Giant Bomb |OT32| I've been meaning to love a boat

It commoditizes black men. It reframes black men as little more than sexual props or as a "thing" for white women to giggle about amongst themselves. White men don't receive this treatment, don't have their genitalia reduced to a punchline (Asian men of course suffer from this as well) or as some sort of exotic item. They're men, they have penises. Any race-associated embellishments on top of that are damaging.

You're talking about the direct joke that black men have large penises. Sure, that's a hurtful stereotype we should work to fight against.

But making a playful reference to the common 'BBC' phrase? Now that is problematic and offensive? At how many levels of removal does it end? Is it wrong to mention the Bigger Blacker Box? Someone might get offended if they work backwards from the product name and realize there is a stereotype about penises in there somewhere.

I did have an issue with the Bigger, Blacker box actually. I'm not demanding you agree with me, man.

I was more wondering about use of the word savages in that context. I also disagree that white men don't have their dicks size as a punchline.

Mario/Rabbids is novel, but I can totally get why Jeff (IIRC) said it was best played in small doses. It can kinda drag.

I highly disagree with that, maybe for the first two worlds it's a fun romp but the moment you get you World 3 I'd say it's about as hard as X-Com on Hard.

It's definitely a game well suited for a handheld. Even better suited for iOS/android, but Mario Rabbids on phones/tablets probably wouldn't happen.

I don't necessarily fully disagree with you -- but I do want to know when it ends. At what level of removal from our language and culture have we wiped away enough problematic elements to not stir shit about them?

I fully agree we should not make jokes premised on harmful stereotypes -- but to say we cannot make jokes based not on the hurtful premise, but the artifacts around the premise is a bridge too far. We're talking about a joke based off a turn-of-phrase used daily in personal ads (if those even still exist).

But woman driver jokes are denigrating to women. Saying 'Big black fruit' is just fucking referencing the BBC phrase. It's the fucking Problematic Associative Principle.

You're basically saying it's offensive to joke about woman drivers (sure), AND to joke about woman driver jokes.

Next up it'll become problematic to joke about how someone joked about something being problematic.

Referencing BBC relies on you understanding what that is and being "into" it as a joke thing. It serves to emphasize how weird you think it is.

BBC porn uses a lot of racist sort of tropes in many instances like black men "stealing our white women" and stuff like that.

Well, giant dick size being associated with savagery goes back to like Greco-Roman times. It may be seen as a "positive" in our modern day society but there's still a tinge of barbarianism that comes along with the idea of large male genitalia.

Yup. I call it Marioxcom, but as many others have said, its more of a puzzle game than an Xcom game, and is best enjoyed like a puzzle game.

It ends up complimenting Xcom really well - the more I play it the more I want to get around to War of the Chosen

Then we cannot talk about Aunt Jemima syrup, 'cause then you think about her racist origins. Suddenly I am perpetuating racist stereotypes because I have a syrup preference.

You don't need to know what the C in BBC means or it's racist origins to get a small laugh out of the obvious pun in 'big black fruit'.

Does saying "I like Aunt Jemima syrup" rely on you knowing that Aunt Jemima has a racist origin? And how?

No, but similarly 'big black fruit' doesn't rely on you needing to know that 'C is for Cock' and the racist undertones of the phrase. It just relies on you knowing there is a common dirty phrase starting with 'big black' in it.

That is the least convincing argument I have ever seen...

I know there's a "C" in this dirty phrase...BUT WHAT COULD IT BE?

Is it Cowbell?

Is it Combine?

I wish I could get a regular Destiny crew going.

Shit never came together for me. My IRL friends bounced off the game after the terrible launch and GAF is grand for doing a nightfall with GAFer randoms and thats it. I could never get a raid group.

Jeff had to do a somewhat complicated quest to get that exotic. Crazier than that is he enjoyed doing the Nightfall which has a timer now.

i'm glad to see the beta testers are really digging Destiny 2! can't wait for the official release 6 weeks from now!
Good one.

I have a group of four, which is perfect for most games, but I think it might be a real headache for Destiny.

