Will this be only the previously uncovered conedy arcs or will they start the final arc too?
Also, pretty curious to see how they'll be implementing them after how the last season ended.
First episode of the new season is up. It's a full 30-minute series again, and seems to be covering the stuff from before the Shogun Assassination Arc that wasn't covered in the anime before.
New season is out? Fuck yeah. I wasn't aware that the anime skipped some stuff. I'm guessing it'll cause some continuity errors but it probably doesn't matter.
Yeah they are animating the comedy chapters and arcs from the manga that they skipped over because they wanted to focus on the serious final arc, but since the manga is still going (And will probably last at least one more year), they made the "Slip Arc".
Honestly I am really happy about it, some of the comedy arcs they skipped at first are amazing.
Manga Spoilers:
There is a few characters and jokes from the story arcs that haven't been animated yet, so in a way they are fixing minor plot holes/jokes

That makes sense... but if this was the plan all along, I just wish they aired Love Potion Arc normally instead of making it some OVA pack-in that people had to fansub.
I've always been a fan of Gintama but after loosing track of the episodes dissuaded me from going further. Now with smart devices that can track your episode usage, I'm back in the game. Reading the manga for 2 weeks straight and still ends up at chapter 300 for the amount of insane dialogue per chapter.
