Day One patches and large patches in general suck ass.

Jeff/Alex vs Brad/Vinny is GO!

Jason and Dan are kinda just watching the whole thing. heh

It's kind of like the digital future vs physical games. I know we are heading towards our digital future, but massive patches day one to get around the issues of releasing a physical disc does need to stop. The issue is with passing cert, which shouldn't be anywhere near the nightmare it currently is.

I don't disagree with that, I just think that the wording is kind of all over the place. Like what does a "remaster" even mean anymore, you know? I just wish more people would differentiate the efforts that went into them, is all.

I'm not sure about the Crash N. Sane package, but I tend to think going from PS1 to PS4 probably means it'll be a remake.

Not sure I like the video for deliberations, at least with audio I can only imagine Dan looking depressed during his silent stints, now we all witness it in 720 resolution.

Exploitative blind loot boxes
should've totally been a runner up for Please Stop. That shit's awful and they seem very vitriolic about it in the discussion. I haven't finished listening, but so far it's really going to be hard to top in sheer annoyance.
Listening to this category now and when I heard the initial list I thought that would be a lock for the winner, really surprised it doesn't even make runner up.

Dan and Panzer are so cute and good.

There was so much good stuff in 100ft Robot Golf, that game deserved to come out better. It was just a little too obvious that two people made it on a shoestring budget.

GOTY stuff is always more fun when there aren't any games I'm emotionally invested in, lol. 2016 was a great year for games but I'm not getting occasionally annoyed during the deliberations like I did when stuff like Undertale or Life is Strange came up last year.

Ditto, I enjoyed a lot of games this year but there's nothing I will die on a hill for this year.

It's even better when everything you love is winning 😍

e: Brad's list is super interesting.

Hitman not even in brads top 3

ITS OVER

I get the feeling this years GOTY is going to be one of those things they regret like when Skyrim won over Saints Row or when Uncharted 2 beat Arkham

I don't think it's just the size of the patches but the speed of the networks, if PSN and XBL were as fast as Steam I really wouldn't be that fussed.

On Doom and the Best Looking/Style categories it's in:
It's really irritating they separate these two categories and then it practically wins both(I know it was runner up). I suppose it will be winning best moment and GOTY as well on the strength of the opening. It doesn't really stand out for style OR graphics. Especially not over Bound/Abzu/Firewatch etc...games who are defined by their art. I thought those categories were supposed to help other games stand out?

I dunno, I definitely dig its style. Hell, heavy metal, demons, giving no fucks, gore, over the top violence, fast pace with a rocking soundtrack. Definitely has a strong style, not sure on Best Looking though, I mean, it looks good and runs well and is smooth and all, but much like BF1 was dismissed for "it's pretty mud" it's just pretty demons and gore.

I think people need to stop looking at "Best Style" as "best art style" because it's not that, it's more of a vibe (or "swagger" as they say a few times). It's the attitude and presentation and more a "sum of its parts" than just what pictures are on screen. Style is a category where Tokyo Mirage Sessions could actually stand a chance of winning because of it's fun, upbeat, colourful J-pop world and slick menus and special attacks that are basically dances and songs but it would get ignored for best looking because it's just a fairly good looking anime game with some interesting designs but outshone by other games that are both better looking in a technical sense and have more unique and interesting looking characters and worlds.

Updated top 10 based on math:

1. Doom
2. Hitman
3. Overwatch
4. Inside
5. Superhot
6. Picross 3D: Round 2
7. Overcooked!
8. Stardew Valley
9. Titanfall 2
10. The Witness

I think this list looks very realistic, but
The Witness
will be higher and
Overcooked!
will barely make it in.

He should at least be surprised by the amount of "Fan Art"

Switch Titanfall 2 and superhot, and possibly shuffle it with inside. I think 2 and 3 could swap but I don't know if Alex has that fight in him. He's been feisty this year.

Eh, if i don't pay attention to a game, i'll be surprised by it.

There is some merit to the argument that a blizzard can't really be "surprisingly good". At least on the level of biggest surprise of the year.

I think the thing about day one patches is they are fine up to a point. If iot's small and just bug fixes then that is great! Fix those minor bugs that slipped out with the game, patch those little things that were caught after, tweak and balance some stuff that on hindsight wasn't up to your standards. Don't give us 10GB of new dialouge and movies and text and missions and shit that should've been in the game from the start. Yeah, it sucks when the publishers force you to ship before you want and I understand that now most of the time you need to keep working on the game after the disc is printed. But just stop.

Look at how it was before this gen/latter half of last gen. Back to when games were finished on the disk (for the vast majority). Yes, there were games that had bugs and other issues that you would have liked to fix but the games were done. The ability to patch games should be used to patch those issues, to fix those bugs that you wouldn't have had a chance to before, to tweak and balance the game post release to make it as good as it can be, to ADD new stuff to increase the lifespan of the game, NOT to finish it. Imagine if something like FFXV was finished and shipped complete and then the post release stuff was all fixing bugs, adding new content and tweaking the game (in the "oh, we didn't realise this shit chapter we made was shit" and "oh, people want character development?" way).

Your #9 will be a fair bit higher than that!

I wonder what their GOTY will be. Hard to say at this point. It's anyone's race
Skyrim Remastered!

I would be overjoyed if

actually made it onto their list.
