Fucking lol.

Takasugi took Oboro's eye, fuck yeah.

Biggest issue with this arc is that Gintama is so comedic most of the time with big gaps between the plot movement episodes (and time, due to the hiatus) I honestly forgot a lot of the plot beats set up throughout the series.

Is Oboro supposed to be related to Gintoki or is the resemblance just a coincidence?

The only thing that confuses me is the political stuff with the factions, and which characters are involved with which ones, and their ambitions, etc. Admittedly this stuff comprises most of Gintama's serious arcs...

Also Oboro isn't related to Gintoki, no.

Haven't been on here since I've been learning programming for the first time but Gintama proved to be a good break from it. Lots of strong moments here especially Gin defending Takasugi with a badass speech. The both of them teaming up together was so hype. Gotta say I like Kagura's new hair down look. Solid episode but it had more QUALITY moments then usual.

Gintama 307

I teared up a little at the end there.

I'm surprised that it looks like the next episode is also serious. I guess people were serious when they said this arc marked the beginning of the end.

I was hoping they'd go back and cover the comedic stuff they skipped, since none of it involved the shogun, but it seems like we're heading straight to the Shinsengumi arc like in the manga...

Welp. Didn't see that coming. Also, are there 1 or 2 more finished arcs right now in the manga? Seems like the anime is catching up quite a bit now.
I would still crack up if we are 6/8 of a serious arc and then suddenly they tell us, they catched up with the manga, so in order to let Sorachi continue with the story they decided to animate all those missing comedy episodes now.

Yup didn't see all those twists coming. But yes I think I need some comedic episodes after all that.

I really didn't see that ending coming.
RIP Shigeshige. Though dude, you could have told your sister you were dying so she wouldn't be confused when you stop moving.

On the subject of placing comedy stories in between this and the next serious arc, I feel like this would be a bad spot. You start inserting comedy stories when things start seeming more hopeful--Star Trek: Deep Space 9 waited until they retook the station in season 6 before doing comedy again.

So maybe after this arc would be a good place to put in some comedy again? or wait later on?

The issue is that one of the missing arcs uses the Shinsengumi as they were before the status quo changes in the next arc. This was really the only point where they could throw them in without inconsistencies or resorting to random "let's go back" stuff like Naruto's filler.

Fuck man, Sho-chan. :(

This really is the point of no return, I'm fucking loving this, but damn I feel sad. I need some comedy episodes.

Think I'm gonna re-watch some of my favorite comedy arcs.

Gintama - 308

New arc, new opening sequence. The 'blood' is gone, but it feels even more depressing now. And the ED is still a lie. Having such a cheerful song at the end of all these episodes is double torture.

Anyway. The first scene started, and I could already feel the tears welling up. God dammit.
This was episode was solely dedicated to the aftermath of the last arc, and while it was not brutal in a visual and actiony sense, it was still emotionally brutal.

This really is the point of no return and this episode and the title of the new arc alone
Farewell Shinsengumi
hammer that point home again.

^ That ED really is a lie, fucking hell D:
I like the new scenes on the OP, seems like Katsura will be in it :D
But, this episode was a real bummer, made me a little sad. At least the Hard-boiled Detective made a return.

That funeral scene was so powerful. It honestly made me want to cry again. I felt so bad for everyone especially Zenzo. This whole plan felt like a complete failure. That drinking scene between Kondo and Gin was amazing. I always love it when the gorilla gets serious. That dream that Hijikata had was fucking insane and I hope it doesn't become real. Surprised to see side characters like the hard-boiled guy come since it ruined the somber tone the show was going for. Lots of shit happened this episode but our heroes will hopefully bounce back from losing everything.

