Giant Bomb |OT31| I Think it Might Be for Show

Her design being done by a female designer mitigates that somewhat for me, but hey, I'm not a women. I'm not going to try to tell them how to feel. And not all feminist follow the same thought. Just say your own perspective and hear each other out.

I think this is a pretty weak justification of the character for me. Not only does it suggest that female's can't design sexist products/art Bayonetta wasn't designed by one woman. The artist was female but the character was designed by a group of men. She had her own input, I seem to remember that she repeatedly said no to some things that were over the top. It doesn't change the fact that she's a woman who men decided shouldn't wear clothes because she has magic hair, which means she strips naked when using it for no reason, or that she uses a variety of bondage based attacks for no reason and the most explicitly sexual just so happens to be the with the only enemy in the game that has a clearly female body.

I don't think Bayonetta's egregious or terrible and it's sexist only due to ubiquity of sexism in game design given that it's clearly meant to be unabashed exploitation. I just really don't see her as empowering as a sex positive lead. The sexual content in the game only exists for the audience to salivate over.

Anyway the podcast section was fine. I think Alex a little mansplained in that he assumed Abby didn't know what the character was about when all of her points held up. He could have just asked her about her issues first, but it was an easy mistake to make.

If you had to pick a current GBE feature to call the worst, what would it be if not Blue Bombin'? I think 5 has been great so far, but SMS and Exquisite Corps beat it out.

If Bring Your B game really is dead then yes, I guess it is Blue Bombin'.

(Blue Bombin' is fantastic though)

edit: when Yakuza comes back that will be definitively the worst. I like Yakuza a whole lot but I didn't care all that much about watching GB play it. I'm sorry for asking for that feature.

Since Xbox got brought up the Beastcast:

I don't care that it's 2017 and I don't care that I recently upgraded my internet speeds. Turning my Xbox One on and seeing there's a 32GB update for Gears of War 4 is fucking ludicrous and I straight up don't even bother.

The real question is why do we have to make something into the worst?

Welcome to the 4K generation. It's not going to get any better from here on out.

I think of the three yeah, but I enjoy all 3. For me, Blue Bombin' being an extra podcast is pretty rad, and I kind of like the 'slice of history' aspect to it. I've never played a mega Man game, so I felt like my knowledge of the industry is getting a bit more filled in.

Also, I'm just glad Alex gets to do something he likes.

Which is kind of what I meant when I typed out saying that is it her taking full control of her sexuality when she is being directed by male creators? I did say mitigate, not wholly excuse. The entire context of the post is important.

If Abby's capable of doing character action games, she should straight up play Bayo on camera. It'd be very interesting to get her take, because yes, it certainly feels like most (if not all) the conversation about Bayonetta's sexual politics comes from men. It's on some Bojack shit:

You're totally right. I just got hit with a case of poo brain and am used to the "but the artist was a girl!" defence on this forum.

Hmmm. So does Abby basically mean it's impossible for men to design a sexy, well written woman? As in not a lady character who's main defining feature is her hotness, by where her hotness is a single facet that influences her other characteristics?

I admit I was only half-listening to the pod though while playing Overwatch while all my cartoon porn was downloading in the background through legally grey channels.

I don't actually know. I haven't listened to that part yet.

I certainly don't believe that, but the problem is that gaming is so male dominated. It would be better if we can see sexuality from a female perspective too, more often than we do now.

In other fields that have plenty of women in it you can see that they are also capable of being just about as horny as us.

Nothing she said suggested that to me. I just got that she found Bayonetta to be pretty gross from what she's seen of her. It would be pretty cool if she got a feature where she played through some of the game for the first time on the site and gave her thoughts though.

nah screw that, they asked for people's money and pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. Some people definitely took it too far but I'm not here for "it's just videogames" when they're lying about huge chunks. And like BTA said, there's no way they didn't know multiplayer wouldn't make it to ship until days, weeks, or even months before launch.

If this was any major publisher no one would be making excuses for them. And Sony bankrolled them so that excuse doesn't even fly.

I guess it's the "lying" part that I've always been torn on. Like, a massive fuck-up? Absolutely. They set incorrect expectations with their grand visions of the game and the sheepish / teasing "well... maybe... I don't want to say" stuff regarding specific features, and they failed to dispel those notions in the lead up to launch. It's a perfect example of why it's important for gaming storefronts to offer refunds, and people who went that route (when available) were entirely justified in doing so.

Still, it never read as malicious to me. I've never bought the "Scheming Sean" narrative that they intentionally misrepresented the game to get more sales; it really seemed to me that they simply got in over their heads, which is why I'm willing to forgive as long as they make good (which they appear to be).

Edit: I still don't understand why Sony would back them so heavily but not assign some marketing person to the team to reign in the messaging.
