Giant Bomb |OT31| I Think it Might Be for Show

Jeff will go hard for Horizon because it's this year's not-Ubisoft Ubisoft game

Jeff doesn't go for the best games. He goes for the least games that have the least rough edges. The most focus-tested, polished AAA games.

I'll literally Die if everyone in the GOTY-Cast goes "huh y'know. Horizon is Actually a better game. I had more fun with it!" over BoTW.

isn't his hate for old guns more about ww1 and further back rather than ww2 stuff.
Most of the complaints he has about old guns are still present in WWII firearms. There was definitely more automatic weaponry compared to WWI, but a lot of stuff was still semi automatic. There's also the lack of a rail system in that era of weaponry, which is what allows all the customization options in modern CoD games. I imagine that all those problems will be side stepped by including experimental weaponry the same way Battlefield 1 did. Jeff didn't like it there and I can imagine it rubbing him the wrong way in CoD.

Did Jeff ever play R6:Siege? I feel like he would've enjoyed the variable gameplay.

You think Jeff would enjoy a team-based competitive shooter in which communication is key? Hah

Jeff wailed endlessly about the game's incredibly inoffensive renown boosters when it came out based on some ludicrous fairytale premise that it would pressure everyone to get boosters because they added up if more people on the team had them. He had next to nothing to say about the actual game of course because it isn't his thing at all.

I'm pretty sure he's the reason why nobody on GB gave that game a chance.

He really did not like it.

Ahh, well that's disappointing.

Did he not like Socom back in the day?

Actually thinking on it I'm pretty sure I have the exact opposite tastes in guns with jeff.

Give me a pistol or sniper with slow firerate but high damage.

Fuck ARs.

He hated it. After his and everybody's love for PUBG though it made me want to say "YOU GUYS SHOULD REALLY PLAY R6 BECAUSE IT PROVIDES THAT SAME TENSION MUCH FASTER THAN PUBG DOES"

Well, sort of. In PUBG you got this massive space and freedom but with R6 you really have to be tactical and think about any particular map you're in because 90% of the shit within the building is destructible. When I say destructible I mean you could make small holes to shoot from to full blown wall teardowns and shit. Another thing is that R6 is largely based on teamwork(Jeff would say fuck no to that) since every character has special abilities and to be the best you got to form a team that plays off the strengths of each character.

In PUBG atleast, you could do shit solo. In R6, you're going to have a bad time if you did that because you'll die quick if you weren't careful.

Actually just semi-automatic fire was brandy new in WWII. The M1 Garand was the first standard-issue semi-auto service rifle.

Yeah, PUBG and Siege are my most played shooters this gen. While they have different gameplay of course, both games offer the same type of tension not a lot of games can pull off. Too bad he didn't like it :/

Would anyone interested in helping build a collaborative list of the games likely to come up in the site's GOTY 2017 discussions? I generally like to go into them having played as many of the games as possible. I have a decent sized list myself, but I'm mainly a PC player so there's a lot of stuff I might be a bit myopic on.

Siege is probably my most played FPS of this generation. It hooked me in the same way COD4 did years ago. Nothing else came close honestly when it comes to the FPS genre, not even Overwatch. PUBG provides that same kind of tension but what I love about Siege is that a single round in a match only takes 4 minutes or so(even less so if you were spicy).

1. Nier Automata
2. DJ Max Respect
3. Night in the Woods
4. Splatoon 2
5. Persona 5
6. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone
7. Breath of the wild

I'm pretty sure these are the only games they'll talk about.

Are there a lot of people still playing it? I need a new game to get pissed off at all the time.

Semi-auto weaponry predates WWII by quite a bit. The M1 Garand is just first semi-auto rifle adopted on a wide scale in a military. The m1911 was pretty standard issue for officers in WWI and it's semi-auto. There were several automatic weapons used in WWII that were relatively standard issue like the M1918 BAR and various Thompson MG variants.

Mind you this is just the US Military everyone had their own stuff.

Yes. I was getting more at WWII being the first war where semi-automatic weaponry was common. Love the standard issue WWII firearm (BAR is the GOAT imo), can't wait for the COD: WWII.

