Wasn't Drake being "just some schmuck" and not the descendant of Francis Drake already revealed in Uncharted 3? Brad's acting like that plot point is new to 4.

That was actually in Uncharted 1. At least I think I remember him mention it in 1 as just being a story he told to sound cool. It defiantly wasn't some late reveal in the series as far as I remember.

3 just mentioned that Drake wasnt actually his real surname and made hints at him having a shady past we dont know about as well as a few lines about his childhood (some of which where straight up rectonned in 4 anyway)

Vinny, we are glad you love ZTD and expose it to more people, but it's not going to make it on the Story discussion. It won't even make it in the top 10 of the year. It's barely in the top three of the series and there are only three games.

And...I'm shocked anyone else on the crew is somewhat excited about it. Actually shocked.

With Austin and Patrick gone what can you expect

You have Jason but he doesn't fight very hard, and Alex at least tries to fill an Austin/Patrick role

How deep are story spoilers in that category? I have yet to play a few of the major choices like Titanfall 2...

Vinny at least knows VLR > ZTD.

I liked Uncharted 4 and the structure works well enough, but not it's that great a story. Better than 1-3, but not a top tier story either. TLoU is the ND game with an actual great story and pitch perfect pacing.

I had a tough time figuring out their number one pick ahead of today. Normally it's only one or two of them having some passion towards a thing and arguing the hell for it, but that covered several games this year. I'm glad they chose right. ☺

He had the same experience as me, in which I marathoned the series over the summer, and he also played them back to back as well. We both don't have the perspective of the fans who literally waited years to see the conclusion.

Don't get me wrong, I think the ending is hot garbage. Everything from the
Delta
twist on ruined what came before. But what came before was great, if janky Zero Escape. Great fucked up situations, another fun twist on the branching paths nature of that game (starting from the DS 999 on, each game DRASTICALLY improves the core mechanic of the game). Is it the best game of the year? Probably not. Best story? Debatable. But I don't think it's the most disappointing game of the year.

Day 4: Jeff's arguments and thoughts on Inside are really obnoxious and frustrating to listen to. He just writes it off completely seemingly because unexpected and unexplained things happen in the game.... which is one of the best parts about it. I don't know, I'm glad the rest of the crew stood up for that game. "Whatever, fuck Inside." Lol c'mon Jeff

No I agree with Jeff. The game doesn't play fair. You can't make a game with a string of "OMG ISNT THAT SO FUCKING WEIRD AND CRAZY?!?" moments without any explanation. Then you're just fishing for Best Moment noms and YouTube highlights.

I agree with Alex on Doom. It was fun, but it's a real fucking basic story. It's more well strung together best moments.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck Firewatch. Alex is so fucking wrong, that game is the quintessential unearned red haring manipulative bullshit. It is the epitome of what I don't like about some indie games, which is to say it's a bad story told badly hiding behind a faux-artsy emotional facade.

Hearing people say
"They pulled together all those plot threads so well" is making me actually angry.

Agreed on the latter part.

Also I agree with Alex 100% on Firewatch. Alex has been the MVP for me this year in the discussions.

None of the 4 games their discussion right now on my podcast are in my Top 3 of the year so :lol

Vinny is so close to getting things right though about a few things in Best Story.
