Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Yeah, I don't think TF2 will go far. Only Jeff and Dan really got into it, and even then Dan fell off. Jeff cannot and will not fight for both Doom and TF2.

I really doubt that Jeff will have to fight for Doom at all. TF2 has an underdog factor that I think will play well in its favor -- people that didn't play it will just want to reward overlooked gems sometimes, and won't go toe-to-toe with Jeff.

Hitman is going to put up a huge fight for 1st spot, even over doom. We'll have to see, tho~

I really enjoyed last year and Austin Walker's enthusiastic plea for Invisible Inc. Shame he won't be around this year.

Yeah. I was hoping that he would've taken down the Witness since he disliked it(According to beastcasts around time of release) and man that would've been great to see.

Alex Navarro will defend it on the basis of the Foundation Update and the Creative Mode that takes away the agonizing survival elements. Then he will deftly shift into bashing some other game and suddenly No Man's Sky will be off the table since most of the GB crew never seemed that excited about it anyway.

Brad was certainly excited about it. I remember hearing Brad breathlessly repeat every little thing Sean Murray said as if it was gospel truth. It always took Jeff stepping in to say "if it comes together" to bring Brad back to earth.

Does Jeff really fight that hard over that top slot for his favorites? It seems like that always goes to the "Yeah, everybody kind of liked this game pretty well" title. By that point everyone is so worn down that they'll actually just go with whatever consensus exists. Which is why we somehow got Shadow of Mordor as GOTY.

Did you see what happened with Mario Maker?

Everyone liked it but a decent chunk of the table wasnt 100% on board with #1.

the witness deservedly makes top 5 I'm willing to bet my premium subscription on it

Hope pokemon gets brought up at one point or another. Most likely popplio best new character as a joke

Hm. I think there will be fights this year. Doom has Jeffs favor like no other game, not even TF2 matches it this year. Hitman however, has enchanted Dan, Brad, and Vinny. Not to mention that Overwatch has Alex's, Vinny's, and Dans favor. It's a 3 way battle. After what happened last year, I don't think vinny will back off for Overwatch. And over all the enjoyment Brad and Dan has had over Hitman, means Doom isn't such a lock.

I cannot read TF2 and accept it as Titanfall 2, I'm sorry

I don't know if you know but TF2 had a great winter update. It's going to win.

I love to hear an argument over The Witness. I purchased that game which I purchased wholly on the basis of Giant Bomb's enthusiasm ("If it can win over these cynical dudes, it must be great!"). Then after 4-5 hours of The Witness I was pretty much bored with it.

I don't think anyone else on staff was really critical of the game, though. I'm sure someone will play devil's advocate against it at some point, if only because it's pitted against a game they like.

Brad, Jeff, and Dan are the hard influences who push their votes. All 3 of them liked Hitman. All 3 liked Doom. Vinny will probably swing to Hitman so I think that might win it.

I think:

1. Hitman
2. Titanfall 2
3. Doom

Titanfall getting a last moment bump up after Jeff pushes it over Doom with support by Dan and Brad finally concedes after heavy resistance. Then Jeff will start questioning "But what if Titanfall 2 was above Hitman?" and Brad will cut him off going "No way, fuck off. No way is Titanfall 2 getting higher than Hitman". And that's how it'll stay.

I love this because it's totally possible.

2014 was just a dark year and no one felt strong about anything except whether or not Destiny should/shouldnt be on the list. Last year he def fought hard for Mario Maker.

I think it comes down to Brad. He loves Hitman, but he also loved Doom. If Jeff and Brad are on the same side then thats a wrap.

y'all should be ashamed
I completely forgot about Gears 4. Honestly that was such a tepid launch that I doubt it'll make the top 10. Maybe the same goes for Uncharted 4.

Guys I'm going to go out on a limb with some predictions

-Alex brings up a game just to mention it
-Jeff decides that a discussion or decision is over without it actually happening
-Brad quadruples down on some point as if it's religious dogma and then three days later uses the directly opposing argument when it's convenient
-Vinny concedes a point when he was making the most sense, just to be nice
-Jeff dismisses some beloved game out of hand because it didn't appeal to his tastes, acts befuddled that other people are nominating it and tries to shut it down and move on as fast as possible
-A category ends with an inexplicable "I have to listen to this to hear how they hell they decided this" decision because nobody can agree on what the category actually means, or they arbitrarily decide that it means something different this year because ???
-Brad goes "Oh come on" and basically argues that he's entitled to one category win because someone else was happy with an outcome
-Jeff gets a game in a prime spot on the list that only he cares about and nobody really argues against it
-Most Disappointing Game once again devolves into a semantics battle of whether a game is bad or whether it's just disappointing or whether that matters this year, as well as someone arguing that they personally weren't excited for it so it can't be disappointing - the final result is baffling
-Brad's arguments for or against a game begin to get so heated that he starts exaggerating claims to the point of pure falsehoods
-Someone introduces a joke category purely for a single thing they wanted to recognize
-Drew speaks up once to say his piece and then disappears into the background

I just never really got the sense that Jeff is that emotional about seeing his favorite game clock in an #1, so long as it's represented in the Top 4-5. If he likes or respects the other contenders in the Top 3, he will probably yield in the face of numerous opposition. I can't imagine him fighting that hard against the likes of Hitman and Overwatch, but we shall see. If they were trying to push something like Shenmue to #1, then yeah obviously that would be quite a showdown.

