Gintama° Series 3 |OT| It's Not Digimon Tri, But It'll Have To Do!

Easily one of the best episodes of the new Gintama. It's crazy how well the show is at introducing new characters that have such a strong start. The Reaper from a few episodes ago was great just like Noburne too. Tons of laughs and I feel Saito is a solid addition that introduces new elements of cute shyness. Him looking so serious for it to end up him needing to us Odd Jobs Gin's toilet had me rolling. The best moment is easily him appearing crazy by breaking the cup and trying to smile but failing horribly. Hopefully Saito stays as a new constant member of the show.

The Shinsengumi is kind of odd. It seems like we've gotten a couple of one shot Shinsengumi that just disappeared after their story was over, like the clean freak and some nerdy one. I think out of the minor, named, Shinsengumi, only the brother of the Mimawarigumi's commander popped up outside of his story.

Anyway, I hope Saito is a permanent addition to the cast too.

Pretty decent arc, I love the new guy though. Did I miss something, how did he tell them about the shit Okita and Kondo did when he can't speak? How did Odd Jobs know

Solid end to the Afro arc! Hoping that Saito is a regular but he'll probably just appear in specific acrs. Hopefully he'll get his final fight with Katsura. The whole episode was filled with funny moments but the mic speaking scene was the highlight with tons of gags and I don't understand Japaneese jokes. Gintoki ratting out the Shinsengumi and their strange actions had me laugh so hard. I'm surprised by how villainous Katsura can be considering that he's been a joke character for so long. Great episode as always rotten vice chief.

lmao these characters are so stupid, I love it. The sword fight at the end was pretty hot.

Next episode seems interesting. Is that another new character at the end of the preview?

I didn't get the significance of the note at the end.

Yeah me neither. Can anyone explain?

I started this show 2-3 months ago and I'm only at episode 172, but this is one of the best anime series I've ever seen. It's amazing how it consistently strikes an extremely delicate balance between insane randomness, being clever, and being self-aware. If any of those was leaned into too hard, things would quickly fall apart. The writing behind Gintama is really good.

Just felt the need to say that.

Oh, and props to the Crunchyroll subs. There's a significant amount of subtle and obscure references this show goes for, and the subs do a really good job of conveying them to give some of the jokes more depth, when those references just fly over my head.

Like i said in the other topic, I really hope they aren't skipping stories to get there, and we'll continue getting them out of order.
I think it'd be actually an improvement over the manga if they tweak things to allow some comedic stories to fit in after that arc.

Weird question (so no one probably has the answer), but does anyone know which episode this Kagura outfit first appeared in?
I started noticing it somewhere after episode 100. Just curious, because this somehow became her default "casual" outfit, replacing her previous standard one, but the show didn't seem to mention it at all (even though it's a change I feel they would have).

My man.

Though them covering this arc already is kind of concerning.
From what I've heard it's a point of no return, with it being hard for them to cover anything that happens before this arc.

Hmm...can you elaborate on this? You can PM me.

Well, as far as the manga goes, without going into actual spoilers, just general story structure
this next arc starts a chain of serious arcs which still hasn't ended in the manga. This 1st arc also leads directly into the 2nd one, which introduces some big changes of status quo which makes adapting previous comedic chapters unlikely.

Here are more specific spoilers for the next arc and the beginning of the one after it:
This arc ends with the new shogun taking over and the old one escaping to a hideout to regroup, but he's betrayed and killed there. The next arc starts right afterwards in the manga with Kondo and Matsudaira being accused of killing the old shogun.

And a big spoiler for the end of that 2nd arc:
The shinsengumi disbands at the end of the arc, which makes adapting old comedic stories basically impossible at that point.

I think they can tweak the transition after the next arc, and before the one after it, in order to fit the comedic stories they've skipped so far though. They've already
adapted all shogun related stories too.
For example, they could (heavy spoilers)
make the shogun's death happen in the beginning of the arc after it, rather than ending the next arc, fitting the remaining comedic stories between those two. Alternatively, the shogun's death could be kept there, and the accusation and move against the shinsengumi in the anime would just seemingly take a couple of weeks, rather than immediately after his death like in the manga.

Oh my.
The Shinsensgumi really disbands, indefinitely? Are they still working together though or did they go separate ways?

Edit: nvm I just read a bit off the wiki. Still no more
shoooooooooooogun jokes
?

Kagura

I remember reading this chapter in the manga a long time ago but I don't remember much. lmao at the sound effects and Gin's time travel powers. Can't wait for Okita's and Katsura's shenanigans.

