Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Dan has no debate skills at all. He just can't hang with the others.

I just think Dan generally doesn't care enough to fight for anything. Most of the other guys are the same way. Alex has very particular things he will go to bat for (and usually ends up losing because he's the only one who played it) but Jeff and Brad are the only ones that actually take The Lists very seriously.

As someone who likes Limbo but hasn't played Inside, do I need to pick this game up? Hearing the argument for Inside over the Titanfall 2 moment (which I'm glad Jeff fought so hard for) makes me think I really need to check it out.
Absolutely. I liked Limbo but didn't fall in love with it the way many did. INSIDE, however, is masterful work from a team that took what they did with their first game and refined it to near perfection. It's worth it.

Cant believe Forza Horizon 3 did not get more recognition for its music. Then again I doubt any of them actually put more than an hour in it to really hear much of the music.
Forza Horizon 3 needs more recognition period.

Aaaaaand they chose the wrong Titanfall 2 moment, lol

Yep. Just played through from Effect and Cause to the end, and while the SERE kit is awesome (especially the first time through), press q to
time travel
and how the level unfolded after that point definitely was the highlight.

I just think the game is boring and I don't understand the praise it gets. It's just another Rockstar game with interesting characters and a pretty world. The missions are still bad, the controlls are sluggish and the game itself could be so much tighter/better. I also think Western as a genre is super boring but that's neither here or there. Just personal preference.

It's well beyond what Rockstar has done written wise in all other games. There are maybe over 20 characters I felt I knew and cared about after playing the game. The tone/atmosphere are also so good I would just sit on my horse by a cliffside and let the music and scenery wash over me.

I like playing as Mei and using ice walls to block D.Va's blast. Or in between Roadhog and the sap he hooked to cancel it. People on the other team get real upset at Mei.

Regularly listening to the bombcast, I disagree. Even in trying to defend something that doesn't need defending, like Majora's Mask, he's not that skilled at making a convincing case.

Too bad like every rockstar game the missions are boring as shit.

I think Alex and maybe Jason are the two people that are willing to give other games a chance or at least give them a nod.

I always really appreciate Alex's quick "I know this won't hang, but I still want to mention it" interjections. He seems to go outside the mainstream more than any of the other duders and it's always great to hear about games that might otherwise get overlooked.

P.S. Thumper was robbed

Also, Mario Galaxy 2 is the best game of all time. *brofist*
If you think the Western genre is boring then there's not much areas Red Dead could improve on to convince you.

I feel like Jeff's insistence to ding a game for having a bad component is some subconscious carryover from the GameSpot review days where a low score in one of a game's categories would affect the final score.

What does it matter if a game has a crappy multiplayer component if the singleplayer is worth the price of admission and more enjoyable than the entirety of a different game?

He talked about Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE in a few shout outs, which I didn't expect to see.

pls Dan

It's a great game, but...

It's a great game!

Excluding Max Payne 3.

But if the "but" isn't part of the game they care about and if the great game part is better than the other great game then I think it shouldn't matter.

So is there an overall message to Inside.

Or is it just themes for themes sake.

Because that's what it feels like to me just hearing and reading about it.

Sort of hard to care when the only game you really care about gets stuffed every time you bring it up lol

fuck me that gif is perfect for MP3

now I want to reinstall it

I keep going back to it every year, nothing comes close to the satisfaction of MP3's gunplay when it comes to TPS games(well, maybe Vanquish does but in a different way). I looove the arcade mode.

Rockstar should take from the Remedy design doc more often because they make good games

Well I haven't played Quantum Break

Quantum Break has tons of potential that was mostly squandered. I enjoyed it but it wasn't that special, best thing about it is the gameplay though not the story sadly.

e: Remedy should stop putting important story bits into collectibles. It was like that with Alan Wake as well.

That's absolutely what it is, I had the same thought when I was thinking about it. It doesn't make the component of the game that you're there for any worse, so why does it matter...Unless you're summing up scores and averaging them out.

I felt like they gave lies and misinformation to Vinny about Burnout Paradise, Geometry Wars and Mass Effect 2's PC ports, poor Vinny.

Saying Doom is worse because of bad multiplayer is like arguing that a game without SP is worse than one with it or with both. What matters is if there's enough quality in there and in Dooms case there is. Multiplayer being there or not is irrelevant.

I still have a difficult time coming to terms with the fact that Rockstar allegedly are capable of making the controls, encounters, gameplay scenarios and level design necessary to make a good action game.

To me, their games are basically macho antihero simulators that take place in impressively detailed worlds with garbage controls and dull missions.

But one day I'll give MP3 a chance.

Dan couldn't save Tropical Freeze. There was no way in hell he was gonna save Stardew Valley. He's like Mumen Rider from One Punch Man. His heart is in the right place and fight the good fight but he'll never win.

"What does it matter?" If they include something in the package that's poor it's not just excused from critique because other parts of the product are good.

As much as we like to joke that it's the jeffies Jeff has been having hard losses throughout the deliberations so far.

Dan will never win a Best Music category. The whole thing already consists of people just saying "no I don't like this" and then trying to force their choice in. So now Dan is at a disadvantage since everyone just brings up Tropical Freeze and his choice instantly becomes the joke.

The moment they fought over for Inside isn't even my favorite sequence in Inside.

The shockwave area is. For a long time you are wondering what that noise and shaking is, and you walk outside to see shockwaves going off. The sound/music combo there is amazing, and the first time you die there you wont forget it.

It's fine to call shit out for being shit, especially in the context of a review, but when it comes time for awards I don't think it should be a factor.

Doom's subpar multiplayer will undoubtedly come up as a knock against the game in the discussion tomorrow but if the room thinks that the singleplayer of Doom is better than the entirety of, say, Titanfall 2 then what should it matter?

Titanfall 2 robbed, although I agree with the winner of best moment.

I've only watched the Hitman video so far, which other is most worth watching next?

Still without luck

And deservedly so.

I cannot believe Dan didn't find the thing in The Witness. Talk about playing games wrong, that might be the best example I've ever heard.
