Are the podcasts going up later than usual this year? I feel like I used to listen to the during x-mas

Nah, it's pretty much always been the 26th or 27th.

Hmm, weird.

Anyway, I think Jeff is totally going to force Super Hot into the top 10

It's always rubbed me the wrong way the way that they blanket warn against any spoiler, any game at any time in these.

Would it be that hard to have all the naturally spoiler awards (biggest surprise, best story, best moment etc) be put into one podcast that is clearly labeled the spoiler cast? Then, should it be appropriate to discuss something in detail that is in spoiler territory in the non-spoiler cast, you give the proverbial "fast forward 2 minutes if you don't want this spoiled" statement?

I'm glad they do these, but their approach to spoilers where likely 100% of the audience has not played all the titles is poor.

You get 100 other GB podcast per year where they don't spoil stuff. This one week is for people who want to hear games discussed in their entirety.

That shit doesn't actually mean anything. It was cool 8 years ago but maybe come up with a gimmick that doesn't cripple your entire game, or maybe come up with an intuitive UI if you are going to make us carry 2,000 different pieces of junk, or maybe get rid of the inventory limit if we are incentivized to pick stuff up all the time and then sit through some loading screens to dump it into an infinite box and stop keeping the worst aspects of RPGs while removing all the other aspects

There are solutions to the problem but Bethesda shows NO interest on improving on any of them.

Completely separate issues. Even if that was accepted as a valid point, its relevance in regards to something being disappointing only works insofar as you were expecting them this specific time for it to be fixed. Before Fallout 4, I'm not sure how many people would have put their money on Beth jank not being an element anymore.

I was thinking about whether that might make it on myself -- did Super Hot VR come out before or after they recorded? I know it was recent, and the existence of that separate game might muddle the argument for it, considering both games have pros and cons and neither version seems definitive.

Guys I'm going to go out on a limb with some predictions

-Alex brings up a game just to mention it
-Jeff decides that a discussion or decision is over without it actually happening
-Brad quadruples down on some point as if it's religious dogma and then three days later uses the directly opposing argument when it's convenient
-Vinny concedes a point when he was making the most sense, just to be nice
-Jeff dismisses some beloved game out of hand because it didn't appeal to his tastes, acts befuddled that other people are nominating it and tries to shut it down and move on as fast as possible
-A category ends with an inexplicable "I have to listen to this to hear how they hell they decided this" decision because nobody can agree on what the category actually means, or they arbitrarily decide that it means something different this year because ???
-Brad goes "Oh come on" and basically argues that he's entitled to one category win because someone else was happy with an outcome
-Jeff gets a game in a prime spot on the list that only he cares about and nobody really argues against it
-Most Disappointing Game once again devolves into a semantics battle of whether a game is bad or whether it's just disappointing or whether that matters this year, as well as someone arguing that they personally weren't excited for it so it can't be disappointing - the final result is baffling
-Brad's arguments for or against a game begin to get so heated that he starts exaggerating claims to the point of pure falsehoods
-Someone introduces a joke category purely for a single thing they wanted to recognize
-Drew speaks up once to say his piece and then disappears into the background

This is so spot on haha.
I love it though.

My head is telling me DOOM, but my heart says Hitman.

Ahh, the hell with it.

1. Hitman
2. DOOM
3. Titanfall 2
4. Overwatch
5. The Witness
6. Gears of War 4
7. Stardew Valley
8. Thumper
9. Inside
10. Uncharted 4; A Thief's End

Other predictions!

Old Game of the Year: The Witcher 3
Best New Character: Popplio
Biggest Disappointment: Street Fighter V
Hottest Mess: No Man's Sky
Please Stop: Power-ups and consumables printed on cans of soda
Best Surprise: DOOM
Worst Game: Box Maker
Best Moment or Sequence: DOOM's opening through to the title card.
Best Looking Game: The Witness
Best Story: Inside

Anybody got a game in mind that you'll be playing while listening/watching the deliberations? For me it's a game within a game, Shenzen I/O's solitaire has been my go to for podcasts for the past couple weeks. It's so good.

