Giant Bomb |OT32| I've been meaning to love a boat

That said, I don't actually have a lot of current gen games in my goat list.

Like maybe 1 or 2?
I actually have quite a few games this gen that I'd put up there. But part of that is I didn't really play games much till 7 years ago. Before that it was WoW, Dota (the original mod), and Smash Melee
That would require Game Freak to put effort into a Pokemon single player campaign instead of shitting out another boring thing even kids can auto pilot.
Yeah it kills me that they don't do more, Pokemon could be so amazing

Listening to the Bombcast, they discussed possible uses of Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis System in other games and I thought of one that I think would be awesome. It would be an open world pirate game (more Skull & Bones than Sea of Thieves) where you sail the seas and battle other pirates. You, a pirate captain, are considered a low ranked pirate and the goal of the game is to increase your notoriety. The other pirates are your nemeses. When you face them in battle they'll hurl insults and whatnot at you. Any time you best them in battle, the chances of their crew opting to join your ranks increases. As your progress in the game, you'd capture enemy ships and crews and appoint captains to those ships that would then act as your underlings as you grow a fleet of ships, becoming a true force of the seas. You would control ports that you could visit. Wherever you see land, you could visit (maybe to hide your pirate treasure... or to find your fortune!). Also, not only would there be ship combat, there'd also be sword combat, as well as pistol combat (on ships or land). I just think that could be so much fun.

It would be sort of a more modern Sid Meier's Pirates.

Man.... I want a new Mercenaries game with another Deck of 52

It really bums me out that the franchise that would most benefit from the Nemesis System is one that’s damned near guaranteed never to get it- Pokémon.

Just imagine a roster of rivals competing with you, building teams to neutralise your best Pokémon and you fighting your main Nemesis as the Champion with a team custom-built to take yours down. Fuck, that’d be impossibly good.

Fuck you.

This is a very VERY good idea and I'm mad you made me realize it won't happen.

I had a good time with the nemesis system. And I definitely died once things started becoming immune to my most used strategies

Them talking about the Nemesis System just feels like rose tinted buzzwords at this point, it didn't work great for me either at the time

I fucked around on this one mission in SoM and kept dying to this one dude. Then when I got serious he was too powered up and it took me forever to kill him. So the Nemesis system works for me, but you do need to die

Conversely I think that me not having a lot of current gen games on list is that I only got a PS4 late last year.

I'm sure there are a couple of PC games that is current gen on there that I'm not thinking of.

they basically need to start you weaker. SoM, if you're any good at the combat, is a cakewalk.

XCOM:WoTC is interesting because it's a lot scarier than it seems, but after playing for some time, they're actually a lot of bark and not as much bite as you'd expect.

People know that there's such a thing as bad art right? :p

Not meant as shade on TLOU, it's just that I find it funny when people use phrases "transcending to art" or making it seem like being art is some sort of higher tier.

Nah, it's just that some people have some weird conceptions about art.

Like the beastcast saying that science is art once. Like, what does that even mean? Science is a subjective piece of self-expression?

People just need to use terms better.
