Gintama° Series 3 |OT| It's Not Digimon Tri, But It'll Have To Do!

Glad to have Gintama back after being absent last week. The fight scenes were great between the Yato siblings was short buterm not over yet. The real battle between Gintoki and Takasugi was brutal and filled with drama from well done flashbacks. Every time sensei is shown I get sad since so nice yet met a brutal end. The OP is kind of disappointing since it's recycled footage with ano alright song. The ED isn't as good as the last one, but it's still good.

I wonder how thinly they're stretching the budget if they can't make a proper opening animation. Could be that this there'll be a proper opening after the arc is over though.

Yesss i love me some DOES
although it's not even close to Donten/Shura level of awesomeness

QUality is still kinda meh, but there are definitely many gif worthy moments.

Story wise it's pretty much what i expected (especially the flashbacks), curious to see where it'll lead but i can sadly see Gintoki and Shinsuke making peace 'cause manga friendship.

I finally managed to catch up on this season and damn at this current arc. I never thought I'd see a serious arc with the Sarutobi and Zenzo. Momochi is so fucking cool too.

The only thing disappointing is that it's really not up to par in terms of animation. I'm not too surprised because of the new studio, but still.

I just found out about this Gintama OT. I'm really loving this arc. I never thought I'd see an serious arc with Sabatori and Zenzo. Also the new DOES does is okay to me. Doesn't beat Donten or Shura.

Only buzzkill of this season... :l

It's kind of strange that they didn't make a proper opening for this arc when this is supposed to be a big one, instead of adding scenes to a new OP (although they're really good scenes) and reusing these scenes again to create a rehashed opening with some distracting effects.

At the same time, this arc is just the beginning to a string of arcs...so they might be saving the DOES song for the following arc.

Still this episode didn't seem that low budget even if half of it was flashbacks.

Moving on, as always the choreography of the fights was on point. The fight between Kagura and Kamui (what we saw of it so far) was good, but then Gintoki vs. Takasugi was amazing. Really cool attacks they pulled off and intense, bloody and brutal. Gintama has the best fights.

Was kind of funny to see (young) Katsura once being a voice of reason. Shoyo is awesome.

And dat Takasugi smile at the end. 10/10

Episode 305

Holy fuck

So it was Oboro who made Takasugi lose his eye  And he stabs him in the end too WTF...this dude really has it out for Takasugi.

The flashback was good and the fight was great as always. This is one of the best anime fights...does not disappoint at all after the 300 episode buildup lol.

Wow...poor Gintoki and Takasugi. Both of them are haunted by their past trauma so they have no other choice but to lash out at each other due to the Joi war. This brutal fight was made even sadder after the flashbacks revealed a rivalry that was sweet in the past. They were all truly inspired from their sensei in order to carry on his samurai ideals. Gintoki kept it by any cost necessary which was something Takasugi could never accept. This was a great and tragic episode of old friends finally hashing everything out through their fists. Hoping we get Kagura vs Kamui next week. I just feel like crying right now... ;___;

Whoa, this one was heavy.

But the fight itself is kinda meh, i mean they're acting like they're using superpowers or something while it's barely swords and fists, and the screaming why the hell are they screaming so much lol

Also i still don't get how can Gintoki get such a beating from Takasugi when he did better even against fucking Housen.

Easy, he's worn out.
He was fighting a whole bunch of Yatos before fighting Takasugi, and while they may be not as strong as Housen, fighting multiple of them is quite something...

I decided to watch the episode.

I never expected Gintoki to be the one to kill his sensei.

Things are getting kinda crazy with now Oboro coming in. I'm wondering if Katsura's gonna come into play in this arc. I know it's gotta be someone since Gintoki and co. are not in any position to hold off more, new enemies.

I kinda had to laugh at that cliffhanger though. Yeah I don't fucking believe Takasugi is dead for one second lol. I mean it'd be such a big troll, having Takasugi just killed off right there.

The only thing that's weird about the fighting are all the strands of energy whenever they exchange sword blows (seriously what's with that, it looks really weird). Other than that, the fighting's pretty damn raw.

The second point is easily explainable. Gintama's still a shonen and he's Gintoki's main rival so he's gotta be about as strong as Gintoki, as per shonen rules (or somethin'). And to be fair, he had extra support against Housen with those Yoshiwara ninjas.

The manga always had impact waves with the blows. The previous animation team generally had them as just waves of wind, while the current team is rendering them as solid ki blasts. Although the previous team did use the ki effect for some rare dramatic moments though, like the ending of the Housen battle.

I've only been following Gintama through the anime so I wasn't aware that the manga did it in that way.

Meh the superpowers are there for dramatic effect. When the camera is close up and it's nitty gritty, the fight is still raw.

As for the screaming...I didn't notice there was that much screaming, but either away this is an anime (a shonen at that) so it's nothing surprising.

Btw Gintoki got beaten badly by Hosen before defeating him. Hell he gets bloodied up by every villain before managing a win. Power levels aren't 100% consistent in nearly all shows. If he curbstomped everyone it wouldn't be that exciting, plus villains have different fighting styles and techniques that Gintoki's not always going to anticipate.

Takasugi has been built up as THE climactic villain for the entire show. He wasn't going to drop easy, it's just common sense. Plus what makes you think Takasugi couldn't stand against Hosen?

Takasugi and Kamui are equals in a way, so it makes sense that Takasugi would be on the same level as Housen (And so those Gintoki).

Honestly the only clear Power level we have is Kagura's dad, who is constantly refereed as the strongest man in the Galaxy.

pretty late but wow this episode. Probably one of the best in the series imo. So much is explained now.

Last couple episodes looked fantastic. Budget spent well :p

Haha, this one. All serious and stuff and then they give you a Ginpachi-sensei at the end. This fucking show. xD

So, what's next after this?

I've heard it remains serious still, right?

I think that that's the first time they've done a Ginpachi-sensei in the 2015 series.

Anyway that sure was an episode with exposition.

I would actually like if they just start with the next arc and after 3 or 4 episodes suddenly go back to the funny stuff they skipped. Why? Well, of course because they still had this stuff and they thought now would be a good time to do a "Flashback", because all of that actually happend before in the timeline.

And I would probably laugh my ass off if they would continue with this for 10-20 episodes and then just go back to the middle of the serious arc, because the flashback is now over. That would be so random. And if any show could pull something like this off, it would be Gintama.

They are doing one of the comedic arcs they skipped as two OVAs.

Gintama 306

So good. Betrayals, reinforcements, new alliances and Sho-chan being best Sho-chan. And it looks like next episode we're getting to the end of this arc and then back to normal Gintama again.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Biggest issue with this arc is that Gintama is so comedic most of the time with big gaps between the plot movement episodes (and time, due to the hiatus) I honestly forgot a lot of the plot beats set up throughout the series.

Is Oboro supposed to be related to Gintoki or is the resemblance just a coincidence?
