First time I've seen a compelling story about a vending machine. Gintama™.

Also I found the Dragon Quest half of the episode really funny for some reason.

This is it. The biggest arc that will completely change Gintama as the story finally reveals itself. Despite all the drama I'm still glad the show can have lots of dick jokes. I'm glad Zenzo and the ninja clan are finally getting some more backstory has his character has been underused for most of the story. This arc should only continue to get crazier after this episodes' cliffhanger do buckle up fuckers. Man seeing that tool get crushed by Kamui was great. God have I missed Kamui and how badass he is. Only disappointing part was no new OP considering it doesn't capture the dramatic nature of the show. It still feels like an ED. At least they added more scenes but it isn't enough.

And it has started. Surprising to see that they changed the OP and also slightly changed the ED (outside of the Shogun now appearing in it, the bit with Kagura and Kamui is now animated).

Also,
seems kinda obvious to me that the Shogun getting decapitated at the end was a double.

New opening scenes are hype as fuck!!!

Great episode, some interesting things going on, especially with Zenzo. The jizz jokes were weird lol. Also the samurai and Oniwaban turning on Hijikata and Kondo suddenly was awesome.

Next week is Kamui vs Sougo, some new characters and a big fight. Shieeeet.

I finally catched up. And of course, like every serious Gintama arc, this thing starts of stupid as fuck. God, I love this show. xD

So we now get 1-2 cour epicness? I am so in!

Hi,

i´m not up to date with Gintama. But i started watching the show last month and just want to say that i´m loving it.

Also i´m on episode 79 where 4 of them are stuck on toilets without toilet papers and i can´t take it anymore. Been laughing like a maniac at midnight over here.

Neat. I was wondering if they were gonna go on another hiatus after the Shogun Assasination arc draws to a close, guess this means we've got another four months or so left at least.

Though I don't know how long this Arc actually is so maybe it exceeds the Yoshiwara Arc (that was like 8 episodes?) in length.

The Gintama anime in the 3rd and 4th seasons had quite a bit of added filler content extending the stories though, while nowadays it's mostly a panel by panel adaptation with only rare extras. I think it's possible that this story could actually end up shorter than Yoshiwara in the anime.

Hmm. Anyone here who has read the manga, how long do you think the arc will go on in the anime going by the pacing so far?

The first episode covered from chapters 502 to 504. So, 3 chapters for a dialogue heavy episode. There are 23 chapters in total. If they don't extend the battles compared to the manga, the upcoming battle heavy chapters could end up covered even faster than that though, since motion goes faster than dialogue. I haven't watched the new episode though - that one might show if we're getting extended battles, which could make the arc longer.

Chaos reigns this week with the continued attempts to kill our favorite Shogun. Tons of betrayals and political intrigue going on too. It was nice to see more of the oniwaban's character back story. I still felt that they're going through events as quickly as possible like other anime adapting manga. I always felt past Gintama arcs had better pacing but maybe I'm wrong. Still, the fight between Kamui and Okita was way too short! We've gotta get these monsters to fight again. The new oniwaban characters look tough so I'm hoping they get some fights next week. Wasn't too surprised by the ending but still a little bummed since it negates that surprising moment last episode. I'm still glad they get to do dumb callbacks like Kagura calling Toshiro "Toshi" despite all the death going on.

Oh my god. This was the greatest episode of this season. So many amazing fights. Gintama does it like no other, seriously. I love how they animate the fights in this show with the amount of speed, intensity, and blood. And them back to back twists. God. Damn.

I had a feeling that the Shogun was hiding with Gintoki's group though, seemed kinda obvious he'd be with the main characters.

Also I was kind of hoping it was Kagura who took the ninja dude's leg off. She should be more than capable. But I guess having the Shinsengumi do it was a nice lead in to the shogun's reveal.

Also next week is
Takasugi vs. Zenzo
, wtf? Hype.

This fucking show. God, I love serious Gintama arc. Well, as serious as Gintama arcs are. *looks at the first few scenes from this episode* xD

Finally caught up with the series!

Shogun assassination arc delivered at every step!

The fight b/w Okita and Kamui was just too good! :D

Can't wait for the next fights to be animated.

Jeez Sorachi stop using your super sappy childhood friendship flashbacks to make me get all sad when Zenzo fought this episode. Beautiful use of the medium with different scenes adding up to an overall fucked situation. Surprised easy Naruto jokes haven't been used yet for the ninja village but they have to be coming soon. Great arc so far to keeps getting crazier.

A Dark Continent (HunterxHunter) reference?

OK so Zenzo and Takasugi didn't really fight. This episode bumped up Zenzo's character appeal and the exposition was pretty good even if the fights were sparse. Looking forward to next week.

Gintama is ending next year with one last new arc. They joked that if Sugita can keep it going if he doesn't go bald. It was expected since the story is wrapping up but it's still pretty sad. At least the anime will still continue till next year at least.

NOOOOOOOO YOU FUCKERS CANT GIVE ME A CLIFFHANGER AFTER PROMISING TWO OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FIGHTS IN THE SERIES!!!! Plus the show is going on break until next year fucking shit! Anyway, the fight between the yatos was brutal with Kondo being a surprising badass with his moves. The animation wasn't great but I guess they're saving it for the next episode. I've felt Saurtobi's VA feel off for all these serious arcs but luckily Zenzo has been great. Honestly he's been acting like a hero in this arc. Next episode should be massive with two confrontations that have been needed for a long time.

Another great episode. The animation was a little cheap but the choreography and surprises were good as always. Also awesome ending...now to wait :x

It's kind of disappointing in a way. In the arc about the executors the new staff seemed to be adding atmosphere to the series in a very interesting way, but this new, and much more important arc, visually, seems blander than any of the serious arcs that we got starting from the 2nd year of the anime.

I thought I was the only one lol

it feel cut out compared to the more elaborate choreographed arcs we saw in prior arcs... instead we see a ton of before and after slashes with a bunch of swing effects added to seem that he sliced down when it is just one dynamic pic followed by another
is it budget? who knows

It definitely is budget and the fact that the series animation is managed by a different studio now, so they have been really close to the manga, to the point that fights seem short (Because in the manga they feel longer since you can stare at the picture to take in the details, while in the anime it just flows by)

Just got to catch up with the last episode.

Must say i'm really not feeling this arc.
I don't know if it's the budget animation, the colors (aren't they like super super saturated?) or the pacing, but this isn't keeping me on the edge of the seat like other serious arc (mainly Yoshiwara, Jiraya) did.
Plus that opening is really not fitting, where is my DOES?

Hope they unleash everything for next episode tho.

Opening theme isn't great but the ending theme just brings all the hypeeeeeeee
