They're gonna talk about Splatoon 2 for a week and then everyone will forget about it.

At least it will be talked about longer than For Honor, lol. I think I remember Dan saying "This game is really cool". *2 days later* What game?

okay then what about how they brought in Tim Turi, Matt Helgeson and Giant Bomb's Dan Ryckert to do the final episode of Overblood 2 and Blue Stinger

that's probably the coolest thing any of these sites have done this month

Ok, that sounds dope. I actually haven't watched that video, I'll have to look it up.

As much as everyone has been complaining GBwest lately (and I'm certainly with you on a lot of the complaints), I've really enjoyed the Star Trek quicklook and the DOTA esports thing with Jeff. The End is Nigh QL was fun too.

Someone please gif Vinny's face moving into frame while Alex was talking.

Really enjoying this supplemental episode.

I dunno, Game Informer released a surprise playthrough of Splatoon 2 and interviewed Neil deGrasse Tyson for their podcast this week, all while working on a magazine
From all the stories from Jeff about working next to EGM during the Ziff Davis days, I'm under the impression that working on a magazine is the easiest job in the world.

I really do believe GB is falling behind other gaming outlets when it comes to content. While others are experimenting and trying new things, GB seems pretty content just doing the same shit over and over, and it still usually works because they have, by far imo, the best collection of personalities on any one site/YouTube channel, but imagine their personalities on GI or Polygon-type content.

And yes, I know not everybody is a fan of Polygon/McElroy content, but at least they're trying new things.

Man some people giving NeoGAF a bad name. then again, with some of the stuff said in that new hire thread you can't blame them:

Wasn't it one dude who came up with the bizarre rants that derailed the thread?

Aside from that dark, depressing turn, I feel like most of the negativity was standard fare for Giant Bomb threads.

What does "trying new things" mean? What exactly would you like them to do?

Polygon: not even once.

I dunno, being the one gaming magazine in existence, working out deals and taking trips for exclusive cover stories and answering to GameStop probably changes things a little bit.

So take Polygon for example, Griffin and Justin have a series where they play games with character creators and fuck around with it and then go into the game with their weird creation. There's some really funny stuff that has come out of that, one of the best episodes specifically from Mass Effect 2 where they use a debug program to really push the character creator.... to it's limit. It's a good idea for a series and as given them hours of #content. A lot of their stuff seems to revolve around the desire to fucking break a game to pieces. But as I mentioned before, that's McElroy driving that stuff more than anything.

I don't necessarily think Giant Bomb should just be stealing ideas or *JUST DO THAT* but I do sometimes feel there's a creative drought.

They just played Dota together as if no one was watching them and plan to do it for 100 more episodes. Dont be so entitled. SHEESH

I think Save my Sunshine's a good start.

Polygon have Nick and Griffin series' that they actually end when they start to grab, they have SoR play, they have a PUBG stream where they change the rules every session, Patt does a series where he tries to get Nintendo to retweet a good toad, their humours kind of absurdest in these but they also have the usual livestreams on top of it.

Steal my Sunshine's a great feature and things like the old scrub tournaments were great. Though there are periods where GB stagnates. I imagine quite a bit of it has to do with corporate though, I wouldn't be shocked if the guys and gals at Polygon have more creative freedom.

Aw Jeff answered my polygonal emulator question on jar time. I asked mainly because I spent a whole afternoon tinkering with pcsx2 and spent more time deciding on settings than playing. :)

16 bit stuff I will take raw and unfiltered but that 3d stuff I'm still not sure what I prefer.

Some of the Polygon youtube stuff is pretty good but let's be real, they work because of Mcelroy boys more than anything else.

I dunno, they have a pretty good crew overall now. Justin, Griffin, Nick, Simone, Pat, and Russ are all great. I really applaud the work of Tara Long in building such a great team and embracing the absurdist angle of their work

I don't think GB is really into these joke formats. They naturally turn regular videos into that stuff when they feel like it. Like that Korean MMO that was more about the character editor than the game itself.

I enjoy some Polygon videos when they break Mario Galaxy through an emulator or throw a bunch of mods at Skyrim. But those videos are also edited. I can't see GB editing their videos to make them YT friendly in that way.

So are you guys complaining about the quality of content or quantity? In the last week we got way more content than I can watch in a week and the stuff I did watch was fantastic (BitE, Start Trek VRodeo, Steal my Sunshine, Fantasy Dota, Firepro Unfinished).

Splatoon looks like a fun game and everyone is praising the franchise but for some reason I just can't get into it...

I briefly tried both games and I always end up giving up after 2-3 games.

GI goes out of their way to play games that look interesting but nobody's ever heard of

they also buy used memory cards off of eBay, see what's on it and try to guess what the life of the owner was like

GB's definitely the least creative of the video sites I frequent, Dan notwithstanding

Time limit is a bad phrasing but demos on the 3DS had limited plays.

Oh, I see.

Thank god it doesn't. You can play it limitless times. We've played the Japanese demo for 20h or so. I should really buy the game at some point. It's just 25€ on Amazon right now too. 🤔