What do y'all do while listening to the deliberations? Beyond my short commute to work, I'm thinking of playing some game I can give half of my focus to like some CRPG. Baldur's Gate, maybe?

EDIT: Damn it, Stoze

Going to be playing FFXV(only game left to beat before I make my top 10). However, I'm going to have the video up so I could pause the game and look over when the discussion gets heated.

Hehe. I would think ARPGs are better for listening but I'm not the greatest at multitasking.

I've also been playing Typing of the Dead Overkill, that might work pretty well.

Doom is guaranteed #1. Hitman very very likely #2 and Titanfall 2 will make the top 5 because Jeff. Overwatch is a wild card, could place anywhere between #3-10 and Uncharted 4 might not even make it.

Listen to it properly. I never understand listening to Podcasts while doing something else, I can't focus.

I ussually listen to it while washing the dishes, travelling or chore work, but now playing a game or watching a movie.

There are games where you could play them on mute. RPGs or survival games I feel are the best at that.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Overwatch: Dan, Jason, Vinny and Alex

Doom: Brad

Titanfall 2: Jeff

Drew: No idea

Overall: Overwatch, Doom and Hitman

No way Overwatch will win. It'll be lucky if it's in the Top 3. Calling it now.

I bought a couple of games during the Steam Sale purely because they look like good podcast games. I usually prefer Plattformers tho, too much reading in RPGs

It is very rare for me to not listen to a podcast while playing video games. For stuff like Mass Effect or Uncharted maybe. Everything else is fair podcast listening game.

I'm sure they will pick Doom, like pretty much everyone on the west coast loved it and Alex liked it as well. Hitman will be #2, Overwatch would be out of the top 5 in my opinion and I hope the witness is in the top 10, hopefully top 5 at least, but if it is I don't think inside is because there will be room for only one of those in the top 5.

Anyway, I am sure the podcasts will be great.

The doom/hitman/Titanfall 2/ overwatch fight will be fun.

I don't know who is championing overwatch though. I think it will be lower than most other sites.

I hope Titanfall 2 can make it to the top because it seems to be the one most of the crew enjoyed the most universally.

Let it die will squeak in there too maybe.

Not without Jeff. And Jeff doesn't give a fuck about Overwatch.
Imagine trying to break down a wall by throwing pieces of paper at it. And if you acutally manage to break it down there is a bigger, even stronger wall behind it.

Biggest surprise will be a fun one. Also the first clash of Hitman and Doom.

I find it really hard to game and podcast at the same time. So I usually just lie in bed, and stare at the ceiling for an hour listening to a podcast before I go to sleep. It's super therapeutic and means the podcast lasts me a couple of nights.

You can dislike it all you like, but it's still happening. It's got to the point where Jason wouldn't argue against it, and none of them were excited enough for NMS to go for it.
Jason: "The disappointing things are all things I don't care about and I'm the only person who cares about the game anyway but I'm not going to argue about it. Anime you guys."

Either that or hottest mess. I'd say hottest mess.

What other dissapointments have there been this year? Mario Maker 3DS?

SFV is THE hottest mess of 2016. I agree 100%. Capcom didn't even manage to introduce their own economy with a F2P hard currency. But it's not disappointing because there wasn't a dumb Arcade Mode nobody cares about or a dumb cinematic Story mode people have already forgotten exists.

Can't wait for Brad to claim that Doom is hot garbage and no one show play it like he did last year with SMM.

I wonder if there will be anything as embarrassing as Brad and Austin defending Fallout 4's brokenness this year. Love both of them but that was just silly. Going to miss Austin this year, especially because it'll mean no Stellaris representation.

Also Hitman is definitely making the top 3 and Street Fighter V will (rightfully) be most disappointing.

I guess most disappointing game will be a battle between No Man's Sky and Street Fighter V.
Was anyone at GB expecting more from NMS other than Brad? I think the Jeff/Jason Street Fighter conglomerate can be victorious.

Zojirushi

With all the internet hate mob stuff surrounding it there's no way NMS isn't both hottest mess and most disappointing game of the year.

NMS will certainly come up in the discussion. Not sure if it will win though. I feel like their expectations were in check before release.
