Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Oh, totally. The top 5 games, though maybe not the order, is pretty clear, so I've made peace with the fact that Inside won't be in it and The Witness will be below Doom. I'm expecting:

1) Doom
2) Hitman
3-4) Overwatch, The Witness
5-7) Titanfall 2, Inside, Superhot
8-10) Uncharted 4, ???, ???

lol Uncharted is not going to be in their top 10. I see it being removed well before.

Lol. Tough guy over here. I have no idea what Dan's political leaning is and would not dare to guess. I've listened to every GB podcast and I've never heard him vouch for liberal or conservative views, and just because he works on a relatively liberal site doesn't automatically make him one. He could be a Gary Johnson guy for all I know.

Two pages ago you posted that he was intentionally neutral on white supremacy. You don't think that's an accusation in and of itself?

"tough guy" yeah cool you're totally signally how willing you are to chat

I'm fairly sure he was with the crew when the news first break out. Why are we assuming he knew nothing of it?

Drew barely said a word about it too, do we presume him the same?

I am sure he knew names and had a basic understanding of it.

I don't think he thought anything beyond "Why is everyone mad about how he is voting"

Drew never tweeted "Who or what is Brexit"

Also there's no way uncharted 4 makes it onto the list at all.

I genuinely cannot tell if any of them liked Uncharted 4. Most people seemed to like Nadine, or that One Shoreline Woman Who May or May Not Have Done a Thing At the End Possibly.

I'm more active in my dislike of that game than they are, but every time it comes up, I feel like they might as well be from the Neutral Planet.

Someone taking a neutral stance on white supremacy is not something everyone is cool with.

I hate when people try to drag others into arguments. Dan has admitted to knowing very little about politics so why should he jump into such an extremely sensitive topic without knowing the facts? That's exactly how people like Trump ends up running your country.

You know that's different specifically because it's not about America.

It's a dumb reason, and I'm not saying it's great that he's kinda aloof about foreign matters, but it is a different thing.

I do miss them doing the game of the year actual 'awards' where they say the category name and then the winner with some game footage and some awkwardly timed them all saying the names simultaneously

How is it possible to still not know the facts after Alex lined them out for the table on the podcast? I have no doubt that Dan is aware of the facts and is opposed to Luckey, but he effectively took a neutral stance to the ears of casual podcast listeners by not even chiming in to say "Yeah, fuck him" like everyone else did (besides maybe Drew I think). That's all I'm saying. Suggesting he's still ignorant of politics to such an extreme degree here at the end of 2016 is incredibly damning.

I feel like the clumsy, unenthused stuff only works if the year isn't actually a huge bummer.

Why should he jump in just to say fuck him? If he wants to sit there and let people who know the topic better explain it then he should. Sometimes you don't have to say anything. Seems in like last few years you HAVE to have an opinion about everything at all times and if you don't then you're an arsehole. Fuck that. It's stupid and obnoxious and the kind of thought process that fuels misinformation and ignorance.

All this DOOM talk over the last 3 days finally made me purchase the game.

Thank god for Steam refund.

I assume I "just don´t get it", but did not like anything about the first 2 hrs.

Inside is such overrated, pretentious shit. Beautifully made shit though. If ever a turd was polished...

I was so excited for inside because I fucking love Limbo, but yeah... It definitely feels like Playdead's ambition got the better of them.

Kay.

Let's talk about something less controversial like how poorly Inside ends.

I legit got to the end of Inside and said "Wait, that's it?" I thought it was the midway point and that this was the reveal that was going to make the game start making sense but nooooope, it just ends.

It took me a bit to "get," I guess. I didn't really start liking it until I started viewing it as a character action game in first person.

Playing it after Titanfall 2 didn't help, because I kept wanting to run on walls, but I was eventually able to start enjoying it as a FPS God of War.

Alex explained the topic to him, in detail. You don't have to have an opinion about everything but not having an opinion about what Alex described is utterly baffling. You're basically implying Dan doesn't know what the KKK is.

I admire the "throwback to classic Doom in a modern game" feel, but yes - playing it after TTF2 makes it feel super restrictive.

Or maybe he has an opinion but does not feel the need to express it since the sentiment has already been well covered by the room. Does he need to start posting all his thoughts and opinions in public before you're satisfied?

Kinda weird how annoyed they got by the end of Horde mode getting hard, as IMO that seemed to be the only part where it got interesting. Even on casual, I don't really see the point of a horde mode where you can just breeze through.

I wouldn't be shocked.

You guys do realize just how dumb this makes you look right?

You can't just randomly assume what someone knows or thinks about something based on them not chiming into a conversation.

I'm sort of surprised how so many people in this thread get surprised by how rubbish some of the reasoning can be during these GOTY delibs. I love the Giantbomb crew as far as personalities and a lot of the content they make, but they've always been pretty poor critics as far as what I would like from a critic.

Finally caught up on all the videos.
Titanfall 2 being snubbed in moment of the year is awful, 100% with Jeff that Inside or DOOM should have been kicked off the list.

I am unsure what meaning you're taking from my post but I assume it's less jokey than I intended.

Though if Dan did actually come out and say "I know the KKK was a thing, but is it still a thing?" I don't know that my brain would actually respond. Like a synapse might fire or something, but I wouldn't lose my shit in surprise.

Just looking at the sidebar links on the GB site, saw this, which is Greg Miller's top 10 games of 2016.

I am almost positive, I heard Greg on PS I Love You reacting with absolute derision when the Telltale Batman game was announced. Said something like Telltale had jumped the shark. Now look, a guy can change his mind, but that's some turnaround.

There is a chance I'm wrong about that and am thinking of a different podcast but I don't think I am wrong.

EDIT - Sorry actually I think I am wrong, I think it was Colin. Don't mind me.

The ironic thing is that's the entire point of publishing the deliberations. To show the world how dumb arguments for GOTY lists are.

I mean the entire point of putting out the podcasts and videos has always been to showcase how ridiculous the process of deciding a GOTY is

Failure to mention the ending of Doom where you
face fuck the Spider Demon with the BFG
makes me flip tables. Screw that pansy forest puzzle game. DOOM for everything, bitch!

Also let's be honest, trying to argue with people what your favourite video game is, is a pretty stupid endeavour in the first place.

I was liking it for a few hours but my excitement dies died down quickly. Sold it quick. I am glad it's widely appreciated, tho. It's for sure a quality game and I like that a more raw action shooter like that was able to get such praise.
