2014 was a pretty terrible year for video games.
Like every single publisher was caught off guard by the fact people actually wanted to buy consoles and games on those consoles.
but somehow, Wolfenstein still missed the top 10.

I wonder if Deus Ex will be mentioned at all before awards end.
I'm in the privileged position of having fast-ass internet (and fast ass-internet) so patches haven't been the slightest concern in so long. Also I get all my games digitally.
And it was Drew's number 1 game. lolbut somehow, Wolfenstein still missed the top 10.
Jeff's gonna betray Brad on DOOM during the GOTY segment. I can feel it.
You also bought all of the VR crap. You're the 1%. You don't count.
Overcooked looks like an amazing game. I wish I had three other people to play with.
Deus Ex is seriously getting overlooked this awards season, it's a real damn shame![]()
How Can it be bad when doom is game of the generation?Doom potentially winning GOTY would be worse than Mordor.

I've actually been super disappointed that it hasn't appeared once, IIRC, on any guest lists. I get that the game kinda came and went with a whimper other than some (unearned) negative buzz about this super dense and extremely replayable 35-40 hour game being "unfinished" somehow because it ends with a sequel hook or having microtransactions that the game doesn't encourage at all (and some earned negative buzz about the racism analogy being half-baked and forced), but it was the game other than Overwatch that I spent the most time utterly engrossed with. The level design and gameplay was sublime, the music and art direction was fantastic, and even if the main narrative felt like the first act of a bigger story, the tiny narratives told through the environments and sidequests were the best in the entire series.
The Overcooked vid is a ton of chaotic fun, not to be missed.
It is. It works as a 2 player game as well, I sometimes wish it had online co-op but the game is made for local and it should probably stay that way.
I liked the game quite a bit, but it still felt limited in how boring the open world felt. It's a shame since I did a no kill run which was exciting to me. It's a decent game, but there are a lot of great games coming this year.Deus Ex is seriously getting overlooked this awards season, it's a real damn shame![]()

Mordor was cool and worthwhile but yeah, remember when everyone thought the nemesis system was going to be A Thing that other games would take and run with?
lol oops

Mine is the only one that mattersAlong with the other games that people claim that their game is the game of the generation.
Why do people think doom is not Jeffs #1?

I can't vibe with the Best New Character category. Way, way too wishy washy, and I'm not ever sure why Trico or that Witcher 3 guy were even considered.
No, no. It's getting exactly how many nominations/awards it deserves.Deus Ex is seriously getting overlooked this awards season, it's a real damn shame![]()
Vlodimir is a legitimately fantastic character, the best out of that list of nominees. The only reason he shouldn't have been considered is that DLC doesn't come out in 2016. It wasn't even late 2015 either, Heart of Stone was an October release.I can't vibe with the Best New Character category. I still not believe the choices that they picked for Best New Character. Trico I get but the others are weird.
Trico is the only character in videogames ever that feel like an actual thing and not badly written constructs.
I agree with you, I just thought it wouldn't qualify for these awards because it came out so late. That was the impression I got from an earlier podcast where it was suggested that both FFXV and TLG were past the cutoff, and Jeff kinda shrugged his shoulders like, "yeah, whatever." And they probably should be, because at the time of recording their deliberations nobody has substantively played either game except Alex.Trico is probably the best character out of the bunch because of his sense of place in the world and the relationship you build with him. He also has an interesting back story. Although, nobody would know that unless you play and finish TLG.

It's one of my top five, but I get why some are leaving if off. What's sad is it underperforming means there might not be another one, at least not from this current team that knows how to make them proper.
I'll say, when I hear some say the game is ~15 hours, I'm like, how? First run in MD was north of 40 hours. About the same time I put into my first two Human Revolution playthrough. The open world/hub is extraordinary for exploration.
I hope Alex goes to bat for TLG in the best soundtrack category. It deserves to be in the top 3, it'll be tough though. ABZU, DOOM, Mafia 3, Deus Ex, Stardew Valley, FFXV.etc all had good/great soundtracks.
I haven't played the game, but I have been so impressed with what I've seen of Trico. Every other traditional "character" in contention was basically competing for "least shitty character", because they're still all video game characters.
Not the witcher characters. They were fucking great. Not 2016 though.
Let's be real here, Doom will win this one. Brad will fight for this one like the others.

Actual leaked footage from tomorrow's deliberation.

Heck, even UC4 had a great soundtrack even though it was understated at times.
