I'm glad they mentioned Brigador in best music. I had never even heard of that game before and wow I didn't know Makeup and Vanity Set did the soundtrack. Synthpop is super overplayed but his stuff has been great for ages

Hearing Brad mention the same "its just more Uncharted, even if its better than it has been" as an excuse to dismiss it constantly while basically forgiving Fallout 4's major issues last year because he just wanted more Bethesda open world is making my eyes cross so hard.

The edges are actually cutting.

That wasn't Brad's argument. He argued that Fallout 4's problems were unfixable because of the sheer complexity of it's underlying systems, which I completely agree with.

Not within any reasonable timeframe. It would take them years upon years to trace the bugs to their sources. The systems are too intertwined and there are too many permutations of interactions.

I mean.. spending some of the massive amounts of money they make on those games and expanding the core team beyond 110 people might help. Just a thought.

There really are no more good excuses for Bethesda games running like ass anymore.

So, mass effect 2?

I still can't believe that Mass Effect 2's planet scanning is a legitimate thing that multiple people looked at and greenlit as part of the game. And I want to say they brought it back in ME3, but I've blocked the truth out now.

Like, what?

It's not in ME3 as far as I can remember.

It was really bad at launch but at least they buffed it in one of the patches. Went a LOT quicker post-patch.

You don't have to scan planets that frequently lol.

I gotta get to this Mass Effect talk.

2 was one of the gotg for the console cycle. Improved over 1 in almost everywhere except the arguably more epic narrative.

Controls, snappier combat, characters, graphics, end mission deign and loyalty quests. 2 had it all baby.

Planet scanning is somewhat in ME3 but made even simpler and used far less.

Half of those bizarre ass eavesdropping sidequests involved you sending a probe down and then magically extracting some priceless artifact or whatever from a planet besieged by Reapers, then you casually mentioned to someone on the Citadel that you happened to have their shit, and that caused those people to suddenly have the will and or motivation to help stop the apocalypse, which they were ambivalent about previously

Oh yeah, I forgot how dumb it was that all the sidequests were started by just evesdropping on people in the citadel haha

"I feel like you should move back to Kansas." Lmao.

I love stardew but that was the sickest burn of the deliberations so far.

That's another thing about ME2. Instead improving upon or fixing things that had problems they just ripped them out.

like all of the RPG and depth.

as the series went on, it doubled down on stripping out things rather than improving and expanding upon things.

I feel like all this ME2 talk is missing the slightly undeniable arguement that the other three are simply better examples of Backwards Compatible games. They're titles that were each measurably improved by easy access on the XBox ONE. Red Dead was getting more inconvenient to play, tied to old consoles. Burnout Paradise was busted on PC. Geometry Wars is perpetually playable, and easy to pop back into at any point.

Having ME2 on the XBox ONE isn't good for much, beyond preservation.

If this was actually a Game of the Generation smackdown, I think ME2 could top all three. Though, then it would also have way more competition.

All the ME2 criticisms ring true.

But it's also still one of the greatest games of the generation.

Nope friend. Go play something like Bloodlines and get back to me. ME2 offers nothing next to other RPGs or other shooters that had already been released.

Mass Effect 2 = middling story, fantastic gameplay

Doom has fantastic gameplay. ME2 has middling gameplay and middling everything else. Stop lowering your standards for games with RPG mechanics when every title has RPG mechanics in this day an age.

Garbage framerate and crashes aren't fixable? The awful writing?
That's not really what that discussion was about - it was dominated by Vinny getting weirdly hung up on some random encounter he stumbled upon the moment he set foot in the open world.
Weird AI quirks can't be fixed without locking down all the NPCs in place to give Vinny his "immersive experience," and maybe not even then, seeing how The Witcher 3 was full of that stuff without any of Bethesda's trademark open world randomness.

Not with that GARBAGE combat and mindless planetary exploration.
I'd rather have that GARBAGE combat which at least felt unique, than yet another Gears of War clone from a generation that was already bursting at the seams with those.
Plus, at least for me, tossing enemies into the skybox with comically overpowered biotic powers never got old. It's dumb and silly, but at least it's fun.
