilarious - as was Vinny's sheik attempts.

Jeff loves TF2 for sure but he also loves Doom... as much as like 3-4 other GB dudes love it. I will not even be remotely surprised when Doom gets GB's GOTY.

No. Listen to the Doom podcast, he was gushing over it the same way he was Mario Maker. Nothing else came close this year.

Thing is... it isn't even only Jeff this time. Several GB guys fucking love Doom. They all have their favorites but they all also like Doom. Doom will win.

top 5 from 1 to 5 is going to be Doom, Hitman, Overwatch, Titanfall 2, and The Witness

book it

I'd say that Superhot gets in over The Witness. That being said, the top five's never the fun part. The fun part is seeing the game that one dude got really into be repped hard (in this case Dan with Stardew Valley).

Jeff is the only one really fired up about Superhot while a bunch of them love The Witness and most really like Titanfall 2. Every one of them love Doom and Hitman, and I think everyone except Jeff and maybe Brad loves Overwatch.

These Goty deliberations made me realize this is the perfect opportunity to build some Gunpla.

Excited for part two tomorrow.

Alex "I just wanted to make sure this game got recognized" Navarro has never influenced anything.

Pulled this from really early in the thread, so a bit unfair, but: Alex drove the discussion on hottest mess all the way from "this doesn't really deserve to make the shortlist" to "no, absolutely, this wins." Alex might not win many fights, but he absolutely won the one that counted.

Thanks, Alex. It might not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm glad not everyone forgot about that particular hot fucking mess.

Jesus, Vinny lives the "make your own damned luck" life. He just breaks the AI by plowing ahead in ways the programmers would not have imagined.

I kind of wish Dan had played older Harvest Moon games, or at least knew more about how they've been recently, because his whole stance of "I've never played them, that's why I like Stardew Valley" is completely missing a part of why SDV is so amazing.

It isn't that Stardew Valley is "another one of those." It's actually the opposite: it's a rapturously good game, quite unlike recent Harvest Moons. It harkens back to some favourite entries and improves on them in a myriad of ways. And all of this is made even more impressive because one guy is behind it all.

When he said it out-Harvest Moon'd Harvest Moon, he was absolutely right.

No open world game is ready for the Caravella Control method.

Heck, he could probably break Rockstar's games if given a chance.

Having just gotten around ten hours or so into Watch Dawgs 2, it sort of operates in the same place as Life is Strange. It's at first pretty cringe-inducing (especially dialogue), but it all comes from a heartfelt place and I eventually just let it envelop me.

I never thought I would like a character wearing a punk emoji-eye mask, but here I am, much like Life is Strange had a character that effectively said "I was pretty beta, but now I'm feeling like an alpha!" Like, Jesus, but I'm in.

See your problem is that you liked warren.

Amazed that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE lasted that long in the style discussion. I assumed it would be cut immediately because no one had played it. At least Alex (who DID play it--that was unexpected) was there to give it a good eulogy.

Makes me wonder if Persona 5 will stand next year. Playing the JPN version right now and the sense of style/coherence is still kinda unmatched imo. It resembles older entries in the series though, but when a JRPG in 2016 makes me enjoy the post battle scoring scenes, you're doing something right.

Hopefully most of the crew will play P5, just to have a good discussion around it. TMS #FE was basically a Persona-like game in all but name, but since not a lot of people played it, the discussion was kinda hum.

Very nice first cast. Watched the video, which felt weird but cool to see after all these years. It always looks different in your head.

Gonna go with podcasts for the rest, although I hope the crew summarizes the lists ever so often. Felt that they did that less now compared to earlier years since there is a video feed, but that could be my imagination. Not hard to follow along the cutting process anyway

Yeah, I dunno. I think Persona 5's got a few advantages: it's not a Wii U game, which I think will give it a better shot of landing in GB consoles; it's a lot more anticipated than TMS#FE ever was, and will sell an order of magnitude more copies; and Persona 4 is a big part of Giant Bomb history so I want to believe that more than just one person will play P5.

On the other hand, the only reason the P4 Endurance Run exists is because Jeff and Vinny were all "we really want to play this game but when the hell will we ever have time to play it unless we film it for work?" And clearly that's not going to happen a second time.

Watching the duders play Hitman, while hilarious, is absolutely infuriating. They have poor understandings of the systems at play and there are a dozen better ways of trying to do any given thing they attempt.
