Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Nothing, the site content has been below average amount the past two to three weeks, absolute fact, despite the fact that there yes, indeed is some content. Then they cancelled TNT "because of GDC" and instead tweeted photos of them hanging out in a hotel room partying during what would have been TNT time. There was a lot of content mentioned that hasn't appeared on the site at all yet. Just wondering what's going on, that's all.

I don't want to support a site with my money if they are going to skip out on normal features in order to party with their friends who happen to be in town and make excuses about it. I want them to prove me wrong.

I have a yearly subscription and I kind of just pretend that it goes to support Vinny, Dave, and Drew's endeavors. I wish a show existed where the 3 of them just drove around in a pickup truck picking up arcade machines and videogame memorabilia off of Craigslist.

I feel like I'm always fighting to find the time to watch all the content they do put out, so I feel my $50 has been well spent. I only finished watching the Vinny & Dave TNT last night.

i'm a lil burnt out. only been watching the Vinny/Dave/Drew stuff recently.

So both media buddy and instacast fail to authenticate when I log in. I actually thought my password was incorrect but it's not. Kinda disappointed.

The media buddy straight up halts on a screen displaying some code.

I'm glad the crew was able to cancel TNT in order to hang out with their friends eating kettle corn in a hotel room while posting meme pics on twitter. Feels great to spend $50 supporting great content like that.

I agree, the last couple of weeks have been extremely weird, especially considering Jeff keeps talking about how "crazy" and "busy" things are. Usually when things are crazy and busy, we see the results of the craziness and business. I'm still holding out hope for something big, but I keep getting the feeling like they're resting on their laurels a little bit too much.

Cooking/music/book whiskey media site imminent?
"I paid money to a personality-driven website and now the personalities are being too personal and not informative and/or formulaic enough."

seriously what are you even saying. don't re-up when it comes time if it upsets you that badly.

That's completely not what he's saying. It's none of my business but it annoys me extremely when someone tries to blatantly troll an argument up.

Yeah I was on that screen for about 30 seconds, but it eventually logged in and notified me I'd be able to watch premium stuff now.

I really hate when this criticism is met with "well don't re-up then". You understand what that means right? That's a subscription lost they would otherwise have, a legitimate concern.

I don't think we're going to get anywhere discussing it here because I highly doubt they'll ever comment on what's been going on, or why there seems to be a lapse on content the last couple weeks. I agree, Jeff saying it has been super busy seems at odds with what is on the site, but I don't work at the office.

I'll say the most disappointing thing is that there aren't GDC podcasts.

Funny, my subscription just ran out and I'm not sure how I feel. I really don't have the money this time to resubscribe, but I'm going to miss the premium videos.

what i got out of it is that he is bothered by the personal choices the site staff is making and somehow equating that with the expenditure of his $50 subscription fee. i wasn't paying 100% attention, but when i signed up i'm pretty i wasn't given any guarantee that the guys wouldn't do stupid shit with my money like buying kettle corn and hanging out in hotel rooms.

if they weren't the kind of people who i felt like giving money to, i wouldn't have given them money. complaining that their normally structured and repetitive methodology of content generation suffers for 2-3 weeks because sometimes they have to go and do something that resembles actual work is not really valid.

if you paid money to giant bomb, you paid the cast and crew of giant bomb/whiskey media to continue being giant bomb/whiskey media. if you were unclear that giant bomb/whiskey media sometimes does dumb shit, then you obviously weren't paying attention to the kind of website/community they've established and probably shouldn't have given them money.

except that in every other instance when someone thinks their money was not well spent, the general response is 'vote with your wallet'.

That's true, I just don't want them to get to that point with the site again where they're scratching their heads on how to make money. Last time that happened, they tried to split the bombcast.

I don't care about that hotel room meme, I thought it was kind of clever. My concern is that they didn't do a few quick looks or TNT, and we aren't getting some cool GDC stuff instead. At least so far, I really do miss those GDC podcasts.

I think when they initially started doing subs they actually said "Give us money so we can keep doing dumb things." I give them cash because no matter what they always come through with a bombcast every week and I'd like them to be able to do that for a long time.

Moan about the lack of videos and podcasts over GDC but they also haven't been on fire with the written stuff ether.

Nothing about that Kara demo. nothing about the new Unreal, nothing about the Pez guy who said all japanese games suck, Nothing about that shitty Vita event in japan. Nothing about the NPD's.

But at least Patrick was at GDC talking dumb pics with the Hormonix guys. Real professional game journalism going on there.

To be fair, maybe it's a case of everybody being on the show floor shooting QL EXs with indie devs and doing cool interviews and we'll get all of that next week. I'm just bummed that there isn't a RPG or LYLS for the end of the week.

Sure did find the time to put up an article with someone backing up Phil Fish's opinions, though.

Had to get right on THAT.

Uh oh. Looks like this thread is on the verge of another whiny cry session.

Depends on if funkystudent follows through on that last post. ;)

Seriously though, I just want some fucking GDC coverage, sooner rather than later. It's an awesome show and they're right in the thick of it so, you know, they should put some stuff on the site, or at least let us know what's coming. And I don't think saying THAT much is whiny.

'Coming Soon!' box ain't there for nothing

Screw GDC, Mass Effect 3 Spoilercast!

I would be shocked as hell if this happened. I think it'll be too long before enough of them finish it, at which point they'll think it's too late to bother.

Which is one thing that bugs me: their habit of assuming that if something is a little late, it's not worth it. Now I'm sure that they have facts and figures backing up that idea, but I think given the personality-driven focus of the site late content can work if it's the right sort of content.

Given that GB isn't about trying to be first on the internet at having some bit of news up, I don't mind a lack of content at all. I always hate when sites cover an event and just flood a ton of articles with very little information, whether it's GDC or E3 or whatever.

At least it's a nice change up for the complainers to be bitching about lack of content. I was getting sick of "they suck at games".

Meh, my sub expired. I'm not gonna resubscribe until they start getting back onto a regular content schedule. I know some big stuff has happened with Jeff, and Ryan getting engaged but that's not really an excuse for being at GDC all week and us getting no content.

They're not your personal entertainment slaves. When you get a subscription you're not signing a contract for them to make a certain amount of content. I'm sure this is just a lull, soon enough there'll be more coverage.

I hate the tone in this thread right now. Some of you sound like your lives revolve around the guys putting out content. Anyways if they don't want to put out stuff right now I'm fine with that. With GDC and personal problems I can't blame them. The last time they were forced to churn out weekly content we got the Happy Hour, which has boring and awful.

All the stuff theyve been busy doing comes out on the bombcast, they can't always do video stuff. Most people go to GB for the podcast, that's where they're work goes.

Thing is, that's a big event in the games industry. For as much as I hear about how amazing the talks are at that conference, I want at least some insight seeing as they're there. I don't see how that's an unreasonable claim, especially when that's what the equivalent folks are doing.

Though I really don't want to appear like I'm desperate for content, it's been an observation for me that clearly others have seen too.

Say what you will about it being a personality driven site now, but I still get the most out of the insight into how the game industry works, which they usually do a great job of providing.