This episode was really well written and directed, even down to the preview. God damn. I love Kondo. And I hope Zenzo can redeem himself.

we live in some weird times when Gintama has turned into the show that has the seriousness and shit-gets-real stuff while Dragon Ball Super is the comedy relief show (that's how i'm feeling atm).
is the Gorilla dead for real? man, if he is, this hits harder than all the deaths i've seen since i've watched anime in my life. unlike most other shows, i don't want to see the cast here die. Gorilla dying would be like a Strawhat dying.

also, they skipped stuff? you'd think they'd try to buy time if these arcs are leading to the end of the manga.
maybe they'll actually pull the flashback card but i have no idea if the transition to the next arcs allows that. the transition between the current ones was very direct. another alternative is that they'll take a break soon and they want some comedy for when they restart next since restarting with full serious stuff would be even stranger.

It was just a nightmare. It sure did get me for a bit though lol. My heart stopped for like 10 seconds.

I hope they actually have a plan and didn't just skip those episodes so they could get to these endgame arcs faster. Hopefully the anime coincides with the manga ending or something. I'd hate for it to go on a long break again...

They are doing one of the comedic arcs they skipped as two OVAs.
No idea if they'll end up doing that for everything though.

Atleast the preview shows we'll have some funny scenes this arc...

On the other hand, I thought the attempts at humor in this episode felt really off with how serious things are. I mean, usually I love Gintama's mix of seriousness and humor but when we had the gag about the dominatrix I was like "hey, this is a really serious episode, that's not cool!"

Really love how they're bringing back all these minor characters recently---didn't expect to see the hard-boiled dude again. Like, I forgot who he was at first honestly.

Was that a dream only? I honestly thought that was real

Not that I believed Kondo was dead. There's no goddamn way.

Anyway the new OP is actually decent now. I'm still not used to seeing old Bruce Willis/ex-Police Comissioner as a serious character though

Yeah I agree that gag was out of place

Also I feel like the only one who remembers hard boiled guy whenever he pops up lol

Are there more gags with the Shogun that haven't been animated? If so, wonder how they'll handle those lol...

Gintama 309

Gintama is so good at times it is frankly unbelievable. 300 episodes of this show are now coalescing together at a rate so fast and so well executed that I cannot comprehend it. I've seen so many shonen flub it at the endgame but Gintama is doing it effortlessly. Gintama is masterclass.

Everything related to the Shogun has been animated. The only oddity for those skipped chapters are some Shinsegumi appearances, since the status quo changes from this arc won't be there.

I love how they had the new Shogun inherit the running gag of getting embarrassed whenever he appears, but now you're actually glad he's getting fucked over.

yaaaas, it's so damn satisfying. Keep this getting his shit knocked out a running gag sorachi.

Man, I have no idea how this arc is gonna end and how daily life will be for yorozuya after this arc. With Gintoki smacking the shit outta the shitgun I wonder if he'll even be able to walk the streets of Kabuki normally. Well Katsura is supposed to be a most wanted criminal but we see him doing whatever the fuck he wants so it probably won't matter much. Speaking of Zura, I'm glad he's in this arc, we need more serious arc Zura action.

Seeing people react to serious Gintama, anyone would think you haven't seen Gintama before, while this is indeed the "Shit gets real" arc, the show and Manga have always been capable of turning an extremely dumb moment into an incredibly tragic and heart wrenching one at the drop of a hat and do it well.

One thing about this arc
Shoyo has been a bit of a mystery for the longest time, you always kind of wondered what kind of individual could raise someone like Gintoki and I was not disappointed.

Love Gin's new look honestly he looked like a badass. Sad to see Yoroyoza closed for now but none of these people will be able to return to their homes after going against the country. The dream team is real with the shinshengumi teaming up with Katsura's gang of rebels. Next week looks like a the prison break will take place so I'm excited.

I'm glad there was a healthy amount of humor here, I just KNEW Katsura was gonna end up knocking himself out with that pill on accident.

Yeah, this arc until know it's already better if only for the mix of seriousness and comedy.

Plus, having Runaway Kotaro automatically makes it more awesome.