It feels like no one at Bungie cared about the armor you get in Destiny 2 before you reach level 20. It all looks so generic and bland, at least for Titans.

Please break down the entirety of Abby's 'big black fruit' joke, and how it absolutely hinges on the racist undertones of 'big black cock'.

Oh, wait -- you can't because it doesn't. It was a lazy pun based off Pornhub's 4th most popular search terms by females. (Link to Esquire article that contains NSFW images/text).

If it's wrong to joke about Pornhub's fourth most common female search, I don't wanna be right!

Back to Giant Bomb: I've not played any Destiny 2. Is there any RAID content that is likely for the Duders to live-stream? I enjoyed their Taken King stream, but found any other general Destiny steam boring -- likely as it was not as focused at the TK stream on a single big goal.

Yeah. Destiny Co Op being 3 player is such a random design decision considering the standard co op set up is 4.

Bungie sure where smoking some shit when they nailed down the pillars of destiny.

3 player co-op!

Also no matchmaking for the big worthwhile end game activities because it would ruin the experience but its totally OK to try solo a raid because IDK LOL.

UPF was damn excellent this week.

Sometimes when I walk home, I stop by the telephone pole infront of my house and look up at all the cables that go into my building and I wonder which one is mine. That's how much I love my internet connection.

I was touched.

well the game over condition for Xcom is either you have all the countries drop out (which actually takes a while but most people restart before it can) or having zero soldiers left.

Yeah, even if you're playing terribly and losing most missions, it'll almost certainly still take several ingame months to actually get a game over state.

Also, while the opening letter gimmick is fun, I feel XCom would work as just as well if they just played it together, they'd still get their asses kicked eventually anyway in the actually hard missions instead of getting blown up in what's essentially still the tutorial.

Knack 2 has better combat than DmC.

It doesn't but it's fine for what Knack 2 is.

I can never figure out how much of a "2002" curve I should be grading Kingdom Hearts on

Like, what's on display here looks like "Knack, but with Disney"

If you insist...the joke uses being into Big Black Fruit to reference being into Big Black Cock porn. We'll stop here and just say that simply saying Big Black Fruit is not a joke. You HAVE to know about Big Black Cock for the joke to land. Now if she had just said Big Black Cock for whatever reason, the joke might be simply the shock value of saying cock as sometimes the dirty language is the joke. However, in this case, she's simply referencing it so the language isn't the joke.

The joke is that she is using a Big Black Fruit as an oblique reference to being into Big Black Cock porn which has racist undertones. The joke does not rely on the racism of BBC porn nor did anyone say that so kinda...what?

What the joke does do though is rely on you thinking about a fetishistic type of porn that as Ashby pointed out has racist undertones. It makes you think of black men as a weird fetish rather than just a group of possible partners.

And this is not uncommon in porn, Japanese porn the other side's number 4 relies on a lot of tropey ideas about Japanese women and how they have sex and who they are as people. US porn has similar ideas about an Asian woman.

And higher ranked porn like stepporn and milf porn certainly fetishize family members and older women. All porn relies on fetishisization somewhat but BBC porn is especially heinous because it relies a lot on stuff like white girls going out to cheat with a black man because they have huge dicks and their man can't satisfy them the way you can, blah blah blah. It presents them as the side action from unfaithful white women instead of valid partners. Not all but a lot.

My point is being highly ranked on pornhub doesn't make your porn good or right. I don't know why you would think that or present it as good counterpoint.

It's fine to be into it but it's also fine to criticize it or jokes about it. Part of putting stuff out there is that sometimes you get a response.

The stage design legit sucks and is legit obfuscating. Even as a kid, I remember I hated certain levels(Like Tarzan and Pinnochios levels). Some of the levels are straightforward(IE Alices and Nightmare Before Christmas level).

But there's a bunch of obtuse bullcrap in the game. Like, never does it tell you that the environment at times is interactable, it doesn't really give you hints on what to do except a line in a cutscene or a repeatable talk box.)

But yeah. It's fun if you know what to do, but if you don't, it's a fuuuucking grind.