All you have to do is come up with about 12 more ridiculously common situations, and we can all play Giant Bomb GOTY Bingo. I might add "Best New IP goes to game that may not actually be new IP" (aka the Mordor Clause).

I'd have to see the list of nominees for Most Disappointing before I can really be sure we'll get an extended argument about what it actually means to be Most Disappointing (quality vs. expectations).

I might be missing some context here, but if I recall correctly Jeff was the biggest reason Mario Maker won last year right? He pretty much refused to back down. It's been a while since I listened to last year's goty podcasts so I could be misremembering.

Yeah, he railed against Rocket League and MGSV hard to get Mario Maker 1st.

you forgot the part where they (usually Vinny) needlessly reminds everyone that the games they are talking about are all good even though they have to say something bad about them

-An entire podcast goes by where Jason offers no real opinion on anything being discussed
-A game being "another one of those" will be used as an excuse to cut it from a list

Is there any reality where NMS isn't a lock for most disappointing?

GOTY list is boring. How about the other days!

I'm going with "PC versions of games sucking balls" as Please Stop and Furi as best OST.

We live in a timeline where Watch Dogs 1 was considered a bigger disappointment than Destiny because its reveal trailer had shiny graphics, and some obscure licensed toy game that's a a sequel to some other game I've never heard of was 2015's most disappointing, because it's not fair to say Bethesda should make good games.

My bet on best OST:
1) Furi
2) DOOM
3) Brigador (if only Austin were still here)

Brigador and va11 hall-a deserve to be mentioned at least. AT LEAST

Titanfall won't make it that high. You forget that Dan and Bianca played Overwatch literally every night for months as well. I bet he pushes for it hard which gets support from Vinnie and Brad will push for it due to how much the 'world' loved it as well. It won't win, but even Jeff can't shit on it when he enjoyed it and actively doesn't enjoy the type of game that it is.

None of them were hyped for NMS. SF5 will be a strong contender due to Jeff and Jason.

I think biggest disappointment is another Jeff fillabuster.

Dude though Street Fighter V was going to be some break out megahit that would open the FGC up to the mainstream and has been really bummed about it since release.

Jason might tag along too.

I dont think enough people on there really cared about NMS one way or another and will just take the backlash to that game as The Internet being The Internet.

You have a way with words EmCee.

More Day 1-4 speculation!

Best Multiplayer: Titanfall 2
Best Debut: Overwatch
Best Looking Game: Abzu
Least Necessary HD Remaster: Bioshock Collection
2016's Old Game of the Year: Final Fantasy 6
Best Styyyyyle: Superhot
Best Story: Uncharted 4

I want Vinny to Flower The Last Guardian.

It took me a solid five mintues to remember the game he's referring to...

Austin, how did Bethesda brainwash you so?!

No Man's Sky will be saved from Most Disappointing because it's a small-team indie game. The narrative will be that if you expected greatness out of it, that was just you getting caught up in the hype and projecting too many of your own hopes and dreams on a project that was never really defined in terms of depth or scope.

Street Fighter V on the other hand, was a major release in a storied franchise with a publisher capable of spending millions of dollars, backed by Sony money. For them to deliver a half-finished final product was unexpected and a ridiculously gross underestimation of what the general public would accept from a $60 AAA fighting game.

I think the only way to counter the argument against SFV would be to point out that NMS was $60 as well, so in some sense it wasn't unreasonable to expect it to have the depth and breadth of a true AAA game.

Sneaking in Titanfall 2 into the top 3 while he misdirects everyone with doom vs overwatch vs hitman is totally a thing Jeff would do, Alex is the only hope, he is the only one who can see through Jeff's ploys.
But neither Doom nor Overwatch will be able to survive the Brad-Dan-Vinny Hitman combo

I hope it isn't Hitman. I admire what they did with the level design but the voice acting just completely killed the game for me.

Between Doom and Titanfall I have to root for the latter just because of the amazing multiplayer. I just wish there were more people playing.

Yeah, I can definitely see Jeff talking everyone into picking SFV for most disappointing.

Nobody gives enough of a fuck about NMS either way to argue it heavily.

That whole fallout 4 most disappointing argument got heated as fuck. First time I've seen jeff legit stonewall a pick and not want to budge. No way did fallout deserve to get off the hook.

Least Necessary HD Remaster: Bioshock Collection

The Bioshock games are all classics that ought to be playable on current gen machines, and overlooked content like Minerva's Den deserves a new audience.

The Marvel Ultimate Alliance remasters seem like a more likely winner, since they were fucked from Day 1 and not that great to start with. Runner-ups will be Arkham and Assassin's Creed 2, since it sounds like they did little if anything to improve on the predecessors.

Street Fighter V

Depends on if they go full on semantics bullshit like last year with Fallout 4

Can't remember what was more shocking Austin going in with Brad on fallout or dans heel turn on mgs 5 in the final hour and picking Mario maker

I think the dan pick