Funny episode like usual. The VA work for Kagura was great as she had to change her voice several times and did it well. I'm always surprised when hearing her regular anime voice as it sounds so different from her Kagura voice. The QUALITY in some scenes is noticeable as I'm sure they're getting ready to deliver in the Shogun X arc. Never been a big OkitaxKagura fan but they do work well of each other so I'm excited for next week. I'm surprised how well Kagura works with the straight man routine when I'm so used to Shinpachi filling that role. Sad to see Kagura die this week though. Hopefully her funeral money is spent well on Gin-chan's patchinko addiction. RIP Kagura.

Reads Ace as Lace. May God have mercy on their soul
can anyone gif. that part when gintoki gently pats Kagura on the back then throws up
blood?

Kagura looks so cute with her hair down
and i havent finished the episode yet but i shoulda known she was playing us like a DAMN FIDDLE

!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH THAT TRAILER AT THE END OF THE EPISODE GOT ME HYPED THE FUCK UP! From what I've heard it's supposed to be the best Gintama arc period and if it reveals what it's about to then I'd expect it to be one of the greatest arcs in anime history. Besides that amazing trailer this episode didn't go as far with the fake funeral stuff as I was hoping it would. It was great seeing Okita being an asshole to Kagura as usual but the rest of the cast wasn't used as well besides Hime-sama. The boulder rolling but was still great though. Hoping they manage to animate smaller arcs from the manga but I'm about ready for a big Gintama arc that'll change everything seemingly.

I'm really not looking forward to
Shogun Assassination Arc
, guys. In fact I prefer Gintama to have a cour of stupid fillers, but oh well. Here goes Gintama's biggest arc.

Dat teasing in the end. So unfair. December can't come soon enough, but then again, I actually don't want it come soon, as I have my JLPT test on the 6th december. :(

It is easily the best serious arc in the series, masterfully written and the pacing on the manga was amazing, bringing levels of hype on the level of the best arcs of One Piece and Hunter x Hunter. It also kickstarts the Mythology arc of Gintama, that means, all characters, plot threads and hints sprinkled through the series are going to see relevance again.

Also, I think that the arc does allow for the anime to adapt comedy chapters in between some of them, since a problem I saw in the manga is that once it started it never gave the reader breather episodes, something I hope the anime can fix.

Man, Sogo is the King of Assholes.
He must have felt soo good during the episode.
Also, incredible performance by Kagura's VA, i was laughing all the time by jer reactions.

HYPE FOR THE SHOGUN ARC!!!

From the way people are talking about it I'd expect no less! I'm lucky that I haven't been spoiled yet.

This so much. I always said that in terms of action Gintama can easily keep up with the popular shounen series, but the Shongun Assassination Arc proved that Gintama can do this with the story too

A decent episode that picked up an older character for a new story. The second half was the best part as the manga style way the show presented itself got stale quick. Gotta love a gang of panty-loving criminals helping out with making manga. From Sorachi's needing friends ad I think we'd be good friends. Excited that next week is Tama centric as she has always had some great episode revolving around her relationship with Gintoki. If Tsukki didn't exist I'd ship GinxTama.

Gin ruining the panel got me laughing loud, also Sorachi/the anime Staff are so good at linking the various gags (assistants being pervs -> gin dropping the ink -> the whole panties hat debate) flawlessly.

And next week, did that look like DQ related? Also more Tama yay!

The manga story was hilarious, but Gin spilling the ink and white out slayed me after he was talking about how simple it was to line the art. These manga episodes are usually not too exciting but this one was great.

READ THIS. Don't watch the ED of the new Jump Special that is out now. It spoils parts of the new Shogun arc so please skip the ending!

Not much to say about the jump special besides the funny Soma segment. The SA trailer was only a longer one from the preview but it still got me hyped.

First part wasn't that great probably because I'm not a big Dragon Quest fan so most of the references missed me. Second part was great and made me realize how good a character Tama is. All her episode centric episodes are brilliant and her interactions with Gin are one of my favorites. It's still cute that she has the ribbon screw he gave her a long time ago. This part was sad overall and showed how kind Tama can be with machines that are mistreated. I'm fucking hyped for next week as it's the 300th episode plus the start of the Shogun Arc that is supposed to be the best parts of Gintama.

I remember the Tama episode made me tear up in the manga because of how unexpected it was, I was prepared this time.

Also I found the first part hilarious "I told you we have to walk in a straight line!"
