God of War Ragnarok is the UK's second biggest boxed game launch of the year, behind FIFA 23.

Digital are at least 50% now at least
TLOU2 came out during lockdowns and Covid...a 50% digital ratio wouldn't be out of the ordinary 2 years ago as well. The only way to know that is by checking how much it sold digitally on week one back then but i can't find that data.

It's a petty we don't get digital numbers too at the same time. Great numbers in recession times and 80 euros price.

PS5 games are going to have legs. PS4 owners are saying they aren't going to buy PS4 versions of games and would just wait and experience the games on PS5.

PS5 is stacked with games with Demon's Souls, Returnal, Rift Apart, Sackboy, Astrobot, Horizon, GT7, Spider-Man MM, TLOU P1, and now God of War. Spider-Man 2 is going to put PS5 over the top in 2023.

I can't recall when gaming was last this lopsided and we still don't know the slate for the rest of Sony's 2023 games.

Actually...not really

These were 1st week sales for the best selling 1st party games from Sony in the UK:

194k - FRI - TLOU Part II
192k - TUE - Uncharted 4
190k - FRI - Spider-Man
Around 150k - TUE - God of War Ragnarok
114k - WED - Horizon Zero Dawn
96k - FRI - God of War
80k - WED - Uncharted TLL
75k - FRI - Ghost of Tsushima
74k - WED - GT Sport
70k - FRI - Days Gone

Ragnarok isn't even Top 3. You have 2 Naughty Dog franchises and Spider-Man ahead of it. It will depend on its digital sales but it still needs almost 50k to beat TLOU2 physicals advantage. That said, God of War was never huge in the UK when compcared to most other coutries, including USA so...it may have beat TLOU2 worldwide, who knows for now...
Also these are reporting weeks right so TLOU part 2 had less days to rack up that 194k

Sony is killing it right now. The amount of quality games they've released the past years is unprecedented.

I think they've missed a beat especially around cross-gen, but still definitely on top of the industry.

Their new challenge is expansion and diversification of their portfolio. Both very difficult things to do.

Easily in the top 2 console launch of all time. PS5's only competition is the PS2 launch.

If Sony can ship 30 million in fiscal 2023, they'll begin to put ps5 on the trajectory of the ps2, which is crazy given the competition by Xbox, PC, and even Switch.

I think they're going to have to really manage the price in an intelligent way. You want a very cheap version of the PS5 out there but you can also get margin on a PS5 Pro.

Their software sales are going to reach heights they never have before if they can hit this trajectory because they never had this amount of talent and scope on PS2 where they could really only rely on a handful of studios.

All those posts about how Sony will have to release their games day one on their sunscription services by the end of this generation are looking dumber and dumber. If this release showed us something is that the public is not only here to pay full priced titles, it's actually here for the price increase games have suffered from Sony.

Its a good thing they expanded ps plus with extra, cause thats a shit load of games to have to go through if you’re just getting a ps5 this christmas

Yep and many games have proven that sometimes it's worth paying that price. And if not sales are always around the corner for those interested in owning a copy.

I wonder if this is to do with the game not having multiplayer and can be traded at value once completed

physical copy is the smart choice but im pretty sure digital is the majority share for the game. sony first party has a very high digital ratio. highest it went was 80%

No
I mean people buying boxed games to be able to trade them as soon as they completed them
That's the case with alot of games. Just because you can trade them in doesn't mean it will sell well.....

It has more to do with it being a long-awaited sequel to a very successful game in a long-running popular franchise. No spinning or salt necessary to explain it.

It is a bit of silly to suggest that GOW:R is only selling well because it can be traded in. It’s more likely selling well because it is a fantastic game that many gamers have been looking forward to.

I didn’t suggest it was only selling well because it isn’t a good game, the high number of boxes games could be because after completed it’s limited replay ability because of no multiplayer.

I am sure it’s an excellent game of coarse

Speaking for myself, I bought physical purely because I like to have a physical collection of great games. I have absolutely no intention of trading it. Not to mention it was a few quid cheaper than digital.

I regret buying ER digitally tbh.

Everybody is quick to pounce when they don’t agree with something. Nothing negative meant about the game at all

Just with physical sales being so high it bucks the recent trend of digital sales and there must be a reason, maybe it’s like you said people like to look at in on the shelves

It was a rather ridiculous thing to say and that's why people are responding to your post.

Physical sales aren't high just for single player games, but they're high for multiplayer games too. To even suggest that people use it just to resell, then the market would be flooded with millions of used copies for sale, but that doesn't happen at all.

People are also suspicious that you would say this NOW after all these years.
