Jesus man alive, I gotta quit. If I can just make it a week I can stop for good. That delicious liquid drink. So sweet, so fizzy.

Worth giving up for your teeths sake. But all those people who say Coke 'n sugar are bad for your skin yadda yadda are talking bollocks. I lived on filtered water for a year, no pepsi, no lemonade, orange - didn't make a damn bit of difference to well being apart from the teeth.

I've been basically soda free for a month. I splipped up twice during the month. One time drank a 12 ounce Mt. Dew, the other time a half a bottle of sprite.

You don't need to cut it out altogether just cut back. I dropped soda last year for lent and man I felt great after. I was just replacing it with Nestea, or Minute Maid lemonade/pink lemonade. Something sweet to drink but not as damaging as the carbonated poison. Since then I haven't been too horrible, but I will indulge from time to time.

Try drinking water with pizza, it just doesn't work. You need beer or pop.

Milk works reasonably well.

edit: I stopped drinking soda Saturday night. Already went through round one of the awful headaches.

soda is cheap, safeway brand is what I buy right now. I just need to stop. I drink too many a day, its insane.

Well soda bloats you, a few weeks off and you should notice it.

I am soda free for 1 month now also.

I was drinking 2 liters of Mountain Dew a day. That is almost 1400 calories of cola. Empty sugar/salt water.

I have only made it because I have a substitute with Crystal Light. It has made the transition easier. The first 4-5 days sucked with all the headaches and grogginess, but i think my penis has grown two inches since I have quit
I am a liar
.

Good luck!

Well its going to be hard mostly cause when I wake up in the morning my blood sugar is on the WAYYYYY low end of normal, so soda usually is a quick pick me up. Ill figure something else out.

For years, I have been drinking a 32oz. Coke or Pepsi at lunch and refill it if possible. I never drank Coke for dinner and only had 2-3 Cokes on the weekends.

Now that I am 34 years old and chasing our first child around... I get very little exercise...

So now that I am up to 200lbs. in a 5'11" frame... it was time to change the diet a little bit. I don't look fat, but I feel it... just soft where there used to be muscle.

Anyways, I quit drinking Coke during the week for lunch for over 2 months. The headaches were there for a few days... and I would only have one or two Cokes on the weekend.

I lost a fews pounds and now only have one or two Cokes during the week... I go with the 16oz. cup and hardly refill...

Plus, I start 3 hours of basketball on Thursday night... should drop the pounds now!

You're drinking generic soda, and you can't bring yourself to quit?

That's like saying, "Man, I just can't stop craving that government cheese!" :lol

Like someone else said, don't stop completely. Just cut back. Personally, I only drink soda when I'm eating out. At home, it's all water and flavored water.

I've cut soda out of my lunch completely (except the odd trip to a fast food place on a weekend trip to the mall), and yeah, in the beginning it's very rough. The headaches and general malaise ARE there. But now, I think it's mostly over. I still have some soda with dinner, but that's usually my first and last serving of the day.

I was having monster headaches this weekend. I am pretty sure it was due to the lack of my usual morning cup of coffee. Caffeine withdrawl sucks. :(

Edit: What the fuck is up with my syntax today.

So that's what those headaches were. Never realised.

I only have soda, or more specifically Coke when I'm at a restaurant or fast food place. Whereas I'd used to have at least 2 cans a day at home.

Mainly drink water and juice. Been clean for a few months now.

I got sick recently and had to drink lots of water, so my headaches were hitting me when i was already sick. Which worked out well. I've been drinking VitaminWater a lot, as well as 32 ounces of water too. I've had a random soda here and there, but not like before where I was drinking 2 or 3 soda's a day. I've noticed a change in my sleep, as well as my complexion.

People told me to drink juice, but it is pretty much just as bad as soda in terms of calories.

At my old work they had a kitchen with all the soda you could drink for free. I gained 20 lbs in my first 18 months working there. It sucked. Now I'm having to work all that off.

This I have noticed. When I was drinking 3 cans a day I couldn't cut my weight down past 255, now I stick to water and juice (albeit sugary juice) and I'm down to 245 regularly

Haven't had a soda in 10 months.

Water or gatorade or juice, even if its not 100% real juice.

Who cares if water has bacteria and crap in it? That's what filters are for and even if that doesn't remove everything it still *hydrates* you, which is what you need!

Edit: Also, juice has nutrients in it (varies depending on what kind, of course) and all-fruit juice has the good sugars. Calories aren't really a problem if you can burn them off, but even then, you're still getting good stuff in your body that soda can't provide.

As mentioned in a previous thread, I've been soda free for almost 5 years now, and I used to drink a whole 2 litter bottle a day. So how did I survive the first week?

I had food poisoning, so I could take in anything, so any withdrawl symptoms went by unnoticed.

So MAF, go eat some bad eggs!

That's better. ( and no caffeine) Kidneys, fail me not!

(usually, I drink cold brew tea.)

Decaffinated iced tea is a fine substitute for soda any time you'd drink it. Wine also sometimes works with dinner, but if going that way I'd prefer scotch which is probably bad for you. But seriously, iced tea is your friend in this new quest, it's one of the few drinks that have the refreshing "crispness" similar to carbonation that goes with food so well.

Soda is so horrible for you. Its harm is being underrated in this thread. :)

The sooner you get off them, the more years you will add to your life.

I haven't had a soda in over 4 years. I just quit one day. That stuff is horrible for your teeth as well. Start drinking a shit-ton of water.

One day I just kinda quit, too. The headaches were massive for about two days, and then, I was fine. Now, the carbonation in sodas/colas/pops/Cokes tastes like ass. It makes my teeth feel weird, like they're all wearing sweaters.

That's weird, I'm giving up soda for water today too. I never realized that- aside from the milk in my cereal- literally all I drink is Diet Pepsi.

Funny you should say that, because I heard Nestea and all of those bottled teas cause more tooth decay than your average soda. I can't remember where I read that though. I love Nestea, brisk and the like, I used to be addicted to them, but I no longer induldge.

Soda is fucking nasty; it's liquid sugar. You don't realize it when you've been drinking it for a while, because you're pretty much addicted. But try drinking the stuff after you've been off it for a couple years; it nearly makes me sick if I just taste it these days, ditto for milk.

I've been drinking, on average, 1 can of soda a day for the past few years and there's nothing soda with me.

Yea... I really gotta quit this shit too...

I'm at the piint though were I prefer diet over the regular.. It's just so hard for me to give up this bubbly goodness.

Everything can kill you. Drink pop until you keel over from sugar shock
I wonder who dies first: the guy who drinks nothing but water, or the guy who drinks nothing but pop? Yeah, I said pop.....fuck off.

I will clarify that I while I recommended iced tea, I hate these canned tea things.

I've only been drinking water, tea and fruit juices for over a year now(obviously, this doesn't count beer and booze, and the very occassional Jack n' coke). I feel so much better, too. Keep at it, gets easy after about two weeks.
