Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

ARGHHH... I never had issues with the site's video player before but it's been TERRIBLE for the last couple of weeks. For the quicklooks I can watch them on youtube so that's ok (even if it's avoiding the issue...).

For premium content however... I'm trying to watch the Unprofessional fridays and out of the 3 options HTML 5 is the only one that let's you skip and jump to the middle right away (I started watching at work and wanted to resume at home) but HTML 5 has a bunch of other issues. For example, if I pause the video will never restart...argh.... piece of crap player, ridiculous. I would watch it on seaserpent but they didn't upload them there.

Your best bet is to just download the files. I started doing that and never looked back.

I think Gears is a case of incompetency over intentional crassness. I think they thought they were making a legitimate stab at an "adult" idea in total seriousness and it ended up being totally stupid.

I stopped trying to watch videos on their site. They never load for some reason. Sometimes I see the commercial, but after that there's usually just a black screen, too. This is the case in both Chrome and Firefox. Doesn't matter if they're set to streaming or progressive either.

Hey guys, I'm watching Space Jam. This website makes me do funny things.

Follow that up with a play through of Barkley's Shut Up & Jam Gaiden if you haven't played it already. Or replay it if you have. It's cannon.

I haven't played Bulletstorm, but who the hell cares about cursing? If anything is embarrassing, it's Gears of War: Simplistic storyline combined with absurd chainsaw-guns that produce huge blood-fountaines as a dominating gameplay element

I enjoyed the game and found some of the swearing mildy funny as well as finding the common sense of humour in the game enjoyable in a juvenile way. If Cliffy has a problem with the marketing of Bulletstorm he should also have a problem with the tone and content of the game as the marketing seemed to represent the aesthetic of the game quite accurately.

Gears of War has nothing to do with Bulletstorm but the way GOW was/is promoted is less accurate to the game's tone than Bulletstorm's was I feel.

BulletStorm only had two things, the kill system and the swearing. Both of those wore thin after a short time. It's easy to blame the crassness but without it they still didn't have much of a game.

SA vs. GAF

e: hi, Brad

come hang out in yospos

We don't care about Brad anymore.

;)

(and Something Awful is, quite literally, awful. A heaven for despotic moderators enforcing their own opinions and a paradise for suppressing open discussion due to the prevalence of mega-threads for everything)

The Goons in the GCCX thread are angels. They do the fan subs.

Oh crap - something awful has a mobile site? This could be dangerous...

I've only visited once or twice but the main reason I waste time on gaf is because of the old web app / current mobile site

NetBuff's post. You're a goon aren't you?

I dunno it was a dumb joke

oh yeah

well anyone who gets banned from a place for shitposting likes to rationalize it into "they banned me for my opinions." there are a few anal-retentive goon mods (groverhaus never forget) but guys like slowbeef, zorak, zoolooman, and joementum are great

also rip vilerat, even if you did have some bad opinions that goons mocked you for nearly a decade ago, you never deserved to have your memory trotted out by republicans in a political farce

You're being ridiculous. I was never banned from SA (I regret spending money on an account), but I still think it is a ridiculous echo-chamber of mostly uninformed people running on mod-enforced "proper" opinions. There are plenty of terrible mods at SA, which ruin the forum experience.

I've never been able to hunt down a used copy of Deadly Premonition, but with the Director's Cut coming out it leads me to wonder, should I watch the endurance run before or after I play the game myself. Which is better to experience fresh?

What you described sounds a lot like neogaf

Nah, I've hopped onto my buddy's SA account a few times and it's pretty much the same.

Absolutely not. What creates a terrible environment on SA is the fact that people are afraid of creating new threads, there are plenty of arbitrary posting rules (discussion of gun issues forbidden, no threads about police overreach for some time) and mods tend to use their powers to enforce their own opinions.

SA is the complete opposite of GAF: On GAF, open discussion is encouraged by our wise leader Evilore, and mods tend to be competent and consistent about not forcing their own argument on others.

Not really, having to pay to post is really stupid tho.

It cleans things up a fair amount so I'm fine with tossing 10 or so dollars their way. Most people (most) tend to be a lot more hesitant to act like a raging idiot or type like an armless man when a monetary value is attached to their stupidity.

Somethingawful lost a real treasure here

The only thing this does is create a superiority complex in most posters: "I paid money, therefore I'm part of the elite that writes quality content."

Somethingawful lost a real treasure here

Case in point.

not gonna lie, i was close to paying to join the GCCX thread but then i don't think i have anything to say there so i just post in their FB page instead

It always seemed like a normal entry fee to me. It's not like GAFfers have never been full of themselves just for being on GAF. Assholes abound, wherever you go.

I like SA for all the awesome videos it produces, but they're on YouTube, so the forum itself is kinda worthless to me whilst I still have my GAF account. Not that they are interchangeable, but I feel like two forums would just overwhelm me.

I don't know about you but whenever I get pounded into the ground with a one month double probation for being a shitty troll in the Wii U thread I hold a life long grudge

The Wii U thread (which is where I recommend all GAF Nintendo fans head) is only a small facet of the fact that SA, as a whole, tends to be badly moderated. The amount of "taboo" subjects in GBS at any time, for example, is ridiculous.

Netbuff just has a stick up his ass about SA's moderation and was likely banned at some point for reasons he can't understand. SA makes Reddit look like the shithole it is. SA is the key reason they were forced to remove /r/jailbait and other similar dens of depravity I don't care to remember.