Ah I see. The M1 Garand, BAR, and M1911 are sort of the foundations of all modern equivalent firearms they were some impressive stuff at the time. I can definitely agree with the sentiment.

I think that's sort of the question. Painting dumb patterns is a thing people actually do with modern firearms, but older stuff is supposed to be this austere thing you leave as is. Its sorry of the same problem that a lack of rail systems has where yeah you can make up rifle holographic sites, but that wasn't a real thing back then. Maybe the devs have talked about it I haven't actually payed any attention to news about the game.

Sick! How much is a good price for it/does it go on sale a lot?

Console or PC? On PC it's on sale alot and the starter edition is really cheap for the amount of stuff you're getting(you could unlock most of the operators by just playing their "getting you ready for MP" singleplayer, that's what I did). The microtransactions are only for cosmetic stuff except in one instance. if you purchase the season pass, you are able to play the new characters they put out a week before it becomes available to everyone. Other then that everything from the maps to characters are free for everyone and they're still supporting the game(which is why I assume there are people still playing the game)

I honestly would love to jump back in if it weren't for the other games I want to play at the moment.

PC for sure. If you're on there too, I'd be down to play sometime (once I pick it up next paycheck or so).

Counterstrike is the best pew pew game

CS:GO and DOTA2 taught me levels of video game rage I never knew I had within myself.

I only have it on Xbox One but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it whenever you get to play it. Many people didn't give it a chance back then because UBISOFT + MICROTRANSACTIONS?!?!!! but that changed, obviously.

The Great Youtube Parkour War of 2004 or that week Casino Royale came out and everybody really liked that opening scene take your pick.

Nah, it was actually when this movie got subbed/dubbed in English.

It's a fantastic film.

In the LA Podfest Bombcast. Vinny just said "Mario Maker or Metal Gear, which is better?" Jeff instantly said "Metal Gear" .....I'm still upset that a level editor got GOTY

I always assumed this was actually a terrible movie, but I went to look and true enough good reviews from major publications and a good Rotten Tomatoes score. I thought people were saying it in a so bad it's good kind of way. My bad I'll have to check it out at some point.

With Patrick calling people, who are saying innocent until proven guilty, shitlords I think it's clear Waypoint are unable to cover the Robinson news story in a normal fashion.

The right game won, but I still don't think Invisible Inc. or The Witcher 3 should have made it on that list. Austin's "impassioned argument" was basically a bullet point feature list, and Dan was absolutely on point saying if The Witcher 3 was really that good, at least one of them would have finished it.

Considering I'm almost completely through re-listening to every GOTY podcast over the past few weeks, I can safely say that 2015 is my favorite year for discussions.

I always wanted to get into Siege but I don't really have a squad to play games with so..

Yeah, I tried playing it solo and while it is fun it's not as fun as it was with my friends/family. PUBG at the very least is as much fun alone as it is with friends. I'd reckon PUBG is more fun alone even because you only got yourself to blame if you were killed.

I always assumed this was actually a terrible movie, but I went to look and true enough good reviews from major publications and a good Rotten Tomatoes score. I thought people were joking.

It's an incredible film, action and stunt wise. Story is serviceable. It's a shame that not many people saw it back in the day because it was the "RAID" of that time. I don't know about the sequel(never saw it) but the first film is a classic.
Metal Gear Solid V is the best half of a game to come out in 2015.

I can't disagree with you. In my eyes it was the best but then again I never got burned out by it. Well, I kinda did when I unlocked everything lol.

What remains of Edith Finch

Upcoming good possibilities

Destiny 2
Mario rabbids

The point he was making the court of public opinion is different than the court of public law. Those shitlords are conflating the two knowingly in order to discredit the people who came out and said "yeah nicks said some creepy stuff towards me.", because those shitlords want "proof" in order to know who they can harass.

And seeing as how Austin and Danielle had heard stories of Nick befote it blew up, yeah they would have to tackle the subject differently, but that doesnt mean they couldnt cover it normally by offering a personally neutral article/story.

I wonder who else they've heard stories about.

There must be others like Nick who haven't been exposed yet.
