However, it wouldnt make sense to visit Asgard or Vanaheim as those are the Gods realms and Kratos would then literally enter the Homebase of countless Boss Level enemies. As for Svartalfheim: you’d only meet these insect-winged Elves you fight regularly anyway.
Game wasn’t a 10 for me at most time, but now there’s only on trophy left (Odin ravens) and the content and the story is awesome, mad props for the story the end is awesome and I’m already ready to talk about next GOW.
Also during the game we now that every pantheon is on a different “land” and a panel shows Greek, Egyptian, Nord and Celtic, I hope Gow continues till they end all of those
You have to read those maps to not have a marker is the idea, by the drawing and what is written you can find them very easily if you are going everywhere possible in the game, the rewards are good mind you
Holy heck guys! The dragon fight was mind blowing. Looked like really good CG to me. I'm blown away!
I actually just beat that part where I had to free a dragon. Took me just under an hour. I think this game just jumped from great to GOTY for me after that sequence. Nothing in this gender comes close. Nothing!
So i'm ready to eat crow about being wary of all the great reviews. I put the game in my PS4 on Friday night and am only stopping now because of work. Holy shit what a ride so far, and I don't even think I'm near the end yet. The game feels great to play (my primary worry going in to it) and the combos are even better than the old GoW games, once you unlock stances and different combat moves. Story's been enjoyable, graphics are insane, and I don't even hate BOY. I haven't beaten the game yet, but if I were giving ratings, I'd give it 10/10, which is super fucking rare for me.
Also:
When you get the Blades of Chaos back, I was literally giddy like a school kid. Then they throw a ton of those little weak monsters at you so you can just go ham on them. Probably the highlight of the game for me so far. Keep in mind that I had gone into the game totally blind so I hadn't been spoiled about this yet. It amazed me how familiar the combos felt, despite being a totally different battle system and perspective.

As soon as freya said that his axe wouldnt work in hel i was like yes, then kratos responded that he had another weapon...I was like Yes...then he said he had to go pick it up cause he left it home...i was like YES...then the boat...athena...the house...then the reveal of the blades...god damn, this game! I WAS LIKE YES!
Alright, I can’t just write a couple sentences about this game so I put together my thoughts so far. I can't say how long I've played (please add a playtime counter somewhere, even if its only on the save file) but story wise I am about to get the
Magic Chisel
I liked the previous God of War titles but I am not a hack and slash fan as much as a fan of the universe. I got bored of the formula after GoW2 and felt that they needed to mix up the combat a bit more and my love for the series waned.
Due to all this I was cautiously optimistic about this release. Sony first party titles are the premier single player experience in my opinion and it is why I went PS4 for my first console this gen. I have loved quite a few of the first party games this gen but at this point I can easily say that this game blows all the rest away. Last gen my GOTG was TLoU and this game is right up there.
I am 40 years old and the closest I can compare this game to are the epic fantasy movies I watched as a child. It has just the right amount of levity and it is also a coming of age story for both Kratos and Atreus which is so beautiful. The scale is as epic as ever and the diversity of environments so far has been great.
I am so glad that they decided to reboot this series as an action/adventure RPG. While adding all of these new elements it still feels like God of War. From Spartan Rage to the executions of stunned enemies, it gives you the same sense of power that I felt in the original series.
There are a couple of nit picks that I have but these are minor to me and don't detract from the overall quality of the game but rather briefly broke the immersion for me. For example Kratos has the strength of a god but struggles carrying a dying boar. There are a few times where Kratos is made to struggle with tasks that he should have no problem completing.
At times the camera can be difficult to manage but the incoming indicators are pretty helpful. I wish that instead of red and fuschia they had chosen a color that was not so close to red for the incoming indicator. In the heat of combat I can only steal quick glances at those things and it can be difficult to tell them apart at a glance.
I have seen plenty of complaints about the pacing but one thing that seems to be core to Sony's single player philosophy is the idea of spending more time in game and less on loading screens. They do a great job building loading screens into the action and it is put to use in great effect here. I know that in most of the slower times the game is likely loading up the next areas and in that regard I feel the pacing is amazing.
During these slower parts is when we get to know more about Kratos and Atreus' relationship. As a father of 3 kids I am a sucker for games that incorporate Dad Mode. I hate escort missions in games but in TLoU and GoW they give you a companion that helps you instead of hindering you. Atreus feels like an evolution of this concept and being able to upgrade his skills as he grows and learns is fantastic. The subtle ways in which Kratos acknowledges this growth is great!
This game also excels in technical achievement. I recently upgraded from a launch PS4 to a PS4 Pro and play on a 55" standard HD TV. In my opinion this might be the most beautiful game ever made. The variety of environments are absolutely stunning and at times the game can look almost photo-realistic. The detail of Kratos is jawdropping, from the crow's feet in the corners of his eyes to the various gear he equips throughout the journey, all are very natural and lifelike.
I have played in both Resolution and Performance mode and am torn. Resolution mode looks less jittery in comparison to Performance mode but performance mode feels best for the most part. This game is the best looking game I have ever played regardless of mode so I would pick whichever better suits your tastes.
I think I am right around ⅓ of the way through the main story and this game just keeps getting bigger and better. I can’t wait to dive back into this world next chance I get!
I've noticed a trend where first impressions of the game on GAF anyway, were underwhelming. I'm now seeing nothing but praise due to the fact that people are further in. I get the sense that the intro is very strong and then it sorta falls off a bit for the next four hours. This is the case for me anyway. I'm about 5-6 hours in and I'm beginning to see the brilliance in the game. Maybe it's the setting but the game feels majestic to me, and I'm absolutely enamored by this world. Especially when compared to previous entries. The only problem now is, how do they top this.
Granted I was exaggerating for effect, but third-person melee combat is a wide net to cast.
I wouldn't group, say, musou games in with souls just the same as I wouldn't group character action games with souls. They're different enough as subgenres to warrant a distinction.
Trying to avoid any spoilers, but might be getting frustrated with some of the puzzles.
Is there any metroidvania to this? Example when you have to use your axe to knock out 3 pods in a row to open a gate, do you need anything special to do that or am I just not seeing the angle?
Please PM me, seriously not trying to read anything about the game.
I love this game, but I think that the combat camera is the worst part of it.
Most of the time that you take damage, it’s actually the camera’s fault, and not the enemy or yourself. This gets pretty evident at the Valkyries fights, which are pretty good at a moveset point of view, but it turns into cheap fights with this horrible camera.
Even Dark Souls and AC Origins expand their cameras into a more tactical view during combat, I don’t understand why did they make GoW’s so close to Kratos...
Also, if they wanted to keep this camera, they should at least give us a better option than those green orbs which doesn’t even help at all, you end up may end up getting even more damage while trying to cure.

