Giant Bomb |OT31| I Think it Might Be for Show

Alex shouldn't pass the controller. He is being a party pooper.

and I get to make demands. This is premium content, they are on display for our entertainment. Their job is entertaining us. Never forget that folks.

Because he gets worked up about it when he spends too much time and making mistakes. It sets him off and he clearly doesn't feel good. You see it in Mega Man too, but he actually likes that game so it's easier to deal with. Just has to keep telling himself it's not his day.

I know it's related to his anxiety. A bit of TMI, but my younger brother is also super anxious, which usually the recommended behavior that most of the specialists I've talked to is to encourage, usually until my brother himself can't, despite the encouragement. I just feel like he can still pull it off if he kept at it with the same focus that he puts on Megaman. Honestly it makes me more sad than angry or upset, because I feel like he doesn't want to be there. At the end of the day I'd rather have him pass the control around than to inflict misery on himself that he doesn't have to endure if he doesn't want to.

Now that I think about it, he's more likely to pass the controller away if it takes too long, vs. the platformer levels, where the turns go at a speedy pace due to the deaths. Sunshine is super bad about having you re-do an entire segment because of the heights it makes you climb without any real check-pointing. It'd probably be a better game if falling off a steep height meant a reset, or if it had the Galaxy 2/3D World style checkpoint flags.

It's probably better than any other outcome though, because it keeps the streams going at a decent pace instead of getting stuck on Alex trying.

I just think Alex knows there are people watching who don't want to watch him fail to complete something over and over.

More than most I think Alex feels the pressure of "is what I am doing now entertaining?"

Yeah Alex's anxiety is real shit, not just like, "I don't wanna do this so I'm gonna be a stick in the mud".

I like the millennial podcast. I think Ben works best surrounded by fellow millennials. And Danika is hilarious.

Rookie is letting the comments get to him.

If Alex is going to skip his turn so often, they need to make it part of the game instead of Abby just getting extra turns for no reason.

Ben should have known what he was getting into with Kingdom Hearts. It's one of those games with a *ahem* passionate fanbase.
Also, I can't believe Ben has an unreasonable grudge against Tetsuya Nomura.

I have no problem with people fucking up as long as they are having a decent time.
Yep, me too. I start feeling bad for Alex when he's visibly having a bad time with the game. The solution is obviously to just start betting like a maniac.

I can kinda see where some of the detractors are coming from, re: Kingdom Heartache.

GBWest I feel has always been pretty negative or straight up ignored most JRPG-type stuff. When I saw they were doing it, I just assumed it was to shit on the games.

Real talk: If someone tells you the beginning of KH(2) was good, they are completely insane. It's bad. And when KH gets bad, it gets REALLY BAD. But the good parts are highly enjoyable.

That man needs to go to jail for his potentially unlawful love for zippers.

Alex should lose a shine if he has one, and it becomes abbys turn regardless of his progress. But she doesn't double up

I can see why people find Sunshine frustrating/disappointing, but as someone who never played it man do I adore the tropical vacation aesthetic. The visuals and music are so great and summer-y.

I'm actually getting nostalgia for the "The beginning of KH2 is bad" chatter because I remember that just being a major talking point in chat rooms(!!) and forums the first week-to-month of its US release.

But yeah it's bad.

Kingdom Hearts 2 final mix is probably the best action rpg out there.

Yeah I think this is why it is so odd to me.

They should make a rule change where if Alex passes it off Abby gets 5 turns to complete then it goes down the line 5 turns each.

I enjoyed it later on when I had actually played Chain of Memories and understood the chunk of cutscenes that were calling back to it. It's still pretty bloated.

It's about the only thing this feature has left intact with regards to my memories of this game.

Sunshine and Paper Mario TTYD where from a time where I guess they left the chains loose on the people who design the games at Nintendo. They both possess beautiful, charming and vibrant worlds (well, as vibrant as they could've been on the GCN).

Then Miyamoto caught wind of this and doomed us to a world of New Super Mario Bros. and bad Paper Mario games. The shackles have been loosened lately, by the looks of Odyssey.

Kingdom Heartache isn't bad because they don't like Kingdom Hearts or because Kingdom Hearts is bad. It's because they don't appear to give a shit about anything and unlike the off-topic chatter in Blue Bombin, it's just awkward and stilted

Yeah after finishing up the second part I totally agree. They do have some good moments though, like Jeff's impression of Goofy.

Well, from what I have seem so far KH deserves to get shit on. It doesn't seem like a good game at all.

Then he is dead wrong, I, and many others, love to see them fail again and again. He should understand the internet by now.

Alex is a goddamn saint. I found it charming when he passed his controller in episode 3. He knows himself than anyone, and made the wise decision of changing the circumstances before he became legitimately angry. I admire his steadfastness as a guardian of his mental health.

My impression is that it's a gag and I think they're pulling it off well. Up until Ben overwrote the first save I was hoping episode 3 would be Ben replaying the same shit as episode 2 but with Brad. That's how straight I want this to go.

It's a difficult game to get into at this point. 2002 was a long time ago and the game hasn't aged well. Later games are a lot better especially in the controls department.

KH1 even got an upgrade in controls for the HD ports, you couldn't use the right stick for camera control in the original. Horrible.

I don't really get the point of the KH feature. The whole second episode was just a waste with half the episode spent being lost. If your going to give the game a chance then at least have a be prepared with a guide to move things along. Its just been poorly planned out so far.

I loved KH1 when I was 10 years old. I only got 45% of the way into KH2 before stopping.

I'm replaying the KH2 Final Mix in the PS4 collection, and it feels really close to a modern game. I'm really surprised how great it looks and feels.

My biggest issue with the game is how many battle encounters and worlds early on revolve around mini-games and orbs.
Also, not really sure how I feel about the back-half of the game being about returning to the old worlds. Feels like I am getting each worlds unimportant secondary storyline with O13 stuff in between. With the weird numbered sequels, the KH series could use some tightening in terms of plot.
