Giant Bomb's Game of the Year Thread: Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim? Skylanders!

Vinny on the screen fucking KILLS me every time I see it. Don't even understand why.
I think we all know why.

I never fail to laugh when I hear horrible dubstep playing over a Trackmania level. That Cher one almost had me in tears.

Dead Space 2 has a PC version, so higher resolution and framerate. Uncharted has better variety in the visuals though.

This is actually one of the categories where I actually screamed what about Witcher 2 when they revealed the initial list and was glad someone put up a fight for it.

Yet I totally agree with the Bombcast crew that games looking f-ing amazing these days. My only complaint with Witcher 2 is, I'm not sure whether to call it bloom or dynamic lighting, but that game had lighting coming out of the wazoo.

I also think it's a realistic expectation of what games might look like, at least at the start, next generation.

For me the most impressive part of the Witcher 2 was the texture work. I'm not even a graphics whore, but the texture work and little details were amazing.

Uncharted 3 looked amazing, but Witcher 2 spoiled me.

Yeah as you said the texture work and just the attention to details in Witcher 2 was fantastic but the bloom was so fucking terrible, looked so much better when I turned it off, I hope that they don't get too carried away and add way too much bloom for all the 360 players and not give them a option to turn it off. Would really have liked a slider to put it on low or something.

I just have to say that after buying and playing Sonic Generations -had those guys played it on PC- my guess is it would've definitely made the list and even top three. I can't believe that game looks as good a it does.
I'm glad Vinny (<3) fought for the Witcher 2 though, that game is beyond everything else released this year and has been overlooked time and time again.

I'm okay with Saints Row III winning, but I really don't think it should win. I just got done playing it and it was a very fun title. The problem was that I just got done playing. Heh. Took me under 20 hours to get 100% completion. It felt too small.

Saints Row III seems like the "Chuck Norris joke(s)" of video games.

and he works for screened.

But quite honestly his written articles are much, much better than his video appearances. And he does write an article or review from time to time, and they're always baller as hell.

I love reading the comments on the top 10 videos. Several people have actually said that the crew's opinions are wrong because LOOK AT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE CHOSE.

Funny.

Anyways, I want to bitch about an award as well. Why would Portal 2 win the Northies? He sounds very un-Nolan North, but his voice has all kinds of effects over which make him sound different. The dialog is absolutely hilarious, but Nolan North didn't write that.

Just saying.

...

I really, really hope SR3 ends up winning this. I often bitch about all game reviewers being dumb, mindless sheep, yet I visit Giant Bomb every day, because they at least try not to be. Choosing SR3 for overall GOTY because it was crazy and they liked it would be such a great fuck you to the people who seemingly already had their top 10 lists thought out before the year even started.

All this talk about Bastion made me go and find out if it was ever going to be released for mac. Turns out it's perfectly playable in Chrome on my macbook. It was a steal at $4.99 - it almost made me feel guilty.

On topic: I love the madness of the Giant Bomb GOTYs. Spreading out a basically just a few awards over multiple days with hours of quality content per day is an amazing achievement.
I can't wait what FMV game rip-offs they have for the other lists.

Joke post? Nolan North is a voice actor, not a script writer. Naughty Dog allowing for and encouraging ad-libbing is the exception, not the rule. Do you even understand what the Northies are about?

Most likely to people who haven't played it. It underwhelmed me a bit with how short it is, but it was an exceedingly polished(Runs very well on my PC) and fun open world title. Its closer to what people expected the next GTA to be after SA, than what we got.

Volt got ride of a last of the last gen feeling the first two had, on top of making it a much more pleasant, less frustrating experience.

No Killzone 3 for graphics? I haven't played it yet, but don't they hold up anymore?
it looks nice in a few levels but some other levels looked pretty bland. I do wish they discussed it more.

I gotta give props to Brad for championing Dead Space 2's graphics. The fact that Ryan didn't play it worried me but Brad did it and got it in the top 3. Good man.

It's not "best graphics", it's "best looking". I guess they didn't think it looked as good as those other games.
Sorry, meant best looking, it's obviously not going to hold up in that department against the big PC titles.

KZ2 had great art direction so I figured 3 would've kept that up.

Ryan asked who would argue with it, but a lot of people did argue them against them giving the Take a Break award to Final Fantasy last year over all the franchises which have annual releases and basically release the same game over and over again.

Yeah, yeah. I'm probably in the minority on this one and will have to accept that.

Edit: Lmao, like Chuck mentioned, where's the new tag from? I liked the Fifty one =(

You've a new tag. o.o What is it about?
Not entirely sure why I got it but it has to do with that Avenger controller marketing guy being a dick to a customer (and saying he knew the mayor of Boston.)

It was later revealed he didn't actually, but instead knew the guy who runs the door at the convention center :lol

Yeah. It's one hell of a looker. I think most people disregard it cause they see a Helgast helmet and think "this looks like Killzone 2".

It's still good, but I don't think it's as good as KZ2's was. That was masterfully oppressive, it had that horrible sense of constant shit in the air and stuff, really gritty and generally unpleasent. KZ3 went for a broader range of locations and visual themes, and in doing so it lost a lot of that.

I listened to the latest podcast last night, I really disagree The Last of Us is evidence ND are moving away from Uncharted. In fact I think it's evidence they're not. They set up two teams so they could do something else in addition to Uncharted, not in replacement of it.

Based on the way that Vinny introduces Witcher 2, it's clear that it won't be his number 1.

I knew a lot of people were conflating their own appreciation for it with Vinny's. Frankly, from the podcasts, I think he liked Witcher 1 a lot more than Witcher 2.