I'm around your age, and I feel the same way. There are even some specific nods to movies I grew up watching religiously as a kid. I mean, the initial interaction with the
World Serpent
was definitely reminiscent of Morla, the Ancient One from A Neverending Story, and even how both look imposing but are allies.

I haven't encounter Valkyries yet because I just reached my first realm(Yes, my progress is very slow). So once I fought one maybe would feel the same way as you do but so far I didn't have issue with camera and most my death (and I died a lot) mostly is my own fault.

Claiming it sucks because it doesn't make it as easy as other games is pretty lame. It's close to kratos and gives you his perspective as much as possible. The Spidey sense ring around his body is more than enough to allow you to avoid attacks from behind
Oh yeah, you definitely want to punch the camera during these. Are you talking about the one that summons? I fought that one as my second and just quit after 1 try, not trying gain until I'm over equipped. Fuck that one.

I barely take off camera hits at all. Just pay attention to the arrows and roll when you see red. The system works extremely well I find.
EDIT: Never mind. You're further then I am so if you say you're having issues with the camera then you're word is better then mine. Have not fought a Valkyrie yet.
It seems lots of people are jumping into higher difficulties and having a rough time. I suppose I'm a poor excuse for a gamer, but I'm not looking for any sort of absurd challenge in a game like this. I want to play it like an adventure in a book or a movie, and only have to replay fights a minimal amount of times. It's more about the cohesive experience for me. I'm about halfway through now, and on Normal difficult, I've only died a handful of times. I suppose that might change, but so far, it's really helping that whole cinematic feel that the game is really pushing.

I'm guessing you're trying to get in the hive. You can always take the pods out. Some tips
1. Look at the branch they're on. Take out pods on the same branch in one strike to cut the branch back
2. Charge your axe throw
3. Gravity affects the dip - a little angle alteration will get you the final one usually
4. Some you need to get a different angle from
5. You always get them on the throw forward. Not on the recall if the axe so don't waste time with that.
I'm nearing the end. Game is legendary. I don't think I can go back to the old GOW games after this. It'll be interesting to see how TLOU2and Spiderman top this..
Honestly YES!!! knowing Kratos's past makes this GOW that much more enjoyable and besides as much as I LOVE this GOW the pervious games still damn fun and have plenty of epic moments.

Same. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I find myself looking for a great experience more than a challenge.
I think normal hits the sweet spot for me. Might also have to do with the fact that I've played the game with immersive HUD from start to finish, so it already was kinda challenging as I didn't always know how much health I had left or when I encountered OP enemies.
(immersive HUD is the way to go, btw. game is amazing that way)
I'd say it's definitely ahead of the old GoW games in every way, except for being revolutionary for the time. GoW1 was a big hit during it's time for doing a lot of new things. This GoW is a polished soup of Darksiders, tomb raider, and uncharted . Though I liked how those games did certain things better. People are prasing the combat (rightfully so), but I doubt any studios are going to draw from it in the same way DMC or ninja gaiden set the bar for what third person action games could be.

Nope. I passed that after. It's a side puzzle I found before that.
Oh, and there are chests that can only be unlocked by cutting through those pods by pulling your axe back. Sometimes even having to move to a different place to do so.
