Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

Hahahaha, Ryan's comment that Saint's Row 3 is on a different level of quality from anything Volition have produced is hilarious, Freespace 2 makes that argument eternally invalid.

How bad have spoilers been in the podcasts and everything? I've yet to finish Saints Row: The Third or Assassin's Creed: Revelations so those two specifically. I'm fine with everything else.

I seriously doubt Assassin's Creed will make any list (it has not so far) and Saints Row might be a problem depending on how far along you are.

Major Saint's Row spoilers I'd say. Avoid the Ryan videos until you've beaten the final Deckers mission. You'll know when you get to it.

SR3 discussion has mega spoilers. you might wanna wait.

Thanks everyone, I had a feeling that was the case. I'll hold out until I finish up the main missions, might try to knock it out in the next couple of days so I can listen to some of their stuff.

Jeff has been holding out on us with the Driver: San Fran impressions. Why weren't we told sooner!

Also, I wonder when this podcast was recorded, I was surprised that Pushmo didn't receive a mention during the best debut since they seemed pretty high on it recently. I guess this was recorded before they played it.

Today's podcast should be properly showing up in your podcast feed grabber/thing of choice. Restart iTunes in case it cached the old feed!

Saints Row is starting to feel like this year's Limbo. You can almost hear Ryan shouting SAINT ROW during the nominations phase when ever there was an open slot.

And I can#t blame him. I am with Patrick, that I did not like the previous 2 games and this one blew me away. It did not take the number one spot on my list (that one was pretty much reserved for Deus Ex) but it did make it to number 2.

The way they joke around in the first podcast makes it seem like they probably recorded this a pretty long time ago, like early December if not late November. I ain't hating, but yeah they essentially miss out on a month of stuff and more time play games they haven't.

Pretty sure they recorded it last week or the week before that. You can also be sure it was recorded on just one day. The talk about it being day 2 and stuff is fake. We know from the years before that they do this in a marathon session.

I thought Ryan (?) tweeted something the other day that implied the podcasts were recorded sometime last week, but I might be imagining that.

Since you are also remembering that I we are probably right. ;)

They mentioned it a few times, when Ilomilo came up, that any game that is released after the Game of the Year deliberations is consider in next years awards.

I lost it at both the best Skylander and Best Sky game categories.

(also glad my boy Gill Grunt made it into that top 3. I actually cheered in my car when Jeff first announced him.)

I don't really understand why some people seem to get so upset (internet upset) or worked up about how they don't like or recognise <insert game here> as much as <insert NeoGAF user here>. It's not like there's a GOTY Metacritic, or anything! (yet...)

2/2 in my picks of their picks. Should go 3/3 when Jeff picks Saints Row. But I need Alex to go Portal 2, although he could very easily go for Rayman or Saints Row.

Oh and I think everyone should just assume that there will be spoilers about any and all games they talk about, because that's how they've always done it during these things.

Why are they including Bastion in their lists? They didn't review it, seemingly because they didn't think they were credible in doing so, so why are they credible now?

I think there are enough people who are seriously putting Skylanders on their top 10 lists to make me think that they aren't being ironic.

I thought it was pretty obivous they were being ironic. Skylanders does some interesting things with the physical toys and it's business model, but the actual core game is nothing special.

Except not really, because it'll be too long ago and they won't care about/remember it anymore.

They discussed this at the time as well; reviews are basically purchasing decisions, and they felt they were too close to the project (and I agree). But someone asked them in an email months ago if it would be included in GOTY awards, and they said there's no reason it wouldn't be, and I don't see a problem with it.
